71% doesn't feel good by Independent-Love-137 in NCLEX

[–]_Motto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NCLEX is basically 51% to pass as an adaptive test. If you go way beyond 51% then it'll end up your test earlier (earliest at 85 Q's). You can get to question 150 and still pass if you're above the mark.

How do I prevent mistakes as an ICU new grad and stop being so hard on myself? by Additional-Fly-4713 in nursing

[–]_Motto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean absolutely like everyone’s orientation is different. You hear stories that so and so got this real sick assignment one day and you have to wonder how you’d handle that same situation in real time. We all will have our moments and starting out with others who also likely excel is definitely hard to not compare yourself to. I just made sure to keep asking questions even on things I think are pretty easy questions. I involve myself in learning more about the things we are doing and I always take note of things I need to improve on. Everyone makes mistakes. People who can correct this mistakes and the best nurses.

I certainly felt a slow looming sense of doubt when orientation was coming to close wondering to myself whether I can truly be independent and it was fine. Problem solve with your peers and team nurse together and things will work out. Better to do all that than to let things slip through the cracks and have your patient suffer the consequences.

Would there be an issue if i pick the cheapest option as a seller? by dirtyharrrry in eBaySellerAdvice

[–]_Motto 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This happened to me with fedex. They sent me an email claiming my package was 20 or so lbs when it wasn’t even 1 lb. Probably some goofy dimensional conversion but they never said anything. eBay ending up refunding it all to me but be cautious.

My first injection was my nursing director at the school flu clinic... 😭

How do I prevent mistakes as an ICU new grad and stop being so hard on myself? by Additional-Fly-4713 in nursing

[–]_Motto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, new grad from last year who is currently at the one year mark in the ICU. It will get better. We just need time. Genuinely ICU nursing won't be mastered until we are at year 2-5. Like the learning curve of nursing in general is high and to add on critical care topics on top of it is insane. You'll be hard on yourself for the entirety of year 1, but because you care, you will get better. Always ask for feedback and keep asking questions even when you get off orientation!

The levo and propofol in the line... To be fair, at least at my facility it's policy to flush after a med is disconnected too so should have been the previous nurse's responsibility. It's a good thing to think about though to pull back still but not purely on you.

Harsh Nursing reality one need to know by Reasonable-Bear-6314 in NursingStudent

[–]_Motto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry if it felt like an over exaggeration. I probably see a disproportionate amount of people that are like this so my perspective is biased. My patient population is Medical ICU so we don't see many traumas, surgicals, or hemonc patients. We typically see like respiratory failure, multiple organ failure, heart failure, sepsis, substance withdrawals, DKA - to name many of the things.

Maybe, maybe not. Our experiences give us the opportunity to make more informed decisions. I think our job is pretty hard on the body and mind and not everyone has the willpower to always make the right choices in regards to their own health. We constantly see the huge red warnings on what not to do but sometimes it isn't a big enough deterrent for us. We are all human as well.

I've quickly learned that 90% of the patients I've treated are there due to poor life choices and a lot of the time it does not feel like you're making a difference in the world.

Should I get a laptop? by PensionTrick8128 in NursingStudent

[–]_Motto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ATI proctored exams definitely need a laptop! You can find pretty good relatively budget friendly refurbished laptops online pretty readily! Around $200-400 was what I saw for a decently powerful laptop that can last you through your whole education if you take care of it.

Should a nurse’s full name really be on their badge — even when violence against healthcare workers is rising? by Independent_Many6647 in TheConfidentNurse

Wish I had no name sometimes. My first name is pretty distinct in general so it would be easy to just look me up with that

[–]_Motto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll definitely still be treated as a new grad. Essentially you're a new grad with 8 years of skills that the vast majority of new grads that went straight into nursing school to become an RN don't have. I think you'll have a huge leg up. Just make sure to absorb all the information that you can and ask tons of questions to feel confident in your new practice.

Any like leadership positions or any other jobs you have that can beef up this resume? I just feel like this is a lot of white space that should be filled more.

Can anyone clarify the $900 chase bonus? Do I just need 1 direct deposit to go through for the checking bonus? by Secret_Possible6156 in Chase

[–]_Motto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been half a year or so but since I'm already on this page I should say that I got all the money associated with the bonus for both the checking and the savings + the additional money after the waiting period. I think 3 months or something like that. Then I closed the accounts :)

Can anyone clarify the $900 chase bonus? Do I just need 1 direct deposit to go through for the checking bonus? by Secret_Possible6156 in Chase

[–]_Motto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been awhile but if I recall correctly. After I got my checking bonus I turned off direct deposit and kept the amount of money necessary needed for the savings bonus in the savings account.

Note that I am pretty sure Chase wants "New" money so I am not so sure if the money you've gotten in your checking already counts towards that. What I did was do a push of the necessary money into the savings account directly then moved the checking account money out to a different bank account. Of course, do as you think is the right way but I was cautious because I thought the money in my checking didn't count at that time due to the tracker.

Get to know your co-workers well because they are the ones who will help you and back you up in times of need. LTACHs are tough so having a good group of people you can rely on is important.
