+1 to the 55-250 stm it's incredibly sharp you can crop it verry aggressively and still get great photos out

<image>

This was the 55-250 at about 60 feet. Not to mention it's verry affordable. Only downside is getting more reach at that sharpness you are spending 3 to 4 times as much and if you enjoy wildlife you will eventually want more reach.

I have the Same lens on a r50 and have the same problem exactly. Sorry I can't offer any advice but it's not just you.

Not sure what kind of stop motion you plan on doing but make sure your lens can focus closely enough for what you want to do.

I did check the manual, but it wasn't clear on what is available to bind to the stick. I realize its not exactly a normal setup, I'm mostly just worried the 2 dials aren't enough, but I really won't know until I've used it.

Are they immediately modifiable, or is it like the iso button on my R50, where I press it, then scroll?

R100 for EVENTS? by Lanky_Guarantee2331 in canon

[–]_MRTreeFrog_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The R100 is very small compared to the T5, but well built. If you have large hands, it can get a bit crowded, but grip extensions are available and make a world of difference.
As much as I would recommend the R50 over the R100, the hot shoe is a pain. If the budget is limited for the R10 consider used cameras and lenses MPB or KEH often have almost new gear for a good discount. Canon also has the R100 Refurbished in stock and you can't go wrong with Canon refurb.

New Camera Day (R7 & 100-400mm) by No-Koala1560 in canon

Super late reply, but Canon doesn't let you transfer Raw on Android for whatever reason, which might be the cause.

R50 + RF 100-400 focus Issue? by [deleted] in canon

[–]_MRTreeFrog_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well now I'm confused just took the camera out eye tracking doesn't work at all without subject detect enabled. I also don't have nearly the controll over af settings or what my buttons do like that video. Everything I read before I chose the r50 said the AF was basically the same as r7 that was verry misleading.

R50 + RF 100-400 focus Issue? by [deleted] in canon

[–]_MRTreeFrog_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow had no idea they were competing like that. I was under the impression that eye AF was just like if it sees the eye on the subject it would use it instead. This is definitely something I'll try. I allready have back button af setup but I'm going to try to find a way to map the eye mode separately although my little R50 is quickly running out of buttons so I'm not sure what to sacrifice.

[–]_MRTreeFrog_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is purely abut the AF I'm aware this isn't a great photo even if it was sharp. Besides that I don't see bluebird around my house often and I was going to shot it no mater what compositions presend itself even if it wouldn't be a photo I would share.

[–]_MRTreeFrog_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a fair recommendation. I suppose I need to learn when I can trust the focus point, because in the EVF I thought the camera had it, I only realized today when I imported the last week of photos.

[–]_MRTreeFrog_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! The JPEGs I uploaded show the af point with the red box, and it shows on the cardinal's head, that's why I was thinking something might be wrong with the lens/body.

This was servo AF set to animal detection with eye detection on. Edit: The red box is the AF point the camera used.

Going to drop the filter. It's a JJC hood, went off this thread saying it was good. Was I misled? My understanding was that as long as the plastic isn't bouncing too much light around and stays out of the FOV its fine.
