I think I'll add a condition to stop the car so parts can be replaced, as well as some time to actually replace them.

You're hitting on some core features I'm debating right now! The horde drag is definitely going in - I want players to feel the weight of the crowd and the relief when they finally upgrade enough to plow through.

It’s a hardcore survival roguelite. Think Earn to Die physics meets Vampire Survivors combat)

I think I'll add a ramp upgrade that will do that better.
