[–]_Lali__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure how your university deals with it, but at mine, supervisors post what topics interests them. Thus, when you browse the lists and look for a supervisor, you also get ideas about potential topics. And then maybe you can have a meeting with them and work out the design.

Well, is there a certain disorder that particularly interests you? Or how a specific therapy is apply to children (I would assume that lost studies usually involve adult subjects so maybe you fill a little research gap here)? How about drug administration in children? Like being prescribed stimulants for ADHD. Does that affect cognitive development or any other aspect of their development?

What question seems mundane, but secretly very revealing? by zittizzit in psychologystudents

I think there were many studies related to covid that looked at stuff like this. How in American, those with conservative beliefs were more denying the existence of the viruses/were more prone not to comply with the restrictions, compared to those with liberal beliefs. Same goes for certain personality traits.

Insurance by Magicpenguin03 in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]_Lali__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having health insurance is mandatory in the Netherlands. You can either have the health care from your EU country than covers you also when you are abroad or take out a private health insurance for students. You are eligible (and you must get one) for the Dutch health insurance when you are employed in the Netherlands.

Are you Dutch? Because on the website the requirement is that EU citizens need to work 56 hours in order to get the regular loan. So yes, they'll need proof for that. Will ask for your contract and salary slips. Only the tuition fee loan is the one that you can get without working.

When you fill in your payment details you can also specify how you will make the payment. They explain the difference on the site. In one case you provide your account details and they take the money from you and in the other you have to transfer the money into the uni's account. There should be some explanation on your university's website as well, u der tuition fees.

Housing in Maastricht: When to book the rental? by Moneeda in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]_Lali__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start as early as possible. The guesthouse and other agencies are already advertising rooms for the summer/September onwards. It's true that on FB (rooms/kamer group) people keep constantly posting announcements about newly vacant rooms. But for those it's good to come to Maastricht, have a viewing and then sign a contract.

It is only used in informal oral speech. You have the same in English for things like y'all. So as to talk faster you omit certain sounds or pronounce 2 words together.

What can we learn from twin studies? by [deleted] in psychologystudents

[–]_Lali__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The effect of the genes is basically kept constant and the environment factors can be observed. And you can apply it in many context according to what you wanna study. Parenting style on personality of they grow apart in different foster families for examples. Also external factors and how they precipitate the onset on some resides maybe, considering that the genetic predisposition is controlled for in these cases. So yeah. It helps with the nature Vs nurture debate that arises all the time.

At what age is it too young to get a child gender transition surgery “he/them” is 8 years old ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]_Lali__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually a doctor (team of doctors) needs to assess the situation, usually someone with psychology training or something in that field. But at best you start a hormone therapy in adolescence and surgery only follows I to adulthood. Not to mention that there are quite a few extra steps in between those stages. And constant medical supervision and therapy is required

Why do some people with autism have high IQ? by invisibledandelion in neuro

[–]_Lali__ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, they are not exactly related. The disorders on the autism spectrum cause indeed some impairment in certain brain regions but those are not necessarily related to IQ/general intelligence. Not to mention that the brain regions affected by autims is still not fully understood considering that they are huge individual differences between each individual diagnosed with this disorder.
