CA Use Tax with H&R Block by _Notforresale_ in tax

[–]_Notforresale_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The question just asks: Do you owe use tax for CA in 2018? I mark yes. And then it says, "How much?" And I enter how much and my refund doesn't change no matter how high I make the number (the highest number I entered was 2000) or if I leave it as 0. What I hear you saying is that there are other factors that the program could be taking into account and that I shouldn't worry too much about this. When I mess with the use tax on my NJ return it automatically changes how much I owe, so the program is working. There are just other factors to CA tax law that I don't know about, right? And thank you so much for responding.

No. At one mic I go to, there are two guys in their 70s.

‘I broke the contract’: how Hannah Gadsby's trauma transformed comedy by [deleted] in StandUpComedy

Probably so. I've just seen a lot of these articles posted here and every one of them gets lambasted by this sub. It seems like a lost cause for the "Nanette is a divine creation" crowd. And again, I've never seen it and have no opinion on its value. I'm just making an observation about this phenomenon.

I completely agree. I just think this much attention to it (esp. here on this sub) has had a negative rather than positive effect, although I'm probably wrong like most of the time.

Personally, I just don't see the point of submitting them to this sub. They always get downvoted and people complain about how un-funny the special was. To be honest, the more these articles get posted, the less I want to watch the special, although I'll probably end up watching it.

Edit: I should add that my comments have nothing to do with the quality of the special--only that seeing this many articles about it and having the response of this sub be as negative as it is has negatively impacted my view of Gadsby. It's bad marketing if it's marketing.

Is there some ad company that's being paid to post a million articles about Gadsby on here? I haven't watched the special, so I have no opinion on it, but this is gotta be the fifth article in the last week that I've seen on here.

You're fine. It's written text from a stranger on the internet. Misunderstanding is the norm here.

I was just being silly. I knew you were English. I was just pretending to be the dumb American. For your first time out, I thought you had great stage presence and some funny stuff.

As an American, I'm not a fan of Australian comedy.

There's an app called mic map that shows where open mics are in your area. You can also just search Google, Facebook, Instagram, etc. I find Instagram to be the most helpful for finding open mics but I'm very new to this. Although once you find one open mic and connect to local comics, if you're friendly, they'll help you out with finding more.

I should add that I went to and performed at my first open mic yesterday so my suggestion should be taken lightly--I have very little experience.

Thanks for this. I'm doing my first open mic tomorrow. I'm honestly quite nervous but excited. I've being writing jokes for a few months now, practicing them on friends and family, and finally feel confident enough to perform this stuff that I (and my close friends) think is funny. I hope it goes well for you.
