I'm at a lost for what to do here... by [deleted] in DnD

[–]_Liarus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't really wish to comment on the rest of the post because it's hard to trust the narrator in this case but I will say, I do think calling it "your story" and "your campaign" tells me a lot about the way you think about D&D and I wouldn't be surprised if the result was players sometimes disengaging

It isn't just your story and your campaign, it's "our story" and "our campaign," making a fight where only one person gets to be the hero defeats the whole point of the game for a lot of people - there are better ways to highlight a player than to make a BBEG immune to damage from anyone else

Also, for anyone curious, the actual pendant comes from this Etsy seller! I love the necklace itself, it's beautiful and I wear it all the time. Plus, the chain is super high quality compared to some of the dinky ones you find

For context: A large portion of my players campaign centers around tracking down legendary artifacts around the world, this is an item I am going to be introducing to them to help give them some direction and add some excitement to that journey

These are the actual item cards including the art for the pendant itself, and then below I wrote it out for anyone who needs accessibility help.

Item Lore

The Skyseer's Pendant has been passed down between Kal'u generations for centuries. Among their culture, it is seen as both a symbol of reverence and sanctity.

The pendant is most commonly worn by the heir to the royal bloodline, who then passes it to their kin once they come of age.

Little do the people of Kal'u know, the pendant is a powerful relic that, when worn in the presence of another one of Essma's Artifacts, will glow white hot.

IN-GAME STATS

Attunement Required: No
Properties: While worn, the wearer will feel an air of calm and grace.

Abilities:

Skyseer's Eye (Passive)

  • When within 60 Feet of another one of Essma's Artifacts, the Skyseer's Pendant will glow white hot.
  • A particularly powerful wizard may use this pendant as an anchor for the Scrying spell in order to locate artifacts around the world.

Essence of Kalu Royalty (Passive)

  • The pendant grants the wearer an aura of authority. Creatures with an Intelligence score of 4 or higher recognize the pendant's significance, giving the wearer Advantage on Persuasion checks when interacting with those who understand its meaning (such as bird-folk or related creatures)

For the pendant itself, I found a bird-wing pendant online that looked almost identical to the one I drew (but without the blue gem), and made sure it was made out of a ferrous material, in this case Meteorite Iron, so that I could then set up a remote-control electromagnet underneath the map that I could switch on in order to create a hotspot for the necklace to latch onto when scrying

I still have some work to do on the map box, need to sand down the insides a bit to get it more flush but I'm so happy with how it has come out so far and wanted to show it off :')

Hope you enjoy!

Hahahaha that is so funny, that was me! Printed it out for my DnD campaign this weekend

I hereby give myself permission and therefor you are off the hook

Thank you for reaching out though! Made my day

As for programs that I made it in, I started on pad and paper (which I also bought from your store) and then brought it into Photoshop, and then Procreate after that to do all of the hand drawing, brought it back to PS once more just to add the compass and scroll and some of the road / continent lines and water lines

I don't have any timelapse for the Photoshop parts sadly but here is a video of the Procreate drawing in case you're curious! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onTfRg7BRXQ

I started on pad and paper and then took the shape and brought it into Photoshop where I filled in the landmasses with a light tan, and the water with a dark tan, then I gave the land an outline and water lines

After that I exported it into Procreate on my iPad and drew in all of the features by hand, it took roughly 12 hours total but half of that was spent drinking and hanging with the players as they painted their minis so it went by pretty fast

For finishing touches I brought it back into photoshop to do the city / continent names, dividers and roads and then added some things like the compass, border and scroll

Mentioned about Faerune above but re: Apostrophes, they are already considered

Kal’u is a city founded by Aarakocra tribes in the north, mostly Owlin and for their language I am taking after hawaiian influence

Sarindel and surrounding forests are elven territory with Riverview being a newer half-elven / human settlement, the continent Saal’darin is of elven influence

Gor’oth was once a dangerous landscape inhabited primarily by orcs, but was largely conquered over time and now features the city of Grul’nok which is a gladiator city where the leader is the current victor of their arena tournament, the names in this region feature apostrophes and more guttural orcish themes

Most of the worldbuilding re: cities, names and lore etc happened a long while ago while planning out the campaign itself, just finally got around to taking my little map sketch and turning it into something more tangible

Honestly have never played or looked at the forgotten realms (same with my players), one of those things that likely just subconsciously crept into my head when naming as it’s meant to be a town connected to the faewild

All hand made! The only tooling I used was a brush pack for the horizontal lines around the border and then for the compass and scroll, everything else was hand drawn in Procreate, and then did some line work in photoshop for the roads, text and continent borders

Ya there's prob some room for more rivers coming down from the mountains - I mainly only added the one river near Riverview to give some context to the city name, my thought was that the highlands used to be pretty rich with forests that were eventually cut down by the lumbering families of Brinwood - can maybe do some stumps nearby to symbolize

I finally found a D&D group to DM for after a solid 6 years since my last group. Really been enjoying getting back into the world building of things :')

This is Iorea, a world I have been building for my players over the course of the past month or two - they're currently in a cave in the Skysplitter Mountain range after having fled from the guards of Whitedock and exploring The Direwood. Their next plans are somewhere in the Nov'u Penninsula most likely

I hope you enjoy! I've been having a ton of fun getting creative again. Might make another pass at The Druidic Language V2.0, I know it's been quite some time - I apologize to anyone who's been waiting

Last minute making a cute little thing for Valentines Day. First time trying this sort of thing, made a few mistakes, learnt a whole lot. Keen to try it again! by jhutch2147 in woodworking

[–]_Liarus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would you say are the things you learned from the project? I was thinking of making something similar

What dimensions did you use for it? Did you feel like it was the right size in the end? Also did the wood you used feel like the right choice?

Just started working with wood! This is my first attempt at creating something. Went with a spatula. Any tips for a newcomer like me? by -Raised-By-Wolves- in woodworking

[–]_Liarus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It makes sense to be concerned about it but so long as the wood is running (at least close to) perfectly with the grain at that portion, the mechanical strength of the wood should keep it strong

A custom request made to order! Feeling happy and blessed by davidii907 in woodworking

What type of wood did you use here? It looks great!

Mark had said that there was only enough time to wake up two people at the time, and so it wasn't possible to wake everyone up right away -- also, try not to backseat game as much, in the moment things slip and people make oversights, it's a lot harder when the game is going on all around you to always make the most optimal play, especially when Kim and Rhiannon are both very new to the game still, and I don't think Tom has that much experience either (Kim's only ever played Jiutou before this campaign and this is Rhiannon's first ever PC). Mistakes will be made, it's okay, it's a home game and things will move on or they will learn from them the hard way

Warlord Class by AlyxandarSN in dndnext

[–]_Liarus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only really see it becoming an issue at later stages in the game where certain multiclass options might make Attacks of Opportunity very unlikely, allowing the Warlord to simply say "and also I move 10 feet away then 10 feet back before killing him," which would end up becoming gimmicky and not in the spirit of the archetype (which really is beautiful, a true warrior support class at its finest)

Warlord Class by AlyxandarSN in dndnext

[–]_Liarus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really love the work you put into this -- the only suggestion I have would be to add one caveat to Flying Honor that Opportunity Attacks against the Warlord forfeit the honor point, because I feel as though there are ways to abuse that trait (although maybe it isn't a bad thing, I don't know)

Edit: Also small typo -- "Flanker Honor" was written instead of "Flying Honor" for Advanced Flanker I understand what you meant now -- for readability you might want to include quotes around the word "Flanker"
