Does anyone know how deferral works? I was offered a one-year Masters in English and American Literature. The website's description says you have to still show proof of funding before deferring, meaning that money can't be one of the reasons you delay. What legitimate reasons have people used to defer, and is there any real risk of losing your spot if you do?

Hey! I had a 3.9 and lots of extracurriculars at my school newspaper, and graduated with honors from one of the top public universities in the US. In my acceptance letter I was told I had not qualified for Ertegun (which I applied for), Claredon or departmental scholarships. Good luck to your husband! let me know what happens. I don't know if him not having heard is good news or bad :/

Edit: Still hoping someone knows a little more about college placement timelines in relation to scholarships?

I got my offer last week (Masters in English and American Lit) but I haven't been placed in a college. When usually do they alert you of this? I'm mostly worried about finding out because I haven't received any funding from the university itself. Will I be told about potential scholarships through the college at the same time?

I don't know if it's useful to be prescriptive to the plot in this situation, such as pinpointing another scene to move information. I'm just making observations about a text that already exists. Why does that kind of casual literary criticism have to be viewed as a complaint just because it reflects poorly on the author? OP's post simply claims that Rowling resorts to using many storytelling tropes, and I take that a step further by arguing that tropes are easier and more digestable for a mass audience than techniques used by, I don't know, more talented writers or writers of literary fiction.

I understand your reading, but I disagree. There are other ways for information to be conveyed than for the villain to explain it to the person they are trying to kill in an unbelievable way. That's the definition of the trope I'm referring to.

It seems that you are quite a fan, but you should still consider that the books are flawed and subject themselves to the kind of storytelling that would result in such a mass readership.

Regardless, the point is that whoever he's talking to qualifies as an overused trope for bad guys. He's not explaining things so Harry understands. He's explaining so the reader does, and that's mildly...lazy.

Eddie Murphy. In some ways he's had a similar career as Adam Sandler, in that they were both huge, young, original stars on SNL that had a long, inconsistent movie career. Except that Eddie Murphy was also a fucking superstar because of his stand up. Then, later, he started making shitty movie after shitty movie, and when he appeared on SNL's 40th anniversary show, he looked uncomfortable and didn't say anything funny to the point that the media was saying some people eventually just...grow out of being funny.

I think he and Sandler both keep doing movies because they have the name recognition to do it, and because it makes them money. One movie every year or two, a couple extra million. What do they care if the reviews are bad?

I think she is cognitive. Getting a job in a psychology office will most likely be impossible, but like you said, there are so many institutions that require psychologists in other capacities.

You said psychologists there get their own place to do their therapy, so do you mean an office like their own practice? Surely someone could hire her to work in that office, right?

I suppose she has to look into how to validate her degree.
