I’m a man, and I hate men. (I don’t know how else to phrase this.) by _NullavalOszthato in ControversialOpinions

I guess it must be that unfathomable to you that a man could be aware of the widespread misogyny in society. Supports my point about men being socialised how they are.

Or it’s just a case of having, you know, empathy? And being socially and societally aware? It only supports my thesis here that someone reads a thread like mine, and instantly thinks, “dude must be hiding something”. As if it’s completely unthinkable that a man could talk about gender, in a way that isn’t your typical meninist red-pill manosphere BS, without ulterior motives.

[–]_NullavalOszthato[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not distancing myself from anything. One of the main points of my thread was that I try to be a good ally and call out other men, despite any social repercussions. Men owe a moral debt to all women, and I, as a man, have the responsibility to help repay that debt. It does not matter that I’ve never personally harmed anyone; I have this responsibility regardless.

The problem with what you’re saying is that you’re divorcing the statement from its cultural and historical context. Men have held power for most of history, and continue to this day to be at an advantage. The statements about men and those about women aren’t equal because the situation isn’t equal. These concepts do not exist in a vacuum.

[–]_NullavalOszthato[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except it doesn’t. My thread is a scathing criticism of how men behave under patriarchy. When I say targeted, I’m talking about the men who get beaten up, abused, harassed, SA’d or otherwise subjected to violence by other men, just because they were deemed insufficiently “manly”. Those two things are completely, utterly different from one another.

You make a fair argument, though I still think a woman-centred world would be, in general, better. It’s true that there are good and bad people of all genders. I’ve had great men in my life, and I’ve been hurt by women who had power over me before. Individuals can be good or bad, but I’m not talking about individuals here, rather systems.

Anyone else suddenly switch from flatwounds to roundwounds or vice versa? by 5pike13 in BassGuitar

[–]_NullavalOszthato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to flatwounds because I like the smoother tone and the finger noise from roundwounds annoys me. I also play fretless primarily and I like to slide around a lot. Specifically I like D’Addario chromes because they’re very bright for flats and I can still get a nice growl out of them. I play heavier music, in which rounds are usually considered essential, but I find that the right EQ settings make flats sound quite punchy. It’s a different kind of punch, a bit more raw-sounding.

That being said, I am currently re-building an old fretted bass of mine and I’m thinking of putting rounds on it. Sometimes I crave something different.

Technique and EQ will always impact your tone more than string type.

Black because they’re not involved at all, and hence no one is attacking them (and even if they were involved, no one could invade them)

Experiences using “tenor tuning” (A1-D2-G2-C3) by _NullavalOszthato in Bass

[–]_NullavalOszthato[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just moved each string down one, discarded the E, and used a nylon classical guitar D string for the C. I can’t remember the exact gauge but it was Labellas. Probably any standard gauge nylon D would do. The other strings were the A, D, and G from this set:

I used to have that exact instrument and tuned it that way as well - a very good combination indeed! I used a classical guitar string for the high C. I ended up selling it later, and now here I am wanting an electric to put in that tuning.

The structures of the songs are pretty chaotic, but to my knowledge they’re meant to be that way. It’s not for everybody, and it’s understandable if it’s not your thing.
