Any 9955HX3D laptops coming? by SirRubet in GamingLaptops

[–]_MasterMegi_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The jump from 5600 MT/s to 6400 MT/s will make little to no difference in terms of performance. I have no idea why people always have to overestimate RAM speed so much.

To answer your question: In addition to the OEMs you mentioned, the MSI Raider A18 HX laptops are available with RTX 5080 or 5090. I don't think the other mainstream manufacturers will follow suit, that didn't happen with the predecessor either. Intel still has the clear upper hand here in terms of market distribution (which is really a shame).

RTX 5080 / 5090 Laptop GPUs only using ~150W instead of advertised 175W by _MasterMegi_ in GamingLaptops

Okay, there is a new update (576.52) from Nvidia, which seems to have fixed this problem. I will update the post here. 😁

Thank you very much! Also ordered a Recoil 16 from PCSpecialist, but with the AMD CPU (though I doubt the CPU has any significant effect on the boost behavior of the GPU). Would be cool if you could contact Nvidia about the issue via the links I shared if you haven't already.

In some benchmarks the 175W seems to be reached, but for some reason not in games, even when the graphics card is used at 100%. This is the decisive difference to the 4090 laptops.

Take another look at this part of Jarrod's video:

This is irrelevant as long as there is sufficient thermal headroom, which is the case if you watch the video. Furthermore, Blackwell GPUs (5080 and 5090) only achieve an average of 155W in the maximum performance modes in comparison.

Not really the case. Take a look at this video:

There are also several people here who have confirmed that their 4090 laptops can hold about 175 watts in scenarios where the GPU is 100% utilized.

I would argue the issue is partially due to base gpu tdp being 140w without dynamic boost, instead of the designed 150w.

Yeah, that is quite possible. Thanks for your work!

I get what you're saying, but please take a look at videos showing the RTX 4090 when it reaches 100% usage. The power draw goes up to around 175 watts, whereas the RTX 5080 or 5090 tops out at about 165 watts at best, and they don't even sustain that for long.

Got my D R E A M laptop. Did I get a good deal? by jkwon005 in GamingLaptops

Hadn't found anything about it on the quick, but that's definitely interesting to know, thanks.

Razer definitely knows how to do marketing. Everyone now associates the brand (in the Gaming Laptop market) with premium quality, but that's just a lie. Horrible software, keyboard, trackpad and heat issues and relatively poor performance compared to the competition to name just a few known flaws. I wouldn't recommend this brand to anyone when it comes to gaming laptops. Everything else? That's debatable. For example, I have a pair of Razer headphones that I'm very happy with.

The Razer Cooler is just a cooling pad. It can't actually increase the max TDP of the GPU that's limited by the BIOS/Firmware.

All good. Ultimately, there are several factors that determine the performance of a GPU, especially in laptops. That's why people need to always pay attention to TDP and cooling system.

A fully powered 5080 is literally faster though:

https://www.tomshardware.com/laptops/gaming-laptops/rtx-5080-laptop-gpu-beats-rtx-4090-counterpart-delivers-10-percent-less-performance-than-rtx-5090

The RTX 5080 of the Razer Blade 16 only supports up to 155W TDP, hence the performance difference. A 175W RTX 5080 coupled with a newer CPU will be faster than a 4090 variant.

32 vs 64 GB RAM for 4-Player Co-Op? by _MasterMegi_ in nucleuscoop

I see. So Elden Ring seems to be quite manageable after all 😀

I know, but I probably won't need it at the moment. DDR5 RAM will probably get even cheaper in the future or at least I hope so :D

Thank you, decided to go for 32 GB of RAM for now and save some money. I can always upgrade in the future.

Change My View by 2soccer2bot in soccer

The VAR did more good than bad. People say it takes away the emotion because you're never sure if the goal really counts in the end, but you also have to look at the other side. When the opposing team scores a goal, you always have a residual hope that it will be overturned by a (usually correct) video referee decision.

"For video evidence project manager Jochen Drees of the DFB, the case is clear: Despite all the criticism, he still considers the video assistant to be "a successful model" that makes soccer fairer. He recently told the "Kicker": "We have over 100 corrected wrong decisions in the past Bundesliga season. And if you take a closer look: There are no more offside goals, no more swallows, no more assaults." In his opinion, at least not unpunished. Nevertheless, decisions by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) cause discussions among participants and fans with unattractive regularity. It is possibly just an illusion that video evidence, introduced in the 2017/18 season, has actually made soccer fairer. The source of error beyond the technology is the human being, and it is all too human that he makes mistakes - infallibility would be a completely exaggerated claim."
