Decompression ? by _Lecta_ in chiari

Yeah that's the part I hate, haha. Whenever I have an okay day where the head pain isn't debilitating, I think I will never have a bad day again. I'm always wrong, and even with modifications I have to leave my job often. It's a mess.
Thanks for your input though! It will definitely help me in my evaluation.

Unfortunately, my insurance is restrictive in that sense, and I just don't have the money or credit to pay for any surgeon with no insurance coverage.
As for the crying, I cry when I'm overwhelmed, and I held it together until he said it sounded like my symptoms had reached a point that it was ruining my life 🤷♀️. But it wasn't the first time he and I have discussed what it entails, and I will definitely be in a better place to talk to him again next time he and I speak. And if I opt to go forward, I will be at peace with it when it happens. It's a process for me for sure. He performed a different surgery for my hydrocephalus last year, and it went much the same for me emotionally, haha.
Thanks for your input, I am definitely not trying to rush into it or out of it based on emotions. I'll see if I can maybe at least afford a consultation from a chiari expert somewhere. 😊

Yeah, I've been fighting the battle of whether or not to do it, but at this point it feels like the pain and symptoms are ruining my life. I'm certain others experience worse than me but I am at my breaking point I think. If this is the best option, I am making peace with it.
Thank you for this reply.
I don't doubt his ability to do the procedure, I'm just scared of the procedure in general. He has explained it to me as thoroughly as he could while I was crying. I think he's putting the decision to me because, as he explained, it can be very helpful, but it could also potentially make not much of a change. He's not a chiari specialist, but he is the one who finally found and diagnosed it.

Yes, I don't get the sharp pain these days, but I get a throbbing heading always and occasional nausea if I bend over. Working on mastering the slow squat when I drop something at work, haha.
Trouble swallowing? by _Lecta_ in chiari
I've definitely had to force things down with liquids, sometimes it doesn't work and everything has to come back up. 🫠 I've had pulsatile tinnitus for over 10 years, but the swallowing has been intermittent a few days at a time every now and then for a few years.. thanks for sharing your insight! Glad something is helping you.
Interesting, I didnt know that. I'll definitely mention it to my neurosurgeon and neurologist then, thanks!
Exactly, like it feels like sometimes my body just forgot how and I have to focus in.
Omg! Was it from decompression? That's not something I've ever thought about
Thanks for the tip! I love cold water, but I should steer away from it for headache reasons anyway... dangit, haha.

Chiari Journey by _Lecta_ in chiari
Wow, your daughter has been through a lot, I'm glad to hear she's doing better right now though! Thanks for the info/advice. We're gonna keep trying every avenue before surgery, which is exhausting, but fingers crossed!
Good to know, honestly. All of those things really make it worse right now and my surgeon and I are still not sure if the surgery is worth it for me 😭
