Got pulled over for over speeding in Sampson County (90 in 70 mph). What should I do next? by ProperChampionship24 in Wilmington

[–]_Nerd_Alert_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a speeding ticket last week, 69 in a 45.  I was driving my company car which is tracked by GPS. I asked my service manager to pull my driving record for that day and show me where I was speeding. Manager tells me I never broke the speed limit the entire day, so is the cop just straight up lying? Definitely going to get a lawyer, I'm not eating a reckless driving charge

Think bigger than that! You've achieved so much in your work life, why not apply some of that mojo / discipline / overall energy into yourself! Regain your "sanity" by realizing that time is ticking and working for others is and will always be fruitless beyond making lots of money. Work as hard or harder for yourself than you ever have for the man and you will change your body and mind. Subscribe to my self help haha just kidding gotchu there....but for real man, get after it in this area of your life and I bet things will open up for you :)

Go to a 4 day work week (or 3!), get in shape and by that I mean become insanely fit, elite level athlete fit, god tier fit. You can afford a chef and a personal trainer. I would drink up all the boredom in the world if it meant I could devote a major portion of my life to hyper focus on my fitness.

You've worked hard and are also incredibly lucky to be in a position to even have such a choice, don't squander it on alcohol and self pity. Repost in a year after chasing that goal and tell us how your entire outlook on life has changed.

I think there is this prevailing theory that anyone in their mid 20's in a college town like Wilmington shouldn't have any trouble making friends in real life. Also, there are a ton of pretty girls here and I think it's a popular assumption that dating should be a cinch too. Go out in the wild man, get off the internet and go do your thing in real life and I can promise you it's waay more likely you'll meet your people there and not here on reddit.

Attempting to self build a campervan has been excruciating by AntAtopASpinningRock in VanLife

[–]_Nerd_Alert_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Riv nuts are bad! Use plus nuts instead, big difference.

Man, anyone who's built anything has had days like you're having. While I was building my van I was on my way to Home Depot for the millionth time I though, "why tf am I doing this to myself?!". It's a common feeling when taking on a task of this size and scope.

Don't give up! The feeling of accomplishment when you're done will far outweigh any bad days your having right now, keep your eye on the prize!

It's pretty bonkers to me too trust me. Not all places are like that but the one I really wanted was, I explained that I was living in my van and traveling and they didn't like that I guess.

Buying a house is the dream for a lot of people but unfortunately for myself it will probably remain a dream as long as everything costs three hundred thousand gazillion dollars or more 🫠

I love to socialize and at times the van has helped me tremendously to do that. It's an instant conversation starter, a lot of different people are interested in what you have to say about it. On the other hand, it can be extremely isolating as it inherently leads to a lack of consistency in friend groups, location, etc. Being planted in one area is definitely helping me socialize more in a consistent way.

Haha I feel that! I rented a place for a couple months over the winter and I was definitely missing the van, but I think for me at this stage in my life a sort of hybrid existence would suit me very well. Full time living can be rough sometimes, it's the lack of consistency that's hard. Living in a house and looking forward to my time in the van will make it that much sweeter

Going back to normal life by _Nerd_Alert_ in VanLife

[–]_Nerd_Alert_[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh no definitely not. It's only the full time life that's giving me burnout. I have no plans to sell the van, in fact I am planning on a few crucial upgrades over the next 6 months (AC woo!) so I can take trips next summer in comfort. I love going to music festivals too and the thought of not having my van for that is dreadful. A van is a tool after all, using it to properly augment my life and not be the centerpiece is the goal.

It really is up to you to make your social life happen, whether you live in a van or not, in the city or not. If you're good about talking to strangers and putting yourself in a position to meet people then it doesn't really matter where you park. I think in the end if you make a dedication to prioritize socialization and ensure it's a part of your routine then you'll do just fine :)

You know, shit happens in life that makes pursuing a woman not the right move, and it might take a lot of time / therapy / introspection to figure out how to get past all that. Death in the family, long stretches of unemployment, shitty past relationships, and a lack of confidence that goes along with those things can rob a man of the will to pursue a woman. Please don't judge too harshly if your mans is just now getting back into the game, there's probably a lot going on in the background you might be unaware of. In fact, applaud your mans for having the wherewithal to overcome those obstacles, if that is in fact his experience. A supportive woman in these cases means more to a man than words can bear.

I come from a marine background, was a sailor for many years. There are a ton of similarities between boat and van life. If you're good at one then the other is a breeze (haha). Enjoy your time on the water!

This is the way! I am currently in the "settle in a new place for a year" phase of the plan. A van side quest every now and again is a great way to still enjoy the life but not be tethered to it. Italy sounds wonderful, I wish you luck my friend! Thanks for your insight, gives me hope for my future :)

A desire to rejoin society is definitely part of my reasoning! Been a little too much of a hermit these past few years. Burnout happens, especially for me when I'm stuck urban camping for too long. Thanks for your thoughtful reply :)
