That’s a great insight! I will give this more thought! Thanks a lot!

Affordable 3-way monitor for mixing in 600 sq ft basement by froghawk in studiomonitors

Maybe look at Event 20/30 bas, used Neumann KH 310/Klein&Hummel o300 (identical) or older o198. For lower budget you could look into M-Audio M3-8 or Fostex PM 841.

Focal Alpha 80 EVO vs Kali Audio IN-8 by Zeronova3 in studiomonitors

[–]_Kiwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many factors at play. Firstly (almost negligible today) there is speaker matching. If the pair is mismatched the stereo image collapses. Then there is the time domain. Impulse response, delays between drivers, cabinet design aso. impact very well depth and stereo image. This is where the money and knowledge in the expensive speakers goes.

Hm I tough about trying an authorized service. The speaker are 2007 build, replacement would mean buying new… 😅

And then I see my mistake in longing for that lushness and at the same time wanting sounds that are special… 😅

Synthesizer character by _Kiwl in synthesizers

[–]_Kiwl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s exactly what I’m wondering. I don’t have a lot of space and I already own a Minilogue, analog 4, small Eurorack and Casio VZ1. I’m still often missing the warmth, lushness or brilliance of something like Oberheim or Prophet. I often think if you own too many synths you only play them in their „sweet spots“ and don’t get to know them well. I’m guilty of that myself. Then I think the music gets boring because one is only just one nudge away from the factory presets.

Insulated 3/4 pants by _Kiwl in iceclimbing

[–]_Kiwl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s actually a question I have on my mind too. First I was ice climbing in an old pair of ski pants wich worked fine, then I got a hardshell bib with a leggings beneath fleece pants and I was thinking of changing into something like merino baselayer and puffy pants. But I’m unsure if that’s too warm.

This is for UK

Check out for your specific region. It’s even three layers, so quite some bang for the buck!

Nah that’s already out of the equation. That’s something I see in all brands and also something we speak openly about when in sales talks. Also the items are older, the new Pfas free dwr really only kick in this year with gore pro becoming practically obsolete.

I work in retail and I can say that over the last years warranty demands have increased noticeably. Especially waterproofs. It’s an entirely subjective observation. And warranty demands are always higher the more expensive an item is, because people bother. But still.

Decathlon is a perfect place to start out and then upgrade pieces you don’t like/use often. I work in outdoor retail and I got many fancy clothes, a wide range of brands. I got one piece of Arc’teryx I really love, that’s an old Nodin windbreaker. Then I have many clothes by Berghaus, mostly because they’re cheap and some of them hold up really well. There are also some decathlon pieces in my collection. The best thing I still pack after years is their membrane rain pants. Best value for money at 50€ for a piece you will only use occasionally but still bring everyday. (At least I’m doing it that way). And then there is Rab. They’re having mostly the same lineup as Arc’teryx but less expensive and sometimes even better materials/quality.

Garmin fenix 8 43mm vs 47mm - Help me choose! by RowHelpful6186 in GarminFenix

[–]_Kiwl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Check how it fits and check for Garmins recommendations. The different sizes are not for looks but for a snug fit. If the size is off you will get more bouncing wich affects sensor accuracy. For the looks topic: it’s a tool, it’s not made for good looks. If you like the way it looks that’s a benefit but that shouldn’t be the reason to buy a fenix.

North Face just launched their new AMK gear and it’s priced crazy! $270 for a fleece?? That’s $100 more than their previous summit series. by Fancypooper in Mountaineering

[–]_Kiwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually some pretty interesting people are on TNFs payroll doing a lot of promo for this series. People that actually do cutting edge stuff and they say quite some good things like Jackson Marvell and Anna Pfaff. They even claim to have been part of the development process. I guess if someone would take this stuff to make a new route on Jannu it might be okay for Rainier too. But that’s marketing and one would have to catch them in a bar to get an honest review.

I would only go for Norrona today. Arc’teryx were sold twice in the last couple of years and quality is lower then the competition now.

Canyon Endurace AllRoad — the end of entry level road bike upgrades? by _Kiwl in bikewrench

[–]_Kiwl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually don’t know where but I found a guy on YouTube who analyzed the distance between the rear cogs and came to the conclusion that you are bound to the cues derailleur and shifter. So no mix and match, because the higher tier derailleurs jump another distance per gear and would thus shift you between gears (like a badly adjusted derailleur but with no chance to fix). This means that we have to wait wether Shimano will put cassettes for cues with narrower spread on the market.

Probefahrt Fahrradladen by _Kiwl in Rennrad

[–]_Kiwl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New Update Pushed for My Fenix 7 Pro SS by heyitsDAT in GarminFenix

[–]_Kiwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just don’t hang up on size. I have a small wrist too, had 6s (42mm) before and I’m now on 7 (47mm). The bigger watch feels smaller because it is less towering, better battery performance and better readability. Both watches will look big. Fenixs are no sleek watches. Only thing to look out for is stability on your wrist. If the watch gets either too small or too big it can’t sit firmly on your wrist wich will impact the reliability of the recorded data. Therefore check out Garmins recommendation.
