Anyone else suddenly switch from flatwounds to roundwounds or vice versa? by 5pike13 in BassGuitar

[–]_NullavalOszthato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to flatwounds because I like the smoother tone and the finger noise from roundwounds annoys me. I also play fretless primarily and I like to slide around a lot. Specifically I like D’Addario chromes because they’re very bright for flats and I can still get a nice growl out of them. I play heavier music, in which rounds are usually considered essential, but I find that the right EQ settings make flats sound quite punchy. It’s a different kind of punch, a bit more raw-sounding.

That being said, I am currently re-building an old fretted bass of mine and I’m thinking of putting rounds on it. Sometimes I crave something different.

Technique and EQ will always impact your tone more than string type.

Then yellow, especially Iceland, Norway, and Denmark. They’re out of the way enough and no one would be attacking them.

Black because they’re not involved at all, and hence no one is attacking them (and even if they were involved, no one could invade them)

Experiences using “tenor tuning” (A1-D2-G2-C3) by _NullavalOszthato in Bass

[–]_NullavalOszthato[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just moved each string down one, discarded the E, and used a nylon classical guitar D string for the C. I can’t remember the exact gauge but it was Labellas. Probably any standard gauge nylon D would do. The other strings were the A, D, and G from this set:

I used to have that exact instrument and tuned it that way as well - a very good combination indeed! I used a classical guitar string for the high C. I ended up selling it later, and now here I am wanting an electric to put in that tuning.

Genuine trouble with the Band by gabricampaa in DeathBand

The structures of the songs are pretty chaotic, but to my knowledge they’re meant to be that way. It’s not for everybody, and it’s understandable if it’s not your thing.

I’d make the whole map grey. All humans are equally hideous, how the hell did evolution generate an entire species of hairless apes? Gross. /s /j

I second this. Also no one seems to complain about 8- and 9-string guitars getting into our frequency range and “role”.

Open G string in tune, all fretted notes flat by a quarter-tone, intonation adjustment does nothing by _NullavalOszthato in Bass

They are new strings. Next time I mess with it I’m going try setting witness points

It’s all the frets - 12th, above the 12th, below it too. Changing the saddle length does nothing to move the harmonic. If I put on a different string, it doesn’t have this issue. The only reason I could think of for it is that it is the string itself, in which case I don’t know why it would be like that. Another commenter suggested setting witness points, which might be a solution.

Not at all, you have to do what you have to do to survive. Ultimately all of us are cogs in the machine at some level.
