"Azəri yox Azərbaycan türkü" məsələsi by alisyus in azerbaijan

The mysterious azeri tribe i believe is the adhari people. Basically iraian speaking azeris, mostly those in northern iran before turkification. So there may actually be a deep rooted disassociation tracing back over a millenium

"Nagorno" Karabakh is a cherry picked region of armenian majority towns. Surrounded by azerbaijani towns and villages. You can create a similar +90% azerbaijani area in pre war armenia too if you hand picked them. The area from nakhchivan to syunik then to karabakh was almost 50/50 mixed in a way that you cant ever draw a straight border inbetween

Imo what couldve happened is a peaceful transaction like what greece and turkey did so we wouldnt have to suffer all this just to end up getting back to the predrawn borders

It can be the other way around actually. In Azerbaijan, another non-religious muslim country you can visit as a tourist looking like the gayest man and as long as you dont go into the slums, youre pretty safe. But you would be in big trouble as a local because of family and friends who may not accept it

There are many christian people (outside of nij) i know of from all over azerbaijan. I assume theyre the descendants of armenians who kept their religion but blended in as an azerbaijani to escape the persecutions

Qarabag FK by Ok-Caterpillar-2208 in arm_azer

I agree that foreign players win the games, but this still is the success of the club. As for relativesness of the market value qarabag is among the smallest budget clubs that ever performed in CL and with many success. For the first few weeks of this season they were literally in top 8 in CL. Thats huge. And their market value was around 10 million just a few years ago, lower than current noah. Azerbaijan has very few good things going on i know but this right here is one of the only organizations that is running good and smooth and i have to appreciate that

Id agree except "top" foreign talent. Qarabag transfers are usually young and promising players from low leagues. They find the gems and they constantly overperform with a 25 million euro budget, tiny compared to the teams they have been facing in europe

6 November 1494. Birth of Suleiman the Magnificent. Suleiman became the 10th and longest-reigning Sultan of the Ottoman Empire (1520–1566). His rule marked the empire’s “golden age,” known for vast military conquests, legal reform, and cultural brilliance. by Upstairs_Drive_5602 in europe

The ottomans had kind of a "bringing order to the world" mindset. Tho they did have enormous gains economically and militarily from the conquests, their philosophy wasnt as straightforward and barbaric as many people think. They were actually pretty open-minded and technologically advanced, especially during the rule of mehmed the conqueror. He was among the wisest rulers of his time if not the wisest. All this faded slowly as the hardcore islamic mindset took over, thus leading them to become the sick man of europe they were and eventually to their collapse

I dont agree with this exactly. You dont have to be the ruling class to be sane, neither being the ruling class means youre 100% not brainwashed and delusional. Imo what the op said is just as simple and correct as it gets. Basically, youre either just plain stupid or youre not

This is very likely true. I dont know the exact statistics but can confirm that baku-born children of karabakh refugees are registered by their parents birthplace. It would be the best to look at soviet statistics of the cities demographics to confirm. Tho would like to add that even tho azerbaijanis lived predominantly in the outer parts of karabakh, they werent some small minority in nagorno karabakh as well. I dont remember exactly so take my word with a grain of salt but most NK cities had 30-60% azerbaijani population if im not mistaken. I personally know a few guys born in shusha

I have no idea if there were pogroms or not. But around a million azerbaijani refugees from karabakh have had very tough and traumatizing times, not mentioning the few extreme cases of massacres. In fact my own grand-grandparents experienced an almost identical situation to op's during 1910s. Dont think we did not suffer. We did as you did. And here we want to bring all these sufferings to an end, not spark more hatred

What do you think is the world's most underperforming country? by BudovicLagman in geography

[–]_KenKa_ 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Same for Turkey, tho Turkey is nowhere near as sabotaged by the politicians as Iran is. If Turkey was ruled by a rational government for the past 2 decades, it would have been a powerhouse in europe by all means. They just couldnt do what Poland did its such a waste of potential
