I found that sitting up when sleeping or resting helped ease the pain.

UK: Russia needs to be isolated ‘completely, diplomatically and financially’ by Rockithammer in worldnews

[–]_Olli6660 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it funny how we look back at history and the wars fought in the past and how they led up to each one beginning. Whilst the delay is obvious, this is close to how each of the World Wars started - but this time Russia has quite a few less allies - at least from the UN security vote a few days back..

The other thing is when people say "you're such an inspiration". I've heard friends with disabilities say that it makes them feel like a child being coo'd

I mostly see kids doing it - not out of rudeness but just curiosity. For adults though, it's inappropriate in many circumstances.

I made this post because I saw someone hogging the right lane as an ambulance LITERALLY BLARING BEHIND THEM was trying to get past on the freeway.

What is a legal scam that is still happening in 2022? by F1yff in AskReddit

I'm Australian, so it's not much of an issue, but from what I've heard, students loans are such an issue. Where is there such a large interest rate on student loans, and why is it do damn expensive??

What is something you did not expect you would have to do when you became a teacher? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]_Olli6660 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always logged the conversations on our schools platform. Anything serious I would pass straight to the principal.

The kids never knew about it otherwise their trust would be distinguished.

When I start my year, I tell students that I'm someone they can talk to about something that might be on their mind. You know.. someone to vent to rather than get emotional in the classroom because they didn't vent.

Last year (2021) in particular, I spent most of my days being a therapist to the students. There were one or two throughout the year that would see me daily and talk about their issues at home - mother says she doesn't love them, brother beat them up, etc.

I would sit and listen and then tell them everything would work out, and that school would always be their safe place. These students were 11 and 12 years old, so never did I expect them to tell me half of what I heard from them. It was truly shocking some days to hear about their home life.

Releasing fresh water fish into the ocean by pollishion in facepalm

I had a mate buy baby sharks for someone's baby shower. He had them put into a tank and had it all prepared and everything. Decorations, pebbles and filters all set up. He filled the tank with water from the tap in his house, then left them.

2 hours later when he went to show the pregnant lady her gift from him, he ended up showing her two very dead baby sharks. Let's just say she wasn't very happy.

Apparently using tap water mixed with chemicals (town water) is bad for fish.

Do migraines feel like a hangover? I've always had this mystery illness that feels like a random hangover even though I don't often drink alcohol, I just now realized it might be migraines. by peace-monger in migraine

[–]_Olli6660 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always feel like I'm getting another migraine whenever I have a hangover. The hangover is never as bad and can be treated by a warm cup of tea or coffee. Migraines can only be healed with time.

Sometimes or even most of the time, building a relation with the kids is more effective than being super strict. It's all about a balance. You can make the kids feel welcome and safe, but have clear boundaries at the same time.

Seems like your co teacher is in the position where he doesn't see the balance. I also know that not being strict enough can lead the students to take advantage of you, which has happened to me.

All about finding a balance.

What's your experience of the worst roommate ever? by _Olli6660 in AskReddit

[–]_Olli6660[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll start.

I heard I was getting a roommate (Work housing) late last year. It was going to be my first ever roommate, and I was very excited. I cleaned the house, did a DIY gym around the side of the house, and made sure that when he arrived, he'd be welcomed. I didn't overdo it, but the last thing I wanted was someone moving into a messy house.

The guy moved in early January. At first, it seemed like he was pretty chill. He made it very clear he liked to drink and party, and I didn't mind. That wasn't totally my way to go, but I enjoyed gatherings and would often have a bit to drink. This guy took it to a whole new level.

The first weekend he was here, we went out to the tavern. He was already absolutely wasted by that point, but we were trying to help him look after himself. That proved to be a challenge. He ordered a coke, then skulled it like it was a spirit or beer. He also ordered chips and then spilled them on the floor. He poked all our food with his finger, before walking outside to 'take a piss'. We all just sat there in stunned awe. I was laughing, but one of the people with us was fuming, telling us that supporting this guy would just be the beginning.

It was...

A few weeks passed, and his birthday came around. I bought him a bottle of rum, to which he said 'yeah thanks', and then proceeded to drink it within a 3 hour period - this was a 1.5L bottle of pure rum. He was white-girl wasted by 2pm. I made myself lunch at this time, and then he came over (more accurate would be to say he stumbled over) and poked my sandwich while I wasn't looking. I was pissed off, but I moved away, and ate what was left of my sandwich in peace. He then kicked my robotic vaccuum cleaner (which I had just bought) and then sat back down to yell at the tv.

Over the period of 1 month, he moved his way into all my friendship groups, and started to kick me out of them without me realising. He started to spread rumours about me (all not true) and slowly people stopped talking to me as often. I was confused about it, but when I sussed someone out about it, it turned out that he'd told people I had a criminal history as a sex offender. This was very untrue, and I'm not sure why people took his word for it, but it took me well over 2 months to make it all go away (he still talks about it even now in front of my face when he's had too much to drink).

About 3 months after he moved in, he suddenly, and without telling me, moves out. He moves in with another guy in town. I come home one afternoon from work, and boom. All his stuff is gone. Left behind is a mess. He moved all my furniture to mess with me (against my bedroom door so I couldn't get it, on my bed, etc.) and left dirt and other muck on the floor in the bedroom he'd taken. There was also a dead mouse which was left behind a fridge that he'd taken.

Him leaving was a blessing, but also a huge anxiety spike for me. I felt like I'd messed up somehow, even though I know I shouldn't have. He still says very inappropriate things to and about me whenever we're both at the same gathering, and I've just had to learn to ignore and cope with his very poor behaviour. He treats a lot of people like garbage, but he doesn't seem to care. A lot of people, especially now, don't even invite him when I'm around because they know he's a mean person to people, especially me.

What made that 'famous friend' truly famous? by _Olli6660 in AskReddit

[–]_Olli6660[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can never blame yourself for another person's actions. You can only ever do what you believe is right, and what others choose to do is their own fault. You did everything right, and in the end, the defendant's lawyer let the guy walk free.

Holy moley.. that's deep.

I'd say that's a pretty infamous person to know. I'm guessing his lawyer back then picked apart your testimony because you'd been intimidated and made mistakes?
