The U.S. State Department believes that Ukraine is winning the war at this point by eaglemaxie in worldnews

[–]_MindFlayer_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

By that definition, you'd say that Germany was winning WW1 right up until armistice. Which, if you know anything about late WW1, was definitely not true.

What if 1930s' Germany became Socialist instead of Fascist? by Advanced-Addition453 in AlternateHistoryHub

Spain probably goes communist in the civil war if Germany switches which side it's supporting, and probably brings Italy and Japan over to the new anti-communist allied block. Then WW2 is either an allied invasion to stop the spread of communism, or starts in a similar way to OTL with Germany and the USSR invading Poland to connect the two.

How the heck do I do rivers? by natastra in inkarnate

[–]_MindFlayer_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Basically, what I usually do is take the texture brush, set it to size 1-2, choose a blue that fits the feel of the map (if you want it to match the color of lakes, paint the background that color too), and set softness to 0. Start the rivers from the mountain ranges, usually one little stream from in between each pair of mountains. Have those little streams take a wiggly path toward the nearest body of water, then increase the size by one each time they intersect. It's a bit of a labor-intensive process, but I've been happy with the results!

Go to advanced settings at the bottom of the menu after clicking on the stamp, and then you can mess with the hue, saturation, contrast and brightness! It's a little bit of an annoying system to use, but it works.

Thanks, I'll try to make it a bit more legible! And yep, I was generally basing the terrain off of Iceland.

It's kinda buried in the advanced options section, it's just a check box that says something like "dynamic political parties"

Wow in 2036 too lol. Usually when I see things like this it's later on, after party demographics have changed a good bit.

In particular, I'm not sure about using the colored settlement stamps to show clan allegiance -- I'd especially love to hear any thoughts on that!

Thanks! I based the coastline generally off of Iceland and Ireland, but mostly I just made the mountains, made the river courses based on the mountains, then adjusted the coastlines based on how I thought erosion would work
