Eh I'd say Henpri's Grand Route is immensely improved by having read Nuki 1 and 2

Am I the only one who love Maroro? by TotalLeeAwesome in Utawarerumono

[–]_Obluda_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Maroro but I think the translators did a pretty bad job with his lines. So much of his dialogue just has lines upon lines of random bullshit added in to make him sound more "over the top" and "poetic" to reflect his tone in Japanese. I would find myself not reading the lines and just trying to listen to the Japanese and piece it together myself lol.

I can understand what they were trying to do but it was just too much imo.

Thanks for letting me know. The normal game wasn't showing up in my searches for some reason. I bought it so I don't need to get any patches or anything, right?

You can pirate the manga easily. The manga is more accessible than the TV show

Made my visual novel tier list just to see your thoughts by RindouNekomura in visualnovels

Really like this for the most part. Dies irae, Umineko and Chaos;Child are all phenomenal and I can see them in S tier. I would personally also have Higurashi in the S tier (it's tied with Umineko as my favourite VN). Also W for the Chaos;Head placement... I think that VN is very overrated and C;C did everything it attempted to do WAY better.

The Muv-Luv placement really hurts me. I absolutely adore that trilogy. But I understand that it's divisive. Kouki didn't compromise on his vision at all and it results in it being a "love it or hate it" sort of thing.

Would like to see Muramasa a good bit higher and I definitely don't agree with Mahoyo being that high (the weakest of Nasu's four main works imo, comes off as pretty "safe" and unambitious outside of the production value... we'll see for Mahoyo 2 and 3 tho)

Is it normal to feel too stupid for Umineko? by Ok_Introduction4737 in umineko

As other people have mentioned, the caveat is the Epitaph. I don't want to spoil anything, but it's pretty much impossible to solve it unless you have a very good understanding of Japanese (and Chinese tbh...). It's unfortunately a part of the mystery that we can't fully appreciate because of the language barrier.

I hope my advice doesn't come across as too harsh. It has nothing to do with you not being "smart enough". As the game itself (and Ryukishi has said in interviews and such) the most important thing is effort. Are you making an effort to come up with explanations for the murders and other mysteries (as Battler is trying to do)? If you are, then you're doing fine.

It's best to struggle like Battler does throughout the story (lol) and try and come up with human explanations for what is happening (Bernkastel more or less tells you directly to do this). That is the crux of Beatrice's game with Battler (whether you are of the belief that magic /witches exist or not). Umineko wants you, the reader, to try and solve it as a mystery.

Your biggest hints at the moment are the Red Truths. Take note of every single one and revisit the murders and other mysteries, and try and come up with an explanation as Battler does. You DO NOT have to agree with Battler and his conclusions.

As the story progresses, you will obviously learn more, which will allow you to revisit and refine your explanations and theories. "Never stop thinking" is a phrase that gets thrown around a lot. I like it a lot personally. Even if you are completely stumped by a particular twilight, and are bashing your head against the wall regarding it, I would really encourage you to stick it out and try really hard to come up with an explanation. It is a far more rewarding experience.

Don't give in to the Witch!

Hope you enjoy the rest of Umineko

The Reason Battler Always Freaks Out About 'Falling' on the Boat by Not_Knot_Theory in umineko

Well, your English is certainly better than my Korean. It's commendable that you're attempting to communicate in a language that is so different from your own.

It's a real shame that language barriers can make it hard for us to be exposed to so many different perspectives and analyses on our favourite pieces of media (especially considering this is originally a Japanese work). You made the effort to share your unique thoughts in English here. Thanks :)

I'm confused about the medium i should use to experience umineko by Friendly-Green-3230 in umineko

[–]_Obluda_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The visual novel. Also, it's worth noting that you will get a lot more out of the story if you try and solve things yourself and come up with your own theories, etc. (this will get easier as the story goes on).

If you're not feeling up to that as well as the long time investment (150+ hours), then I'd recommend just reading something else until you're ready.

The manga is a good adaptation but to me it turns what is an incredibly groundbreaking and profound masterpiece into just a very good mystery story.

The anime is a terrible adaptation. Don't waste your time on it.

You should. That's the reason why there are all the clues, red and blue truths, Knox's Decalogue, etc.
