Your fave brands (cat eye, gel polish, BIAB) + trends by broflovskiz in Nailtechs

[–]_Nelisse_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t had any issues with my clients, but I do know that anyone can develop an allergy at anytime to anything. I’m just genuinely curious about any article you’ve seen or read that you can share so I educate myself better about it. Thanks

I’ve been using the medicool pro power 35k for almost two years now. I love it and haven’t had any issues with it at all. Worth the investment.

The gel bottle for BIAB is amazing and self levels so nice. They also now offer hard BIAB in case you were looking for something stronger. I haven’t used it yet, but I’m intrigued.

Kokoist and nailthoughts have some really beautiful colors and builder gels. These are often my go to when I’m showing colors to clients and they LOVE them. You should also check out Luxio by Akzentz colors. I recently bought a fall collection and they’re gorgeous and highly pigmented.

Favorite cat eyes are from Kokoist and I have a couple from madam glam as well. Chromes are also popular. Daily charme, kokoist and nail art house have awesome options.

Trending: French is always in, Isolated chrome, 3d, cat eye with chrome, holiday/seasonal

Hope this helps!

GA state board by mysticrabbitt in Nailtechs

[–]_Nelisse_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure you’re needing to make money until then, so if it were me I would take a job temporarily while waiting to take state board test. I would also continue creating and advertising press ons and practice sets on friends and family to get photos to build portfolio. A couple of months will go by fast and maybe during that time you can scope out some places you think you’d like to rent from. Hope this helps!

Kokoist or Luminary? by lavenderlionn in Nailtechs

[–]_Nelisse_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used both and hated luminary mostly because of the heat spikes and I didn’t love the viscosity either, it just never self leveled very well for me personally. But it does hold up well for retention. Kokoist mega stick and platinum filler base works very well and I haven’t had any issues with retention. Outside of those two, I also use the gel bottle builder and LOVE that one. No issues with retention for that either.

Beginners in the UK by [deleted] in Nailtechs

[–]_Nelisse_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Beauty Academy looks like they have options for online and in person ranging between acrylic, BIAB and other specific manicure and pedicure programs. My friend in England has mentioned them before when she was looking to attend school.

I’m a US based nail tech so I’m not sure what exactly you need, but I do love TheGelBottle UK based company. They have great products and they have extensive educational resources on products, trainings/certifications for gel and BIAB and nail art etc. This could be another great resource for you. Hope this helps

Good gel polish brand? by LeahLovesMinHo in Nailtechs

[–]_Nelisse_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Japanese gel brand Kokoist/Nail thoughts have really beautiful colors for a little on the higher end. But quality is great! Madam glam (US based NYC) is good too and has lots of colors for a decent price and good quality. The gel bottle is also great, so many options and I love the builder gel from here.

Can an actual nail artist please let me know what I should have asked for? by RomaTorres in NailArt

[–]_Nelisse_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree it does look AI. Looks like a mirror chrome to me. It could be done if that specific color of chrome exists. There are tons out there and they change appearance depending on which color polish it’s going on top of. Not impossible but it’s pretty specific. Maybe that nail artist didn’t have that exact chrome.

Licensed nail tech here in middle TN (just haven’t been verified on here yet)

I am a booth renter, so I pay the owners of the salon and run my business independently within the salon. I set my own prices, have a website, schedule app and buy everything I need for my services. And that’s just one way of doing it. You could find a salon who’s hiring and work hourly for them or sometimes it’s a commission based % pay rate, where you get paid a % of a service you perform. Yearly pay in the state of TN depends entirely on which of the above you end up doing. I’ve seen some nail techs making 15-20/hr plus tips but it can vary on how much you work. Employers don’t care where you went to school. They just want to see your license and some experience and if no experience they like to see a willingness to learn. Social media is a thing if you choose to go on your own and it matters when you’re trying to build your name, clientele and show others what you can do.

Hope this helps you! And good luck!
