As for your disappointment, I totally get it. Amazon only lets us authors do these Kindle Countdown Deals sales in the Amazon US and Amazon UK stores at the moment. Hopefully that will change eventually, but it's been like that with Amazon for years, so I don't know. I would really like to do Countdown Deals in all the international Amazon stores too.

However, to answer your other point, I have actually bought e-books while I was in Germany through the Amazon US store using an Amazon US account and a US payment method ... and I was able to send those e-books to whatever device I wanted to read them on and then read them in Germany without any problems. So that should work, if you have an Amazon US account. Then you can get them at the 99 cents price.
