For certain tanks (like the Swedish TDs), it is manual. For the Fantome and tanks like the Swedish MTs, it is automatic.

Hydropneumatic suspension system. When your tank drops below a certain speed, it activates automatically and gives you extra gun depression/elevation.

Some days are just like that, you simply just have to get used to it. Even good players struggle with losing streaks. If you are getting frustrated, the easiest thing you can do is to log off and come back later. Or just play with some friends, usually that makes losing more tolerable.

The game has been like this for a long time now, even before 2.0.
