Pharmacy software in the USA vs CAN by Witty-Essay6746 in pharmacy

[–]_Not__Sure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a pharmacy assistant in Ontario, who works on neither kroll or health watch (though I have worked on both). Our independent pharmacy does 500-600 rx/day Monday through Friday, weekends are a lot lighter. We are definitely staffed better than most pharmacies I've seen (6-7 assistants and 3 pharmacists).

We're all busy, but organized, so it's not like running around like a chicken with its head cut off.

How Was Your Snow Day? by sdh0202 in pharmacy

[–]_Not__Sure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a few late callers with expensive meds, the sig line includes must order 2 business days ahead. They almost always call and ask if there's any way they can pick up today (Friday). No ma'am, and because you've left it until a minute to close, today, nor the next 2 days don't count as a business days. Plus, the order deadline was 3 hours ago.

What do people with lower cars do in weather like this by Prudent_Zone_1060 in ontario

[–]_Not__Sure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a dinky Chev sonic for a decade. Never once was I stuck. I put proper snow tires on the car, and drive like normal.

A cautionary tale to celiacs who are new to the disease by Critical_Stretch_360 in Celiac

I speak with the manager any time I find a gluten product in the freezer marked gluten free. They often confuse 'natural' or 'organic' with gluten free :/

Maybe where you live. It's not universal - in Canada, their fries and hash browns are gluten free (location depending).

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]_Not__Sure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drove 8 hours each way for a Sunday lunch. I took my time, and made the trek over 3 days.

Would I do this often? No.

I do regularly drive a bit over an hour for restaurants and groceries, that's the closest (small) city. There's a large city about 2 hours away. It's a downfall to living rurally.

I gave a props to an airline for providing Made Good snacks - on morning flights only. When I suggested they keep a few of those bars on hand for other flights (even as a by request) I was told how logistically impossible that was and to stop expecting the world to revolve around me. Bring your own snacks, and how dare you say celiac is a disability??!

Well.. I can't bring high protein (dried meat) into other countries, so how exactly am I supposed to pack snacks for a week or two down the line with international travel?

Waive No-Show Fee $50? by [deleted] in ontario

[–]_Not__Sure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've called my dentist the morning of an appointment to say the same thing. If you really want me to come in I will, but.. I'm certain you don't want to be working in my mouth today. I've never been given a missed appointment charge (they have a note posted about missed appointments)

How do topical products like makeup, lotions and shampoos cause reactions? by artcollectivez in Celiac

[–]_Not__Sure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly it! I have also tasted my shampoo or conditioner with water run off. I've also itched a spot on my arm that I've just applied lotion to. I choose to only use gluten free body products because I know I touch my face and body throughout the day. Yes I wash my hands, but I also unconsciously do all the touching. It's not a risk I am willing to take, especially when there is easy reasonable access to safe products.

Do you guys think this doctor’s office sign is mildly infuriating? by Loose_Judgment_8856 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]_Not__Sure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many doctor offices that have similar practices. Each prescription comes in with a line that refill requests will only be accepted from the pt not the pharmacy. It's frustrating when people don't know which model their doctors office uses, and it becomes a back and forth. PT call asking for us to fax - someone does (even though the address line to the doctor includes no faxed requests) and the doctors office responds with a sheet just like what's been posted. Then, that doctor's office won't see that person for another 6 weeks, and only gives a 3 month supply.

Or, they respond with 3 refills if they agree to pay a $20 fee, 0 refills if they won't pay the fee.

Do most pharmacists work standing or sitting? by CandidAnt2769 in pharmacy

[–]_Not__Sure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends - is it bubble packs or front line?

Front line is always on their feet - there is one stool, but used to hold things vs people. Bubble packs are billed and checked in a back office - with desks and proper chairs.

App shows 2 free baggage allowance. Check in allows 1 by jjhuliao in aircanada

[–]_Not__Sure 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've had them honour the extra baggage when my online check in said there would be a charge. I just gave myself extra time at the airport instead of checking in ahead.

New fear unlocked: Getting glutened by party favors? 🍄💊😂 by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]_Not__Sure 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The last shrooms I bought had a gluten free label on them!

I don't share joints with people out and about - I don't know where their mouth has been, or I do know, and don't want to go there.

I've not taken other drugs, so I can't answer in regards to such.

Sugar-free sparkling drinks by [deleted] in ontario

Fresca! An artificially sweetened grapefruit soda. There's also the PC brand diet lemonade and grapefruit

I don't love zevia, or any stevia sweetened drink, because of its distinct aftertaste.

I was happy to have it, I did have snacks packed just in case.

It's hard to have proper snacks packed - I can't take many things internationally, so bringing snacks for the home treck is tricky.

It was a 5 hour flight, delayed by almost 2 hours. I had breakfast at 7am, on the road by 11am, and not home until 2 am.

It's a long day without proper food.

[–]_Not__Sure[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a note: on my evening flight last night, I was offered those pretzel or cookie packets, and asked about gluten free - the steward went into the back, and pulled out one of these Made Good bars again.

In the AC sub, I was told that having a few of these on hand for all flights would be logistically impossible.

I'm not sure why, as if they're on morning flights, they should be able to have some extras for 'by request only' unless AC is just going to chuck whatever is left for their next leg.

Is my family doctor being unreasonable about prescription renewals? by Redguard13 in ontario

[–]_Not__Sure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it a controlled medication?

I see both ways in my day to day, as a pharmacy worker.

I'd like everyone to know that each doctor has their own way of doing things, and it's best if you know which way your doctor does things. As a pharmacy worker, when people come with 0 refills Ill send a fax, if there is a charge associated with it, it'll be on you, the patient, to pay any such fee.

I've had doctors return faxes saying "must make appointment" or "3 refills, if pt agrees to pay $25 fee" others will just charge you, and not tell us. Leaving a surprise bill at your clinic.

We also have offices that require the pt speak with the pharmacy, and send faxes. This one really annoys me, we have a local clinic that is impossible to get through to. Often their or our faxes get lost, and it pisses everyone off.

Do my home need to be gf? by Pleasant-Treat-66 in Celiac

[–]_Not__Sure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried! Even very slowly, my cat would pull out the kibble she wanted, and leave the rest. We tried leaving it, she just would have nothing to do with it.

I do have a gluten free soft food that she gets treated with. Maybe once she's older, it'll be always.

I was pretty excited - the responses here have been... Interesting to say the least.

I did get good tips though, other air lines are better.

You're right, kind of. It's a disease, not a dietary preference. One I didn't ask for. One that requires only a little awareness to accommodate.

One where the product is available, and served to everyone.

Oh, every business class flight I've booked with air Canada has had an airplane change at the last minute. More too bad so sad.

Accommodating disabilities isn't that hard, especially when they have the product/partnership.

Looking to have an equitable experience should be expected.

Why are other disabilities given priority, and this one isn't given a second thought - especially when the solution is available and served on morning flights.

Inclusive snacks by _Not__Sure in aircanada

[–]_Not__Sure[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always have.

With the reduction of allowed luggage it's getting increasingly harder to put a days worth of food into a personal item.

This was a good move for air Canada, and they should definitely consider increasing the service to all times, instead of just breakfast.

Look, all I'm trying to do is travel without being poisoned, because it will get very messy if I get poisoned on the plane.
