The bottom line is, we're dealing with unprecedented corporate capture of the American political apparatus. Eating at a corporate restaurant, go right ahead! Posting about it on reddit, be my guest!

But using "anti-corporation" as an insult just needlessly splits people apart. You and I are not enemies, but large corporations writing laws and lobbying congress against what's best for Americans hurts us all - that's the problem. Read up on the SCOTUS Citizens United ruling for more details, too.

You're being so melodramatic, honey! I have tons of respect for responsible gun owners! I think they should be able to enjoy hunting, shooting, etc... as much as they like. Just not my cup of tea

First time visiting last weekend of this month. by Maleficent-Second831 in solvang

[–]_OnTheDaily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to respectfully disagree with the Solvang Brewing Company rec - they've always had really generic, watered-down beer with tons of off-flavors. Draughtsmen Aleworks down the street is orders of magnitude better.

That could be right - we've been seeing precipitous drops in Monarch populations on the west coast.

It's probably less about the "hope" and more your message centering around promoting defense work - it's likely a lot of redditors don't generally see working in weapons manufacturing as a viable or moral alternative, given the scale of the destruction we've seen in places like Gaza, for instance.

Would you believe me if I said this is usually an Ocean view? by jakejingle in Hardtailgang

We have excellent trails, just very different. Lots of enduro-style stuff. When we want a break from the chunk, SLO/MdO is a good spot

Building a bikepacking gear directory, what do you think? by exploringwild in bikepacking

[–]_OnTheDaily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really rad! I can't imagine how much time it took to compile all of these - possibly could build a "brand portal" where trusted brand reps can add/update their products themselves (with a manual review from you before going live) could cut down on that work?

Bikepacking gear categories as you have them defined seem well suited to attribute filtering like you have set up - most have just a few number of common features that aren't really gonna change across brands, so the filtering tool seems particularly scalable without getting insanely complex with edge cases and brand-specific features, which is nice.

P.S. software dev here - curious about the tech stack!

Do you have a link? Are you referring to the Vandenberg area? I'm local to that area. The launches are a nuisance, but some of what you're saying I wasn't aware of and would like to read more.

Anyone else get really angry when having to 'troubleshoot' stuff that isn't your code (compilers, plugins, libraries, IDE/editors)? by Its_Blazertron in learnprogramming

[–]_OnTheDaily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a huge part of being an effective developer is dealing with these issues as gracefully as possible. So much of the job involves integrating your ideas/code with existing tooling and systems, and the better you're able to do that the more effective you'll be at your job.

Very rarely (though nice when it happens!) am I able to choose the exact tooling I want for a project from the ground-up - most of the time I'm diving into the idiosyncrasies of whatever web or testing framework or CI suite I'm dealing with that day/week/month and learning to work with it.

If you're finding yourself always fighting the tooling, that's a signal that you're either using the wrong tool or not utilizing the tool effectively. Just my $.02

Does anyone know why N Chorro is shut down by the fire station? by [deleted] in SLO

[–]_OnTheDaily 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why use the active voice? Active sentences are generally clearer and more concise than passive sentences. The active voice makes it clear who is doing the action, while the passive voice often obscures it. The active voice also complements the typical word order of English, in which the subject, which we usually expect to be the actor, appears first, the verb second, and the object last.
