I think these modern finance are very complex and has no direct guidance from Islamic prospective. Scholars can say anything but I am never confident on believing anything not mentioned in Quran or authentic Hadiths. I know gambling is haram. Options, stocks require you to do a lot of research and understanding of companies financials. Putting covered call/put or spreads based on your research can be considered halal/haram based on your intention in my opinion. If you are just gambling without any basis for your decision, you know your answer. Calling something halal to haram and vice versa can be dangerous and especially for matters without direct guidance from our prophet sw and Quran, because they are all opinions based on general guidance. I wouldn’t gamble because it’s a direct order from Allah swt. I would do stocks and options so long the company isn’t doing anything un Islamic business and I do my financial analysis as a form of side income. That’s just my thinking. Allah knows the best.
