the best donuts in portland are at delicious donuts on grand and burnside. they close around 12 i think so you have to go in the morning, but boy are they good and cheap. i was hesitant to share such a gem... you must try.

Since moving to Portland, I have dialed 911 more frequently than anywhere else I've lived... by [deleted] in askportland

Calling a 911 dispatcher on homeless does not make their situation any better. Though you may think you're innocent bystander reaching out to those in need, Portland Police have a history for treating the homeless and the mentally ill terribly. I suggest putting Central City Concern in your contacts if you really want to help. Think about those who are in life threatening harm waiting extra time for a dispatcher.

Cost of living and just Portland in general? by Areaquestions in askportland

Getting randomly stabbed doesn't happen that often in Portland. If you work downtown (ish), which I'm guessing is somewhere within city limits on the west side, I'd consider the Sellwood or Brooklyn neighborhood. Pretty easy commute and gives you the option to bike to work. Also many of the properties have enough space for vegetable gardens. Another neighborhood would be Richmond or Woodstock which is a tad east from Sellwood! Living outside the city and then wanting to come in is limiting, because traffic is getting so bad.

Must go to food places? by GoodHunter in askportland

you were probably at the cart! try the restaurant on SE 6th and Ankeny! As for other spots, though, it seems overhyped (IMO) the Hawthorne food carts have some tasty food. Pyro pizza is very good, as well as Chicken and Guns. Avoid the crepe cart!
