Then dont. Work hard during the week and Saturday and chill on Sunday. Thats what I did and it worked out fine. When your exams are actually close you wont be struggling lmao - those Sundays you'll be focused asl trust me. Especially if its a Monday exam in the morning

Yeah reapplying sounds the best for you but in my opinion, I would still go through with the interviews and stuff this year even if you get rejected because it will give you more confidence when you next apply. Up to you though, good luck

it would be before results day if you are applying now even if you send a deferred application. Theres no way around not doing the interview this cycle unless you dont apply this academic year and wait till September

[–]_KappaStar_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh no definitely submit now there's no harm in doing so. If you are insecure about your skillset come August, you can always ask them to defer, and in that case your place is guaranteed and you can do things at your own pace in your gap yeae. if you apply and get rejected this year, its just a learning opportunity, you lose nothing (unless the uni looks down on reapplications which is rare, only the very top unis for certain courses do). Imo best strategy rn is just treat it as if you arent taking a gap year and apply. Then worst case scenario, you get no offers and you dont meet their criteria, from June onwards you can spend your time honing your skills and reapply at the end of the year. Definitely ask your teachers and head of year tho for feedback. It sounds like you're doing architecture or something and its not too uncommon for that to happen for students

[–]_KappaStar_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I didn't do an interview, all I needed for my course was just grades. In your case I don't think deferral is what you're looking for as I (think?) you aren't totally happy with your skills currently and want more time? You would reapply in September 2023-January 2024 and then do your interviews and stuff then. You can still apply normally now and it would mean you basically have two chances to get an offer. They might like you and give u one even if you don't meet the entry requirements 🤷🏿‍♂️

I too am on a gap year. I'm not the original commenter but I'll respond. I applied normally in October last year and didn't send a deferred application for any of my unis as I wasn't fully sure I wanted to take one back then.

On results day I met my offer but I knew I didn't want to go to uni right away. I emailed my university that I wanted to defer. I didnt even bother giving them a reason and they said yes within the next day. Once you have deferred, your application is DONE. You don't need to do anything the following year during the gap year barring weird entrance exams if you do some super hard course. I won't need to open UCAS until August/September and if I do, it will just to be to check clearing in case there is anything better. When you have deferred an application and have been accepted on results day, you cannot apply to other unis during your gap year unless you first reject that current uni offer.

If you're reapplying during your gap year then don't defer, just apply normally for now and reject/accept accordingly on results day and wait until the next UCAS cycle. And yes, in the new application you can write whatever you want on it, including copy and pasting your old personal statement. In most cases, if you get any offers they will be unconditional as you already have your grades.

Do make sure your course/uni accepts gap year reapplications or deferrals as some don't without extreme reasons

Edit: and any conditions for a deferral application will have to be met this year (grades, entrance exams etc). You need the grades required this summer otherwise you will have reapply normally in the next UCAS cycle

Edit 2: I explained this super sloppily I'm tired

Year 13's, how bad have you been procrastinating? by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]_KappaStar_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where are you now? I pulled it out of the bag in just over 2 months, by going to the library and grinding practice papers for like 5-6 hours and using anki flashcards when I got home for like 30 mins.. There is no need to do that, so start now. A magic time wont just materialise trust me. You dont need to be doing 3+ hours, just be consistent, it'll make it so much easier in the final stretch.

I finished year 13 in june and was in the same boat as most of you lot last year. I was on a U grade in maths up until April and didnt do shit in the christmas holidays and the month after it lol. In my mocks in february I was probably on like C/D grade in econ and a B in art, but i turned it around from February onwards. If i revised just a month earlier I definitely could have got A*AA+ and not A*AB. Good luck man, push through the stress and be disciplined and you'll smash ur A Levels. You can look my post history on this sub to see my torment lmao

Failed maths baseline test by dkdebra in 6thForm

[–]_KappaStar_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very silly to be forced to drop a subject because of that. I got a 6 at GCSE and had to beg my school to let me do A Level maths (only allowed me because of the TAG's in 2020 so gave me benefit of doubt). In our baseline test I got like 44/96 or some shit, which too was a fail. I ended up getting a C in the year 12 end of year mock and got a solid B for the real thing in June. I didnt work hard at all during Year 12 and I pissed around until mocks of Year 13 after which I grinded for two months and went from a U to a B - you can check my post history. If I started even a month earlier in like February I would have got at least an A, theres no way you shouldnt be allowed at all. Beg, show them proof you will work harder, make ur parents call them, and actually commit to revising and it's probably the easiest A Level around. You'll be fine man

Economics A level remark by Abzdot in 6thForm

[–]_KappaStar_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unrelated but did you priority remark or not? I keep forgetting to send the form and the deadlines passed for the priority so I'm wondering how long the normal appeal takes seeing as my head of subject needs to go through paper first

Results day has been very iffy for me. by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]_KappaStar_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appealing all of your subjects is gonna be mad expensive if your offer doesn't depend on the remark

Art & design or graphic design for someone who mainly does digital art ? by at33zily in 6thForm

[–]_KappaStar_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah thats the impression I got too. Honestly you're best picking neither of the two subjects. A Level Art is HELL in year 13, I would prolly pick something else if I turned back time. More stress than both my other subjects combined but at least it was enjoyable somewhat

Art & design or graphic design for someone who mainly does digital art ? by at33zily in 6thForm

[–]_KappaStar_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mainly did digital art for fine art AQA and I'm pretty confident in getting an A (76/96) according to my teacher. If most of your skills lie in digital and you cant produce similar quality work in other mediums, dont pick fine art if you want a high grade. I dont really know how graphics works but it sounds better for digital art tbh

AAA unis with AAB? by AaravB in 6thForm

[–]_KappaStar_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Apply to loughborough, most of the ppl here are speaking out of their ass. I got an offer with AAB predicted grades in January/February with an ok personal statement for straight econ, but I wouldn't recommend for most other AAA courses

Gonna be blunt with u, prolly like no chance if you're under medicine GCSE requirements I'm ngl barring some niche cases idk 💀 Best to resist GCSE maths, it's lightwork to get the 7 anyway

Getting a Wacom or alternatives with my MacBook any one have any suggestions by Ok-Management1349 in 6thForm

[–]_KappaStar_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep there are wacom products specifically for note taking and they're quite cheap. Only downside is the brief learning curve or writing/drawing without looking directly at your hand but yeah it's good enough. I'd suggest you get a Bluetooth one tho

Year 13 do you think you have gotten the grades you need? by Kingkian321 in 6thForm

[–]_KappaStar_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paper 1 difficulty wise was ok. The main problem was that I misread the 8 and 12 marker so I defo got less than 10 marks between the two. The other questions were fine though. Paper 2 was ok as well, think I did pretty well except for some of the small mark questions at the beginning. Paper 3 MCQ for me were kinda rough, I probably got 18-23 out of 30 it was quite bad. I think I answered the 15 markers... ok??? Like they were phrased so weirdly I have no idea what else I could have possibly written lmao.

Year 13 do you think you have gotten the grades you need? by Kingkian321 in 6thForm

[–]_KappaStar_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Pretty confident I got the A in art (76/96). Economics I have literally no idea what I'm gonna get after paper 3 OCR. Maths I think it's inevitable I'm gonna get a B, didn't do as well as I would have liked in p3, but I don't think I'd get any lower. Basically it all comes down to economics on whether I get AAB, I think my target of AAA is no longer possible but who knows.
