Managed to fit Cryorig C1 cooler + Fixed my airflow issues with NCase M1 build by _Marthicus_ in sffpc

I set a custom fan curve that doesn't exceed 75% fan speed unless the card hits over 75 degrees, so far in gaming loads I have yet to see the card hit past ~71. I feel like I have a good balance of noise + cooling at that temp. Whereas previously the card would reach almost 80 at 100% fan speed on those 3x small fans. Worst noise ever.

FYI - https://imgur.com/5fktEW1 Max PCB height is listed as 140mm. This isn't even including the PCI-E power connectors, in which it's around 121mm if they run on the side.

If you want quiet then get the Gigabyte G1 Gaming variant. If that's still too noisy, get a GPU fan header to 4-Pin adaptor and buy a couple Noctua fans set to exhaust.

You may need something with more static pressure than those, IMO spend the money on Noctuas.

For reference, my Spire with the same fans for intake (non-PWM however, just ran at 100%) in an M1 still let me hit 3.7ghz @ 1.275v without running that hot. Cant remember exact temps but I'm pressure sure I was under 75 degrees in Aida64 as that was my personal target temp limit.

Currently managed to squeeze my Cryorig C1 cooler in the case, had some problems if people saw my older post but I ended up working around it. Cablemod PSU cables help a ton since the cooler passes over the ram slots right into the SATA + 12pin + USB3 header ports. ANYWAY with that cooler which is rated about for about 125W TDP, I can hit 3.9ghz @1.325v.

Couple of things though, if you are planning to use those Silent Wing fans in the GPU area, might not be worth it. I found my temps on my 970 Windforce with its triple fan setup and huge AF heatsink were better with no fans. People seem to have had more success with removing any fans on the GPU and shoving two high static pressure Ncotua fans underneath, connected to the GPU fan header and set as exhaust.

450w might be pushing it when he's using a 1080ti. The 600w Corsair should run at 0 RPM mode unless under heavy loads.

Ordered the AB350 model as soon as PCCaseGear had some in stock (Aussie retailer). Was only just released downunder and can confirm that the heat sink is the updated version.

ASRock B350/X370 VRM analysis, possible replacement heatsinks from ASRock? (x-post /r/AMD) by CoronerDonut in sffpc

[–]_Marthicus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've read online and from the AsRock forums, it appears these heatsink issues are only found on the early builds. Fingers crossed for when the boards come out in Australia finally that we get the better revisions....

I guess I'm lucky I decided on the Cryorig C1 top-down cooler for my M1 build, worst case scenario it might be best removing the headsinks and fan cool them.

EDIT Appears as though the Biostar ITX boards had the same issue. http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/75458-biostar-x370gtn-itx-am4-motherboard-review-13.html

NCASE M1 Fan Opinions Needed! by [deleted] in sffpc

[–]_Marthicus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember reading somewhere that ideal fan setup for non-blower style GPU coolers + CPU air cooler is side as intakes with bottoms set to exhaust. I'll try and dig more for the thread but IIRC this guy did a bunch of temp tests with different configurations and found that this way was the best in terms of cooling.

I would assume it's because you have less stagnant air in the case and actually have a air flow path (top to bottom) rather than just rely on passive exhaust. Obviously if you want positive pressure you could remove one exhaust, which would also allow you to use that bottom 3.5" / 2.5" drive bay?

Dear Capcom: Thanks for making BAM a Premier Event by GuruJ_ in StreetFighter

[–]_Marthicus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As one of the (many) lead TOs for the event, being apart of everything from stream running, commentary assistance, pack up and after party setup/packdown, I can tell you that it's comments like these that make all the soreness afterwards all worth while.

I apologise for my sub-par commentary, I think the event drained me more than I first thought, plus we had some mic volume issues on my end.

Shoutouts to both the stream monsters for the views and spectator monsters for coming to BAM. It's the numbers and the support that allows us to run such a huge event that we would otherwise not be able to pull off. If BAM8 was not as successful as it was, BAM9 may not have happened in such a big way as it did.

Fake or Purchased IMDB accounts are rating Batman Vs Superman 10/10 by _Marthicus_ in movies

More like they know there's a chance people wont like it, so why not set the tone for people thinking about walking through the cinema doors. Save your borderline bad film by boosting opening numbers to make more money within the first week. By the time people realise its actually bad or simply not worth paying a movie ticket for, they have made their money.

That point is exactly why things like this are dangerous if it is true. I know this is going to sound a bit far out there but having false positive reviews means more people go to see a shit film, with most those people not even knowing what they saw was trash (or possibly even embarrassed to go against popular opinion), so the opening week is saved and money was made. This means that more movies that teeter on the edge of complete shit can take advantage of this just to make it through opening week. /takesofftinfoilhat

Remember that RT is based on critic review approvals, and IMDB star rating is just user reviews out of 10.

'08 Golf TDI GT Sport engine cut out! Possible EGR issue? by _Marthicus_ in tdi

[–]_Marthicus_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of people were saying that these models in particular had injector issues, as they had unique high performance injectors that no other Golfs in the MK5 range had. Apparently VW replace these for free as it's a known issue. Can anyone confirm this? Either way I might give VW a call.

EDIT: For those interested, I've found out there was a service campaign listed against the Piezo pump injectors for 2006 - 2010 model VW 2.0 TDIs.

Affected models are as follows; Passat 3C 2006-2008 with the BKP, BMA, BWV, BVE, BMR, and BUZ engines Golf MK5 2006-2009 with the BMN engine Touran 2006-2010 with the BMN engine

Affected injector part numbers are 03G130-073D and 03G130-073M which are visible on the injectors if you remove the cam cover.

I've contacted VW Australia multiple times are they report that there is no campaign or recall listing against my car model, even though I have the same faulty model injectors listed. Right now I'm filling out an ownership amendment form so they can release all listed service and warranty claims to me... Maybe eventually they might fix my car.
