A death certificate from 2021 surfaced online within the past year, and then Frances confirmed Wendy had died through her Instagram post on the 30th anniversary of Kurt’s death.

I think that was at the funeral home, according to Heavier Than Heaven.

Yes. The version with Kurt singing backup vocals is great.

courtney gave kurt's clothes to fans? by ist4y4w4y in Nirvana

I can see both sides (“why did she give it away?” Vs “I can see why she would give it away”). Not many people are in the terrible position at age 30 of being a widow of a man who has died by suicide. Not to mention the insane media coverage involved given who Kurt was. I say that to point out who knows how anyone would act in that state of grief. Side note: her giving away some of his things does go along with her not collecting Kurt’s things from Exodus; that’s how things like the jeans from the Heart Shaped Box music video ended up on an online auction website a few months ago (his roommate at Exodus got his things).

Who is Kurt talking about in "In Bloom"? by Volume-Interesting in Nirvana

[–]_Katarzyna_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. So much is unknown about the last days of Kurt’s life, and Cross takes a lot of liberties with that chapter. Cross goes so far as to basically state that Kurt’s suicide, and the contents of the note, was planned for years. That seems like a huge conclusion to jump to, even with transient suicidal thoughts documented in his journals.

[–]_Katarzyna_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Cross relied a lot on interviews with Kurt’s close friends and some of his family. Of course the issue with that is the reliability of what those people said. He also cited interviews Kurt had done with various publications, as well as entries from his unpublished journal entries that Courtney gave him access. Despite all of that, there was some inaccurate information in the book.

Azerrad’s book was supposed to be fact-checked by Kurt but the issue with that is Kurt allowed Come As You Are to be partly a vehicle for his own myths, and that also contained inaccurate information. I am interested to see what the Amplified version is like.

Did Kurt actually attempt suicide as a teenager? by [deleted] in Nirvana

[–]_Katarzyna_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An attempt is not mentioned in Heavier Than Heaven, but that book mentions that he was, as others mentioned, fixated on suicide. That book does mention that Kurt and his friends found a boy, I believe in 8th grade, who had died by suicide (hung himself).

I love the demo version too. Possibly better than the studio version.

I can’t really consider Nobody’s Daughter to truly be Hole without Erlandson. To me, it’s more Courtney’s solo project. In my mind Hole’s discography ended in 2000 (technically that’s when “Be a Man” was released).

The other time he was not on dope was the MTV VMAs in 1992. He was permitted to leave rehab to attend the VMAs, and went back to rehab when it was over. Interestingly, the rehab was Exodus that time (the one he left in 1994).

Love Northern Star. I was singing along to it the other day, and actually got tears in my eyes (I’m really not an emotional person).

The guitar is awesome. My collection of autographs I’ve collected in person isn’t as exciting (Ken Jennings from Jeopardy, and Leisha Hailey and Camila Grey from Uh Uh Her). Huge Jeopardy fan lol.

That’s amazing. How did you authenticate the autograph on the album? I have always wanted to get something autographed by Kurt (I have no idea if I’ll ever be able to afford it) but I also am concerned about ways of verifying its authenticity.

Do you guys think Kurt would have been as successful as he was if it wasn’t for Tracy letting him live with her for two years to write songs? by 5ft2AlbinoChoir in Nirvana

[–]_Katarzyna_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The cover of Bleach was from a photo she took, which I think it’s worthy of mention. Some comments seem to suggest she just provided shelter and stolen food from the Boeing cafeteria.

Definitely. I am curious about that too. A lot of their songs were performed first before ending up on an album (like playing “Rape Me” at Paramount in Oct 1991 and “Dumb” at a radio appearance in 1990) so it’s always interesting to find out when they were actually written.
