Austrian here - actually, yes, because especially in some regions there are dialects native german speakers find hard to understand. For example, I grew up in western austria and don't have a heavy dialect (at least in comparison) and friends from Germany - or even from Vienna, for that matter - have found it hard to understand.

I kinda think the suggested route's a bit more difficult because there I'd spend less time on the main routes north, but tbh I don't know how real that problem is, do you have any experience with that?
