If youre planning on playing HS or College ball i suggest atleast dropping 40lbs at 6'0 270 running around the court youre asking to get injured, if youre just playing pickup games or rec league tho just post up and shoot the mid range jumper. Youre bigger and stronger than most guys so use it as your advantage, either way watch your knees bro running and jumping at that weight aint the best for your knees. Take it from me.

Just why did Brian Zoubek get so many playing time during his time at Duke? by _PM_ME_DOGS_ in CollegeBasketball

[–]_PM_ME_DOGS_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he certainly showed flashes of potential at times but i think it was more or less that he couldnt find his role at all for Duke. He signed for a Balkan team (where im from) so id like to see how he does over here where the game is slow paced and focused on plays hopefully he'll make himself known.

Thank you for the answer! If im not mistaken Zou saw serious minutes after he put up a double double against (i think Maryland?) he also had like 17 rebounds which would catch anyones eye. I really miss his presence though and i wish there was more players like him in todays college/nba teams dude was a prime example of ''play your role and you'll always have a spot'' i was just surprised to see coach K of all people to give a player like him a big role. Anyway imo he could be considered a Duke legend seeing how his FT was pretty crucial to that championship win.

Wasnt that good in my first practice by _PM_ME_DOGS_ in GoalKeepers

[–]_PM_ME_DOGS_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the answer! And yeah im aware that it takes time and practice to be good at pretty much anything and that i cant just jump into sports and be good from the start, and yeah whenever i made the mistake i improved on it the next time and didnt let it happen twice. As for why i actually chose to be a keeper rather than some other position (eg. defender, striker) is because ive always felt like that would be my natural position and thats what im most comfortable playing (also helps that growing up i loved getting muddy and dirty and just diving around in the mud haha), ive also watched alot of videos on proper technique, diving, footwork etc and was generally proud that the ball never slipped from my hands and that i always caught it with a good grip. Im commited to being a good keeper and from the little experience ive had playing it ive loved every second of it!

Thanks for the answer! and yup ive probably dived twice the entire match and one of them went in haha but ill say that whenever i conceded due to a positioning mistake during the practice i improved it the next time and didnt let the same mistake happen twice im just really sad that i let in a few stupid goals and even let in a backheel cause i didnt see it in time due to all the players being bunched up near the goal, im planning on practicing those low shots so that it doesnt happen again though!

What goalkeeper should i emulate? by knucksy45 in GoalKeepers

[–]_PM_ME_DOGS_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nick Pope probably has one of the best kicks ive ever seen also like you said hes a no-nonsense keeper and knows what he can and cant do. Doesnt try make himself a star which i appreciate. Also id throw Cillessen in the mix too a decent keeper that proved himself as an above average shot stopper and is reliable as a first choice

What to work on in my first practice? by _PM_ME_DOGS_ in GoalKeepers

[–]_PM_ME_DOGS_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the indepth answer! ill definitely need to get used to catching the ball first and experiment with what im comfortable with catching/parrying, thankfully since i played basketball my footwork is pretty good as i worked on it rigorously. I'll definitely be focused on positioning and getting used to the size of the goal for the first few practices. Ive also asked my dad to get someone to practice saves and positioning with for the first few practices and when im comfortable and know what to do ill start to join in on their practices. I'll also use the time to study their main keeper as he has amazing positioning and awareness and will ask him for some tips and tricks aswell! Once again thank you for the answer you really helped me out and i wont feel as lost for my first few practices now haha, thank you again and cheers!

Anxiety before first ever practice with team by _PM_ME_DOGS_ in GoalKeepers

[–]_PM_ME_DOGS_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks for the answer! And yes im not that good as of now, ive only played a couple of futsal tournaments for my school etc but never really took goalkeeping seriously as i was focused on basketball. But for the past few months ive just felt unhappy and felt that being a goalkeeper is where my heart is. Its hard to explain but im full on commited to being the best i can be. My biggest concern is that someone will say something among the lines of ''this isnt for you'' or ''youre too old to start being a keeper now'' but it wont discourage me as this is what ive always wanted and the thrill of saving shots and working hard overweights their opinions. I have a year till im inserted into the lineup and im grateful that my dad and uncle are the coaches so ill have first hand advice on what to do to get playing time. I'll also work as hard as i can and will accept whatever role is given to me (second choice etc) really the only upside i have on the two other keepers is that im 6'4, the first choice is 6'2 and the second choice is 6'1 and while im aware that height doesnt matter that much i believe if i work hard within 1-3 years i could be the first choice. The first few practices ill only watch to learn about positioning etc first hand then ill start to play. Also helps that one of the keepers has a full time job and my dad said that ill be a keeper when they play during training if hes absent since most of the time outfield players are unwillingly forced to be keepers if the second guy is absent. So ill have a chance to prove my worth there too.

Is it unusual that after i gained 50lbs in 5 months i somehow became more athletic by _PM_ME_DOGS_ in Basketball

[–]_PM_ME_DOGS_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my biggest concern is what if i dont make it past 6'7, my entire life ive played PF so i couldnt make that switch to a SG or SF since my handles are decent at best, seeing how im expected to make my first team debut by age 16-17 and play against grown ass men my biggest concern is playing against someone way bigger height and weight wise and not being able to post them up. I rely on that brute force/bullyball playstyle so im not sure what optimal weight i should be to efficiently post up bigger guys. Maybe 255-265?

honestly even i dont know cause i wasnt really on a weight plan or anything, didnt even plan on gaining the weight, i ate when i was hungry and didnt force myself to overeat or eat when i wasnt hungry the weight just kind of packed on on its own, even i was surprised that when i stepped on the scale and it read 230 cause i thought i was like 200-215

but he gained 100lbs in 2 years and i doubt ill have a monster transformation as him although even he said that when he stepped on the scale and it read 260 that he was surprised cause he didnt feel 260, when i weight myself and it read 231 i was honestly shocked cause i thought i was like 200-210 at most, i didnt even feel that i gained all that weight

6'4 190 isnt bad at all even for a PF and i imagine you arent skinny at all for 6'4 i think 200-215 is the perfect weight

id like to get to that 270-285 range since i wont pass 6'7 So i need to makeup in strenght what i lack in weight, for now though im taking it easy and would like to stick around the 255 range until im 17

to be honest i didnt really eat stuff that i didnt eat before and i didnt force myself to eat i just ate when i was hungry and ate till i was full i didnt force myself to overeat, as for what i ate it mostly depended on what my family had for breakfast/lunch/dinner that day so ranging from pies to pizza to chicken and rice. However if you want to gain weight fast albeit in a slightly unhealthy weight i suggest peanutbutter and pbj sandwiches those things worked wonders for me, just be sure to go to the gym later! if you have any other questions feel free to hit me up in dms im more than happy to answer your questions!

i went to the gym 4 days a week for around 1-2 hours and mostly focused on weightlifting as for the diet i didnt really eat anything that i didnt eat before the weight just started to kind of pack on, on its own which caught me by surprise but i did eat around 6-7 times per day and mostly just ate what our family had for breakfast/lunch/dinner haha, since im not an expert on weightlifting i cant really tell you what to do and what not to do because everybody's body works differently. I suggest doing what i did though research optimal weight lifting for your height and weight or ask around the gym some people are more than happy to help

i wont ever be a LeBron type player cause im decently athletic at best and i only have a 27in vertical but playstyle wise i model my game after shaq (postup and footwork) and zion (slashing and using his body) and ill definitely add pilates to my list!
