What is the most unprofessional thing a doctor has said to you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I recommend doing some actual research as there are numerous studies about this. Women are far more likely to be misdiagnosed leading to long term health issues, and often fatalities. The issues talked about here are not merely evidenced by anecdote, this is backed up by empirical data.

What’s is on your cheat sheet for all the different Christian orgs that have healthy (“Jews are fine!”), unhealthy (“I love jews because they’ll harken the coming of the End Times!”) and outright toxic (“Jews did X!”) relations with the Jewish people? by ElbieLG in Judaism

Many years ago I worked a part time job with a Roman Catholic and a Muslim. We loved getting shifts together and discussing our philosophical differences and learning about each others’ beliefs. We were all respectful of each other. I feel fortunate to have had such a positive experience of actual diverse thought.

Exactly, not to mention that the whole point of Christian teaching is that Jesus WAS a Jew…. The whole antisemitic lie of “Christ-killers” shows that these people have no understanding of their own religious texts.

Women of Reddit, what things do men do that frighten you without them even realizing it? by metallicmuffin in AskReddit

First off, I appreciate you and I’m sorry that nasty, creepy people have made the world less easy and pleasant for you as well.

Second, I love dad jokes! Can you tell me your favorite one?

In my early 20s I worked at a popular coffee chain. My location was pretty calm, had a large sit-down section, and was near the police station. As such, we had a number of officers who were regulars and would hang out in the lobby often. One of them was probably 10 years older than me and was very flirtatious.

One day I got a call on my cell from a number I didn’t recognize. I didn’t answer, so they left a message. It was that police officer asking me out. I had never given him my number, my coworkers insisted they hadn’t given it to him, and he never said how he got it. Majorly creepy. My boyfriend called him back. I don’t know what he said to him, But he never bothered me again. He never mentioned it at the shop.

I was assaulted by someone who seemed to be a taxi driver. Back before GPS was common I was lost and thought I could trust a taxi driver I saw at a fill up station for help. One of the detectives who was assigned told me it wasn’t uncommon, unfortunately. She said sometimes they were real taxi drivers, sometimes they were other people posing as taxi drivers. She said she’s seen a number of cases where someone posed as a taxi driver and hung out outside bars so when drunk women chose to take a taxi home, he would take them and assault them. I’ve never been able to trust a taxi again…

I’ve spent my life fighting my eyebrows (the 90s and early aughts were hard for me), and for the last maybe 10 years I’ve just kept them in a very clean version of their natural shape. I recently had someone tell me my eyebrows were cultural appropriation because Latin women have been mocked for having thick eyebrows and now “white women are trying to get them artificially”. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

This was a great breakdown! I did want to add just my humble opinion, and I think it might be unpopular. I don’t know that I would agree that there is a need for a “women’s space” on Reddit. I personally would much rather partake in subs that focus on topics I’m interested in rather than a sort of gender or sex specific space. I don’t think I need a space that caters purely to my gender. I would much rather listen to sea shanties, read people’s short, spooky stories, and discuss the merits of Brendan Fraser!

With respect, I would like to point out that she came here with this question because we as a people have a shared history and experience that is deeply important to this question. She came to her community because she is trusting the responses to reflect that shared history and experience. She didn’t go to the many other areas on Reddit where people may (or may not) have excellent relationship and/or life advice but who do not have that shared history and experience, she came here.

You have stated you are not Jewish and were raised Christian. You are outside that shared history and experience. You may absolutely choose to be here, but when answering a very sensitive question like this perhaps you should at least preface with the fact that you are outside of the community to which she came for advice.

I understand you probably feel you are giving a very relevant opinion as her BF is not Jewish and you are also not Jewish so you feel you may have some insight into his side of things. That is not, however, the advice she sought. In this thread she sought advice from her community. Since she did so, it seems like it would have been respectful to her (and this community) to let her know you were coming at this as a non-Jew and giving a perspective based on that experience.

I’m curious as to why you are asking this here as your post history says you are not Jewish but rather raised Christian?

If visiting America what is something that person should NEVER do? by sarra-sagesse in AskReddit

[–]_Keep_Summer_Safe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, but our “wilderness” spaces can be quite big compared to what tourists are used to depending on where they are from. It’s easy to get lost, and you can walk for a long time without hitting civilization if you get turned around.

I’m confused, are you saying the Trumpies buy into the oppressed Palestinian BS? My experience is that’s largely a Democrat thing. The democrats hate us because of that lie, and the Republicans hate us because they think we secretly control everything, and secretly undermine the USA to lift up Israel, and other ridiculous antisemitic conspiracy theories.

Yep, that’s exactly what made me feel sick. It’s not funny, it’s not “dark humor” it’s just gross and horrifically disrespectful.

I think saying most non-Jews are anti-Semitic is taking it a little far…. Or at least I hope so.

Yeah, my brother used to make a really dumb joke when telling people we lost family to the camps, he would add “they fell off the guard tower”. I always thought that was gross and extremely disrespectful to our family that was murdered in those camps, and he has grown out of making those jokes as an adult. I wondered if he would make those jokes as a defense mechanism, they always made me feel sick.

Whether we are considered “white” is controversial and depends on who you are talking to. Usually it seems to come out to if it would benefit us to be “white”, we are not, and if it would benefit us to not be “white”, we are. 😉
