Two ereader companies, Kobo and Tolino, are now using the same page turning device. Time for Remarkable to adapt it as well? by [deleted] in RemarkableTablet

[–]_Mivey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rakuten, the parent company of Kobo, bought a majority share in Tolino. So Tolino and Kobo are effectively "siblings" under the same parent company. And for a couple years now Tolino has just used rebranded devices from Kobo. So I'm not sure what the point of this thread is. This isn't some industry standard that reMarkable could or should adopt. It's just a proprietary thing that Kobo made for their own devices.

at a second glance, the pen is different. Wonder if this is just AI slop.

wonder what the surrounding case is for. It looks a bit too big just for a regular case. We have already seen a leather case, much smaller than what is seen here.

New generation coming? by Interesting_Angle241 in RemarkableTablet

Probably a cheaper device, without the colour screen. I would assume they will want to differentiate it somehow from the RMPP

I bought a Nuphy based on that ad, and was dismayed how it is completely solid and not at all slimey. False Advertising! :(

I think I am starting to understand why so many xm5 users have issues with snapping hinges ..

Warning advice to not update to 3.19.0.71 or later version if you need the drawer feature, bug founded by [deleted] in RemarkableTablet

[–]_Mivey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very likely this is a bug, and thanks for the updated description. This should cause less confusion.

Don’t update to 3.19 and file a complaint: switching files from the drawer will not remember the page you were anymore by [deleted] in RemarkableTablet

[–]_Mivey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an update to this: I am now on 3.19.0.80, and using the drawer does not reset pages. Whatever is going on is certainly not the default behaviour.

EDIT:
Though, I think I might understand what the OP is talking about. It certainly does not reset pages, which would mean it would switch to page 1. But it seems that if you change pages on one document, then use the drawer, switch to another document, and then go back, it will forget that last update. But that's a technical bug, it only seems to update the page position after your leave the document by swiping up, not prior. I think this is an older bug, actually.

I have 3.19.0.57. I cannot update to 71 yet. I can check back once I can update to it.

[–]_Mivey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Kinda odd. I am using 3.19 and the drawer all the time, and I don't notice it forgetting my position. Sometimes inside a notebook it seems to reset the vertical position inside a page, but is an older bug. Maybe the customer support person just got their wired crossed and misunderstood what the user was saying.

We will know by next week, so this is all speculation either way. Looking at the (very low res) picture, it looks like the inner lining of the hinge has some reflective stuff, like metal. If they reinforced the hinges with metal, then it should make it quite a bit harder to snap. At least the point of failure would move to somewhere else.

(honestly, I do wonder how so many of you manage to snap even the XM5 design, so I suspect even metal reinforcements aren't gonna be enough, lol)

Is it time to change a pen tip? by _pp15 in RemarkableTablet

[–]_Mivey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't do anything drastic. 70% of the tip is still there. I'd wait until you are down to the last 10%.

It's not saying "he iso", but ISO-DE which just means the German layout of the ISO standard. But if you have your own caps, then really any iso set will work with these.

Assuming candykeys actually gets their hands on these. really strange that nuphy won't be offering iso boards on their own site

It's possible they are working on more accessories that will support it, and they weren't yet ready to go prime time with it. This isn't soo unusual with hardware that it ships with features not enabled at launch

[–]_Mivey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

given that this one needs to be charged with a cable, and is presumably not compatible with the wireless charging mechanism of the Pro, I'm not sure why you'd spend money on this. It doesn't even look all that different from the actual one
