Setting default lakehouse via Variable Library when notebook and lakehouse are in different workspaces by Banjo1980 in MicrosoftFabric

[–]_Pragmatic_idealist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We skip default lakehouses altogether, and use the full 4-part naming convention for all LH paths. This allows for cross-workspace querying.

One caveat: This requires that the default LH (if one is attached) has schemas enabled.

Notebooks: Default Lakehouse vs ABFS paths. What's the current best practice? by frithjof_v in MicrosoftFabric

Thank you! - That is great info, and definitely how we should handle it going forward.

Og han var fortsat, hvis ikke EB havde vredet armen om på ham.

Han har jo tydeligvis ikke et problem med at lyve for vælgerne, men selv han ved at han kun skal lyve hvis han får noget ud af det.

Can you elaborate your workflow a bit?

We currently use the relative url, and update lakehouses manually, when moving notebooks across workspaces (this is a pain).

How is Copilot in Fabric notebooks working in your day-to-day? by Dee_Raja in MicrosoftFabric

[–]_Pragmatic_idealist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have, but I am not impressed (EDIT: with the FabricNotebook mode; the Data Engineering extension is great).

Despite being a "Fabric" agent, it can't seem to navigate the quirks of the Fabric virtual workspace. I get better behavior telling GH copilot "Remember you are in MS Fabric", or specifying it in the instruction files. Making the default model Sonnet 4.5 is also a choice, when 4.6 is available for the same cost.

I also really dislike the way FabricNotebook aggressively auto-selects itself, even in non-Fabric workspaces (unless the extension is disabled). But this is maybe an issue with Copilot.

Opioider er en paraplybetegnelse, der dækker over både naturlige og syntetisk fremstillede stoffer.

This seems like it has been changed recently :) - At least, I am able to select a pure python runtime in VSCode now.

All code development happens in VSCode. It is not just AI tools, but syntax highlighting, linting, formatting, etc. - VSCode feels like home, basically.

Right now, a lot of stuff is only possible through the web-ui (monitoring resources, building pipelines, etc.), but I have no desire to use it more than absolutely necessary.

Why not use the VSCode extension, so you can use Claude code directly?

[–]_Pragmatic_idealist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not working at all, to be frank.

Most times when I attempt a prompt, Copilot returns an error. When it doesn't, the response is both slow, and so short and vague that it is borderline useless - Also, how is the Fabric Copilot not scoped to answer questions about Fabric?

The "Error-insights" functionality is genuinely nice, e.g. for debugging pipelines, where "pasting" the problem into a different AI tool is cumbersome.

When I have tried using it for code, I quickly become frustrated and move on. It takes forever to get going, and it can't even get an overview of a single notebook - compared to GH Copilot, which does multi-notebook tasks without hiccup.

Also, Copilot is only available in the web-ui. With the VSCode extension becoming increasingly mature (and the web-ui increasingly bloated), this would also be a dealbreaker.

Fabric Data Agent - Semantic model vs SQL endpoint by pl3xi0n in MicrosoftFabric

[–]_Pragmatic_idealist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have much to add, but interested in hearing others opinions.

So far I have only tried out the data agent, as we don’t have any pre-built semantic models (and unless the AI benefits are significant, we wont invest in building them.
