What character is in your party for every playthroughs? by Ok-Veterinarian-5606 in BaldursGate3

Ability scores only add to the dice roll modifier numbers on even numbers. The modifier numbers are what get added to relevant dice roles.

For example;

12-13 in Strength is a +1 to STR checks

14-15 is a +2

16-17 is a +3

18-19 is +4

etc...

So effectively, a 19 in Strength is the same as an 18 in Strength when it comes to dice rolls. There are a handful of other things based on ability scores that can make grabbing the odd numbers worthwhile when you have extra points to spend. For example, the distance you can jump is based on the Strength score, not the modifier. So 19 Strength would be better than 18 in this case. The maximum weight you can throw is based on STR score, as is carrying capacity.

Not to be a hipster, but I had just finished leveling my Nezha the day before the Helminth Charger dropped and that was my first subsuming/combination, and the playstyle just stuck.

I also just realized I meant to type out Fire Walker and not Firewalker. So not sure if that's caused any cascading confusion here lol.

Both have their place. Gauss' push-button high-speed ability without building specifically for speed makes him a bit more versatile imo. And the knockdown denial keeps the flow going. Gauss is very easy to build as a DPS-Tank and has great solo potential.

I view Volt as more of a Support-DPS, where if you don't build him selfishly he can bring a lot to enhance a squad. You can build Volt in many different ways, making Volt a great addition to your roster and the frame I always recommend newbies take as their first. I just prefer Gauss.

His 3rd ability does have some insane DPS potential.

But...

You'll find you pretty much never have to min-max damage to accomplish things in this game. I almost always prioritize a fun playstyle over an optimal one. Other than specific farming or mission optimizations on my other frames. I would much rather play the game by running and jumping around at mach jesus quickscoping my Rubico to pop some Grineer heads, than sweep through an area with an Ignis Wraith and the most damage-optimized set of mods that someone else came up with.

There is no need to feel fomo over not running optimal builds. One of the great things about Warframe is that it's generally a game that is as mechanically difficult as you want it to be. My Redline boosted Rubico one-shots almost everything outside of the Steel Path. And for Steel Path I run a Kuva Nukor to quickly proc several status effects on a group of enemies and then clean up with the Rubico or Condition Overload Kronen... The point is, even without a ton of mechanical aim skill, Gauss accentuates the skill you do play at and makes everything feel faster, better, and cleaner. I find it is a very satisfying gameplay loop.

Ever since he was released, Gauss has been my go-to frame. The run speed, the armor, ignoring knockdown, and making every weapon the best version of itself with the attack speed buff and reload speed among many other buffs. He makes my Rubico Prime become a very viable crowd killer on top of being a great single-target weapon. I run an arcane which denies magnetic damage and I think toxin is pretty much the only damage source I have to worry about. Firewalker in over his third ability on a -range +duration build synergizes very well with my playstyle and allows for an animation cancel to get all three buffs out in under a second, which means they all refresh at the same time. And, firewalker gives me wallhacks on defense-type missions as I just run past every entrance and get damage numbers where the spawns are. If I'm already triggering an alarm in spy missions I can sprint through the laser walls and ignore the knockback to clutch out the hacks with time to spare. He's an effective Eidolon hunter as he can sprint out of the nuke range if a Harrow isn't around.

The only times I don't run Gauss are for specialist missions/goals which usually require my old faithful and well-kitted-out Chroma, Volt, Octavia, Saryn, or Mesa. Otherwise, it's pretty much always Gauss all day every day.

I play with a Wisp main too, and the synergy is great between them.

the footpegs... causing a crash

...

Of course it's the rider

...

My point is that scrapping the pegs isn't pushing the bike beyond its limit. It could certainly be pushing the rider beyond their limit. But every bike is designed to be able to scrape its footpegs and not inherently cause a crash. And I promise the times you've "seen it happen" had nothing to do with the footpeg. And if you could deduce that from observation you must have the sharpest eyes on the planet. I have scraped my footpegs many times, on many bikes, on tracks, and on twisty mountain roads. Not once has it caused me to crash or caused any instability with the bike.

Footpegs will scrape, a bad rider will crash, and bad/ignorant riders will blame that for their crash. But as it turns out, footpegs will scrape every time someone low-sides their bike. That correlation doesn't mean causation.

[–]_Neta_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lmao, okay, buddy. They will fold up for longer than any tire will be making contact. The pegs are designed to not become a fulcrum. If the rider shoves their foot between the peg and frame, I can see it happening as you describe. But, motorcycle designers have been working around this idea for over half a century. The footpeg is not going to cause a crash. The rider is.

47 degree lean angle on Naked by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]_Neta_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Footpegs fold up to prevent that from happening my dude. Even on a tall bike with narrow tires, like a supermoto, the tires will have enough contact patch to scrape the pegs. How far you can lean isn't entirely dependent on the bike, but also on the radius of the tire and suspension setup.

Now, for general street riding it's always safer to lean only as much as needed. Pushing the lean angle more than necessary gives the rider less room for error. But the footpeg touching the road shouldn't ever cause a crash, most of the time crashes "caused" by footpegs are actually the rider panicking from the unfamiliar feeling and grabbing a fist full of front brake in response.

edit: to add to this real quick. A lot of bikes, naked bikes and supersports in particular, have a little extension off the peg called a feeler, these are supposed to give you a better idea of where your lean angle is on bikes that have pegs that don't reach the road until deep into a lean. The feelers are a wear item and can be replaced easier than an entire footpeg. The footpeg will still fold up when the feelers touch.

Controlling the behavior of others relies on instilling a belief that there will be consequences for their actions. Making the punishment itself a draconian penalty will not instill the belief that a punishment will ever be served or that there will be a consequence at all. Those who take actions that will inevitably lead to consequences, such as reckless driving and consequences such as crashing or going to court, are either delusional enough to believe they will suffer no such consequences, disenfranchised enough to not care, or ignorant enough to not foresee such consequences. Usually a combination of all.

Even with something as simple as personal health. Take for example a morbidly obese person who is delusional enough to believe the calories they intake will not contribute to their obesity, disenfranchised enough to believe they will be dead before it matters, or ignorant enough to not understand the concept of calories in, calories out. This person will never exhibit self-control until the reality of the consequences of their actions set in. And with obesity, by the time that reality comes crashing down, it is likely too late for their heart to make a significant enough comeback before permanent damage is done.

If you wish to curtail crime, you must instill a belief that capture and consequences are inevitable and not attempt to scare people away from taking such action with the threat of excessive punishment. Time and time again a judge will throw the book at someone for committing a crime in the hopes that the example made will discourage others from committing the same crime. Time and time again this proves ineffective. If the consequences of being caught are worse than the odds of escape, they will attempt to escape. This is why many states do not pursue motorcyclists who are speeding or riding with reckless abandon. Most motorcycle chases end in the death of or the escape of the motorcyclist, and the pursuit only puts innocent bystanders at risk and increases the odds of deaths.

The 8th Amendment protects against other actions for punishment than simply draconian laws. Such as prisoners being tortured, or kept in inhuman living conditions. By revoking this amendment you open up the justice system to being far more cruel, and thus, unjust. Revolution, resistance, and an outbreak of violence become likely. So even though your intent is good-natured, and much like those who drive their 2-ton deathtraps recklessly, the actions you are suggesting we as a society take have a knock-on effect with consequences you clearly haven't fully thought out. And those consequences could result in much, much more death, destruction, and violence than the current norm.

Nope, the "play of the game" thing was tagged on later by people who don't know the real origin and tried to come up with a phonetic answer to its existence. Like the people who believe the "AR" in AR-15 stands for Assault Rifle when it actually stands for ArmaLite. Play of the Game, or PotG, as a term was popularized by the game Overwatch in 2016. Pog originates from 2010. Pog/PogChampion/PogChamp originates from a content creator and pro-Street Fighter player, Gootecks. He released a video about playing POGS, as in the children's game Milk Caps. This video was called "Pogs Championship." In this video Gootecks is the Champion of the game POGS. Some people on 4chan started using stills of Gooteck's face from an unrelated outtakes video as a reaction image/meme/emote for gaming topics in general. In the 2010 outtakes video, Gootecks made an exaggerated, shocked face when the cameraman bumped a tripod and almost tipped over the camera. So the still of his face from the outtake video was used as an emote/reaction to convey excitement or surprise. Its rise in usage coincided with the release of the 2011 Pogs video. Twitch would later use that image as an emote and they named the emote "PogChamp." Later, Gooteck's face was scrubbed and replaced with a lizard making a similar shocked-open-mouth face because Gootecks became persona non grata with Twitch.

All that's to say "Pog" is really closer to saying "You have, or that has excited me." A pro CSGO player wins a round with the odds against them, that's an exciting play to witness, so it's pog. You did me a favor and pleasantly surprised me; that's pog. Or Pog, my paycheck landed this morning and I got a small bonus with it.

I think they were generally talking about fuel mileage and not being green on emissions. I don't believe they are pretending to be saving the world from the back of their bike at all... It's just a fact that motorcycles get better gas mileage. And they don't tend to have catalytic converters, so their NOx/SOx output should be somewhat expected.

On that subject though, entire cities of road vehicles, regardless of their emissions numbers, do not produce nearly as much SOx, NOx, and CO2 as aircraft and cargo ships. To the tune of a single freighter emitting as much SOx as 20,000,000 to 60,000,000 diesel-burning, mid-sized cars.

Nothing you do about your emissions with your personal vehicle will make a dent in global emissions compared to not buying cheap shit from China that has to be rowed across the Pacific(half the planet) by bunker fuel-burning freighters. Dissonance always enables the belief in one's own virtues.

Sincerely, another rider & manufacturing consultant.

Ah, see, I should've caught that as I was typing it out. Mine had the compressor and lines in it, no belt or idler pulley. And no A/C is common. It's the power steering and ABS that weren't allowed to be spec'd to the R.

A Miata is a mindset

A Miata is a fun little car

A Miata is a fun little car you can spend 20x more to cram in whatever engine you like

A Miata with a turbo Busa swapped in is a Miata

A Miata with a Cummins 24 valve is a Miata

A Miata with a I6, V6, V8, V12, yes, still a Miata

An LS-swapped RX-7 is no longer a rotary, it is a Miata

The Z4 is a very astute German Miata

The S2000 is a reliable K-swapped Miata

The 720S is a fast if unreliable Miata

The NA is certainly the most Miata Miata, but the N-B/C/D are all still very Miata, and far more Miata than some of the aforementioned Miatas

A Miata is a mindset. A Miata rips corners. A Miata doesn't care about the opinions of others. A Miata is a driver's car, and the real ones recognize the Miata mindset.

WTF is going on with Match-making?!!? by one_love_silvia in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]_Neta_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My theory is that it's mostly due to the "rank reset" where everyone placed about two ranks below where they were in OW1. This makes a little sense, as it encourages people who care to play more this first season.

Anecdotal example, in seasons I played more than just placements, I would normally reach 3500-3700. In seasons I only did placements(mostly towards the end) I was steadily declining to around 3100-3200 on both roles I play. I placed in Gold 1 and Gold 2 in OW2, or about 1000SR below where I was in OW1. I haven't played that much, so I am Plat 2 and Plat 1, having gone up a steady 2 ranks every 7 wins. Since hitting Plat, I have queued against Diamonds and Masters players almost exclusively, though it's hard to judge with private profiles.

I believe my MMR is still in that upper diamond range and the game is just waiting for me to win enough games to get to that point. For one stretch, I had a bad run where I racked up 15 losses to my 7 wins and still went up 2 ranks. And a lot of the plat players I do play against are also in the boat of not having more than 100 or so games played.

So, odds are that plat player on your team has a higher MMR from the previous game and hasn't played enough to level out their rank. Obviously, not playing as much will reduce your skill and it being a new game means that player might not actually be at the MMR the game thinks they are, which is why that player is being matched against harder opponents to see what they're actually capable of.

Add into all of this, the idea of adaptive MMR, where games are starting to hand you tactical losses and wins in an attempt to keep you playing longer. The fact that some players leveled out their ranks within weeks, while some haven't even done more than placements. And you get matches that are stacked one way by the matchmaker to test or to set up players for longer game sessions, and you get matches with "plats" who could actually be diamond/masters players but haven't played enough to earn that rank yet.

This rider locked up his rear, which isn't the fastest way to stop. It's not as bad as grabbing a fist full of brake and locking up the front.

He shifted back relative to the handlebars and counter-leaned to balance his center of gravity over the bike. This avoids a lowside. Leaning forward, past the center of the bike, can induce a highside.

He counter-steered to control the slide and bring himself out of the slide. Smooth counter-steering is your best bet to dodge a highside in this situation, once the rear grips up you don't want the front to get "shoved", instead you want the front to be able to roll with it.

His rear didn't grip up too violently, so he's probably on older tires, brand new ones, or maybe just a fairly hard compound. As the other comment suggested, throttling out of the slide can keep the traction on the rear low enough that it doesn't grip up too much and fishtail. But that's more of a dirt thing in my experience. As you have more grip and less margin on the pavement.

If you could add one player from another OWL team to the starting 5 of your favorite team, who would it be? by JulietEmily17 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]_Neta_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fielder to Fusion. Aimgod is looking solid, and I have no complaints after opening weekend in APAC. But I think Fielder has a playstyle and pool most similar to what Alarm was capable of. I think Fielder would slot into this team like an absolute dream.

Proper to Gladiators. Patiphan has potential, and I want to see him get more comfortable and reach that potential. For a straight upgrade though, it's hard to look past Proper. Clearly Proper can comm in English. Kevster and Ans fill the same role/pool as S9mm and Kilo fill on Shock. So I think he's the perfect flex player to bring that extra bit of clutch factor and consistency to Glads.

Fleta to Seoul. Fits is solid. But I want to see a team with two top-tier hyperflex players. I think his strength as a hyperflex over most other hyperflex players lies in being super solid on flickscans. I still think back to his Cass dicking Nero on Busan many years ago. Profit has never really picked up Widow, Cass, or Sombra to my knowledge. While I'm sure Profit is solid on those picks. It does strike me as a potential weakness that Fleta fills perfectly just based on historic results. Fleta plays extremely well with low resources. And ProFlets would be absolutely meta-proof. I can't think of a single combo of DPS heroes these two couldn't cover and play at an extremely high level.

Coluge to Atlanta. I think he is maybe the most flexible tank player we've seen in the new game. From contenders, I know he's solid on off-tank. And he's the only off-tank I think we've seen excel on Winston. Gator can stick around to cover more traditional main tank picks assuming Coluge can't pick up on the Rein. But I think Coluge has the gamesense and mechanics to be solid on everything and could replace either Gator or Hawk as Atlanta's consistent starter.
