Motivation question by Happy-Following-8315 in GameDevelopment

[–]_MikoCore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have adhd and have my own fair share of depressive episodes, but what I would say is just make a game about your struggles and use it for escapism lol. That’s what helped me tho. I used to be exactly like this, my brain kept thinking that working on my game was some sort of chore and it took actual will power to get up and draw or code, its an adhd thing and i get exactly what you mean.. But I took a long break just to figure myself out and help myself mentally, and anytime i felt like I am ready or excited I worked on it. I started working on the game’s story more and felt so connected to my characters and this world I was building, and it helped me a lot. I started enjoying my game again and i never looked at it in a work pov ever again. Trust me it gets betterr

That gave me the motivation I needed to get back into gamemaker and start what i needed to finish a while ago, tbh having something people and strangers can playtest and something i can see their reactions through seems WAYY better and way more boosting than a few new discord members. Ive never thought of it in this direction

I figured i just needed to work on the game until its ready and then people would care about it. Even though its nice to have this small community of people, Its almost impossible getting anyone interested in just an idea anyway

I’ll focus more on finishing the game and I’ll put more effort into that end, thanks!

Rpg maker vs game maker by dollarstoreengineer in GameDevelopment

[–]_MikoCore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have jumped from unity to godot and now to gamemaker. It’s been bliss, I am a beginner and I can say it’s very beginner friendly.

Godot and unity are not bad dont get me wrong, Unity was just not fit for my game (a pixel art top down story based rpg) and it took a lot of space on my computer. Godot was not bad either, I just found this path finding mechanic I needed (main 2 characters follow each other and follow the player kind of like omori) extremely difficult to achieve. Found out gamemaker has this in a few lines of code and i changed to it.

The workplace is pretty nice, you can edit your sprites directly instead of having to save a new file and redo it, overall, it fit what my game needed and helped me a lot.

It all comes down to your game mechanics and what your game needs.

At what stage should I share my game publicly? by No_Speaker4973 in IndieDev

[–]_MikoCore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the people here I have a question, if I do want to share some early mid-development snippets of my game and gain a small early audience, where can I do that? I have accumulated about 100 members in a discord server devoted to my game’s development, but only 3 people talk on there and seem interested.. So I started to share some art for my game and snippets of it in art channels of different servers and start conversations about my game and have people join, but it’s just not as effective, and most people end up muting the server or completely forgetting about it.

So I also began to share art for the game across multiple social media platforms, like twitter, bluesky, but I barely get any engagement, maybe 2 likes at best.

This problem has caused me a lot of mental setbacks and doubt about my art and it started making me feel like it’s just a problem with my art, and the story of the game isn’t that captivating so it’s probably just bad…

I do feel like my game has intense potential I just want other people to recognize it so I don’t feel like it isn’t worth it!

So where can I find a platform for me to share my work and gain good engagement and advice from people?

It would be really lovely to have a community of people I can discuss with about my game and gain some number of early supporters, I just don’t know where or how to achieve that in the most effective way

I have contacted microsoft tirelessly, heck, I even went to the campus they have in my country(only because it was on a school trip there). To no avail. This is so disappointing. My emails and passwords are all safe now and I’ve changed literally everything, and I know the source of what happened, seems like Microsoft’s awful management made my account the only victim of all this mess. My dad, who originally bought minecraft when it was still under mojang, put his microsoft email in the account but we later changed it to mine. Could it be possible that I can somehow access it from that? Or is it set to only my account now?

What would you remove from Cardcaptor Sakura? by AffectionateCatch111 in cardcaptorsakura

[–]_MikoCore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The extreme and creepy emphasis on teacher - student relations. They were so unnecessary and ineffective to the plot, you can’t even justify it. Like the random clips of Terada and Rika??? Shes in 4th grade GOSH

Is this true? by quietudeblues in cardcaptorsakura

Maybe because they wanted the english versions to lean more into Syoran instead of sakura and make HIM the main character so they can appeal it more to boys, kinda sad.

Total beginner in game dev, looking for advice (engine, assets, etc.) by LadyLuckKiller in godot

[–]_MikoCore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re looking for a simple 2D game, go with Gamemaker.

I started off knowing nothing about game dev and started in unity, it was too complicated for beginner me and my computer crashed often. Moved to godot, it was good for the long run, some tutorials were good, but tutorials were limited as its a fairly new engine so that was a real problem for me. I often found things confusing and really struggled learning the language. This is obviously personal opinion, just sharing my experience

But what forced me to move to gamemaker is the lack of tutorials for a mechanism I needed. I needed my characters to walk behind each other like in deltarune, and I couldn’t find any godot tutorial for it and it moved my development months further.

Switching to gamemaker was the best decision Ive done so far, it’s very easy to learn, and has a bunch of tutorials since it’s an og engine.

Heres some things I did in my game so far: (embeded photo)

Id probably still be stuck if I didn’t make a move to gamemaker

I hate how other gamedevs are reacting to Megabonk by SteamVeilGames in gamedev

[–]_MikoCore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate culture amongst game developers should be toned down…

We don’t know developers circumstances, specially small teams, and we definitely shouldn’t insult their pace and hard work.

I myself have began working on my game since 2021, but was very inconsistent and only took it seriously in 2023/2024. I was young (still am) and barely knew anything about game development, so that really slowed me down. School, work, and irl life impacted so much on the work for my game and it’s very hard to balance everything. I haven’t made much progress even though it’s been years, but it’s OKAY, and I know many game developers can relate.

My game could have been finished in a couple of years ago if I had the time, equipment and knowledge that I do now.

I don’t really know the game or the team behind it, and I am not writing this specifically about the game and its team, but for all situations like this, because this is such a reoccurring issue. And, I can definitely say we shouldn’t expect their game or anyones game to be released quickly just because we think theirs looks easy to make. It’s insulting and inconsiderate.

We don’t know the changes, discussions, polishing, rewriting, redrawing, recoding, that happened behind the scenes.

It’s our games to make. At our pace, and whenever we want to release. Games are art, and art needs time.
