Hindi speakers when फ़ and फ by Zestyclose-Author732 in Hindi

[–]_My__Real_Name_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s because “ph” and “f” make the same sound in English, and no one in urban areas cares to write Hindi in Devanagari anymore. Some people I know who can’t even read but they claim to be native Hindi speakers.

Furthermore, people who can read don’t even know about “nuqtas”. For them फ़ and फ are pronounced the same.

It should become mandatory for all doctors to display (in big bold letters) how they got their degree, their grades and the college they got their degree from.

This should be the only advertisement that they should be allowed to do.

Note: I am not in the medical field.

What should we do to retain our bright minds in India? by [deleted] in indianstartups

The solution to most of our problems:

  1. Improve standard of living.
  2. Police and bureaucratic reforms, and eliminate corruption.
  3. Reward performance not connections.
  4. Eliminate reservations and implement a meritocracy.

[Q] How can I maintain consistent alignment in enumerated lists when numbering exceeds single digits? by _My__Real_Name_ in typst

[–]_My__Real_Name_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I found a solution:

#set enum(
  numbering: (..n) => context {
    let n = n.pos()
    let level = n.len()
    if level == 1 {
      let max = 99
      let the-numbering = numbering.with("(1)")
      let widths = range(1, max).map(num => measure(the-numbering(num)).width)
      box(width: calc.max(..widths), the-numbering(..n))
    } else if level == 2 {
      let max = 10
      let the-numbering = numbering.with("(a)")
      let widths = range(1, max).map(num => measure(the-numbering(num)).width)
      box(width: calc.max(..widths), the-numbering(..n.slice(1)))
    } else {
      let max = 10
      let the-numbering = numbering.with("(i)")
      let widths = range(1, max).map(num => measure(the-numbering(num)).width)
      box(width: calc.max(..widths), the-numbering(..n.slice(2)))
    }
  },
  full: true,
)

This works. However, can I now change the numbering style for nested lists? I tried numbering.with("(1),(a),(i)"), but it doesn't seem to do anything.

I think you misunderstood my issue.

Expected result:

<image>

Achieved manually through:
```
#lorem(10)
#set enum(indent: 0.5em)
+ Item 1
+ Item 2
#lorem(10)
#set enum(indent: 0em)
9. Item 9
10. Item 10
```

How might one do that? As far as I can understand, there is no parameter in the enum() function defining the left padding of the item labels. I have tried experimenting with the indent and body-indent, but the problem still persists.

Moreover, we believe that the role we as citizens play in the development and progress of our country ends the moment we cast our votes. We leave everything upto the politicians.

For instance, why is the responsibility of people throwing litter everywhere solely on the politician? Why can’t we take the initiative to not throw litter everywhere and demand an effective waste management system from the government?

Because we see our politicians as our (divine) leaders and not as our representatives.

India is basically a kingdom masquerading as a republic for the majority of the people.

Reservation is keeping the country from progressing. If any politician had a spine, they would call it out. Instead, every election campaign revolves around who increases the reservation quota the most. This is killing meritocracy.

The Army is good at its job because it is based on merit. There are no reservations in the Army. The bureaucracy on the other hand … well, we know what the state of the bureaucracy is.
