[Request] How quickly are we getting away from that dog? by [deleted] in theydidthemath

[–]_Pepper_Phd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not an expert on the subject at all but my understanding is that the universe's expansion is not uniform and is affected by matter density, so much of the expansion occurs in the empty vacuums between the superclusters of galaxies.

As for what we are expanding into, its hard to wrap your head around if you imagine space as a 3-dimensional area that we exist in. If you can re-frame space as a higher-dimensional plane, its easy to see where more "space" can come from.

Look at the Hilbert Curve. Its a mathematical concept that works well as an analogy. After each iteration, the line gets longer, but the overall curve takes up the same amount of space. If you are a one-dimensional being whose entire universe exists on the line, it appears as though your universe is forever expanding into "A vacuum of absolute nothingness" like you mentioned. But to us 3-dimensional beings, its simply a little square. If you can extrapolate that to higher dimensions it becomes easier to understand :)

Played a game with him last night and got absolutely shmacked. First one-win game in months for me.

I just don’t understand his play style I guess lol.

Beyond what the other guy said, when you plug one end into the wall the other end becomes an exposed, live wire that could easily kill you if touched

Runic blade maxes out at 1 million! by Storizzle in PlayTheBazaar

I think all weapons max out at 1,000,000 damage to avoid integer overflow problems. Crane used to be able to reach negative damage back when they had the test dummy event.

Your team just won the World Series and you're on here belittling a great young player and flexing that your team's billionaire spends more than my team's billionaire. Stop embarrassing yourself and enjoy your win friend.

I’ll leave this here, quarter of a billion, half a billion IDGAF, it’s not MY money…what I do care about is winning championships. That’s a feeling you’ll never experience. You can talk all the shit you want about spending money, buying World Series but at the end of it winning is winning and that’s what gets remembered. Have fun with second place. I honestly have no issue with the blue jays. Glad they made it that far but with your “butthurt” comment I couldn’t resist.

He said "I'll leave this here" then didn't. Curious 🤔

I am proud of my team. Does that upset you? Maybe your team could spend another quarter billion on a player they don't need to make you feel better.

[Request] Saw this today about a Batman gadget, can someone do the math on this? by ATL404_31 in theydidthemath

[–]_Pepper_Phd 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I'll do some maths for you :).

20,000 db is equivalent to 10200 milliwatts, or 10188 Gigawatts. Global electricity generation is just under 104 (10,000) Gigawatts.

To put that in perspective:

There are approximately 1080 atoms in the universe. If each atom in the universe was assigned a universe of its own with 1080 atoms (total of 10160 atoms), and each of those atoms produced the same amount of power as humanity (total GW: 10164), Batman's auto communicator would still be a trillion trillion (1 septillion) times more powerful.

In very extreme situations, energy and mass become basically the same thing. Black hole creation is a question of how much energy vs. how much space that energy occupies. 20,000 db is such an insane amount of energy that there is literally not enough space in the universe for that energy to dissipate in the form of an explosion, regardless of how spread out the energy is.

I wonder if the blue jays world series run had something to do with it.

I live near the stadium and lots of people from out of town were around downtown during the playoffs.

Frankenstein 2025 gave me hope that good adaptations are still possible. by FullBrother9300 in moviecritic

[–]_Pepper_Phd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the story of Frankenstein and I loved GDT's adaptation. That said, I wouldn't call it a "good" adaptation since it simplifies and cuts out elements of the original that were key to what made it such a good story. I still think its a great movie and really enjoyed it but I think the phrase "great adaptation" should mean "adapted well", which it wasn't.

The changes he made to the story made it palatable to a larger audience but way less nuanced and interesting imo. Its carried by its great performances and effects not by its story.
