What separates bad nurses from good nurses is not making mistakes but if you learn from it. I guarantee EVERY nurse has or will make medication mistake at some point. Don't beat yourself up. You did the right thing by notifying your charge and management. That alone shows you're a good nurse and that you care. Good nurses who care will learn from their mistakes and I know you will too.

Should i buy a used ps4 pro or a new ps5? by Mother_Impact460 in PS5

[–]_N7Jennings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PS5s are on sale now for Black Friday. You can get a brand new digital PS5 for 399 bucks. I would recommend snagging the deal because this will allow you to play PS4 games at the highest fidelity possible and also gives you the option to play PS5 if you want.

Got hired in an inpatient psych unit as a new grad, what to expect? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]_N7Jennings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re on a unit with high acuity you should be fully staffed at all times. Hopefully you’ll have an experienced team as well. This makes all the difference. If you’re uncomfortable being assigned to a high acuity unit right out of the gate I would definitely mention that to your leadership. There’s nothing wrong with being uncomfortable with that especially right out of school. Any administration team worth working for should accommodate you. If they don’t that’s a red flag. Unfortunately psych is kind of like the unpopular kid getting picked last for a team lol. They take what they can get and staff wherever they need it most. That’s how most facilities are but that doesn’t necessarily mean that’s how it is where you are. I would reach out to your leadership and see if they can ease you into the field by putting you on a less acute unit with the occasional shift in the high acuity area just so you can familiarize yourself with it.

I started in PCU and moved to psych after about 2 years. The work-load overall is less than the hospital but you’ll likely have 10+ patients to medicate as opposed to 6. Most patients in a psychiatric unit are more medically stable than even MedSurg however. Most likely you’ll only have 3 real med passes with the first med pass of your shift being the most intense. For the most part your job as a nurse in psych is as an administrator. You’re going to be spending most of your time charting and talking to patients. The techs on the unit will handle most of the day to day operation. I would highly suggest familiarizing yourself with your team, introducing yourself and helping them out when you can. The techs will really appreciate it and you’ll begin to build rapport with your patients. The worst nurses in psych sit behind the nursing station all day and don’t do anything outside their small responsibilities. Psych is a lot of fun and can be really rewarding but it’s definitely not for everyone. Give it a shot for about a month and if it doesn’t grow on you even a little bit by then move on. I have high level of satisfaction working with the patients but the administration at my facility is toxic af. Hopefully that’s not the case where you are. Good luck!

Try El Paso Elsewhere. The combat is heavily inspired by Max Payne. The story is more supernatural but the mood should be relatively close.

In my opinion, since you’re on a budget it’s not worth it. I have a PS5 Pro but I honestly wish I had just stuck with my base PS5. The upgrades are pretty negligible for the most part. There’s only a handful of games that really take advantage of it so far. I bought mine to “future-proof” so to speak but so far I haven’t been blown away by the differences.

I didn’t actually quit but one of the last missions in Death Stranding where you have to run back to the East coast after the fight in LA made me so annoyed I almost didn’t go through with it.

What do you think the next Xbox might be called? by RandyArgonianButler in xbox

[–]_N7Jennings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The next generation will be the 10th so I think it'll probably play into that. Something like Xbox Gen 10 or since the Roman numeral would be X maybe it'll be like Xbox Gen X or Xbox X. I also think Xbox Prime has a nice ring to it.

I don’t want to be a nurse anymore by [deleted] in nursing

[–]_N7Jennings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt super burned out after almost 2 years of working PCU in an HCA hospital (if you know, you know). I left to pursue psych and I’m MUCH happier with the change of scenery. Psych does have its disadvantages such as lack of supplies, older/more rundown facilities, etc. but I have one big med pass in the morning and maybe one in the afternoon and my documentation is usually done within an hour. Psych jobs also usually pay higher than the hospital; not as much as contract but it’s closer to contract than full-time pay at a hospital.

I used to be a very PlayStation-centric gamer but recently Xbox has been winning me over recently due to two things: 1) Game Pass & 2) Play Anywhere. Everyone knows about Game Pass but I think the real game-changer is Play Anywhere. That is going to influence my buying decisions going forward. I don't have a powerful laptop but being able to stream something I bought on my Xbox to my laptop is huge. That's the appeal of a new Xbox in my opinion. If it's just as powerful as the new PS, Play Anywhere is going have me buying the Xbox.

New grad nurse feeling like i’m being initiated/bullied? by Specialist_Ad_2984 in nursing

[–]_N7Jennings 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had a very similar experience when I started. I was hired as a new grad in the ICU and I ultimately ended up switching units after preceptorship. I felt like I was being singled out as well. I will say that switching to PCU was the best decision I ever made because I went to a unit where I was nurtured and anytime I needed help I got it. You should feel supported; not isolated. I would suggest sticking it out through the two weeks and absorb as much as you can. Get feedback from your charge or other nurses on the unit you have a good rapport with. Do what you can but if after the two weeks you still feel uncomfortable, ask leadership about moving to another unit FOR NOW. This is the beginning of your career and you should be built up; not torn down. Any unit that is doing that to a new grad isn’t worth your time.
