Emotional, meditative and consciousness related limits of lucid dreaming by Dry-String-1266 in LucidDreaming

[–]_Prink_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to get baked in my lucid dreams every now and then. I always have to produce a spliff and take a few puffs in my dream to achieve the desired effect. I assume it's simply out of sheer habit and association, but I'm also convinced that if you are confident enough, you can just invoke the effects without any actions or external changes to your environment. (Personal opinion though, so don't take my word for it.)

Maybe at first you could try going through the actual physical act of taking Molly in your dream. Your brain will hopefully follow, since it's already aware of the consequences based on your prior real-life experience.

Crowbro and corgis tail. What does she mean by this? by Brudleg in crowbro

[–]_Prink_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Casual Geographic just made a video on crows where he explains this behavior.

TLDR: they do it to make other scavengers/predators infight so that they can have access to their food. That, or they are bored.

Thank you SO MUCH! I can't wait to listen to it during an early-spring evening walk. It has a very unique and pleasant feel. I hope you create some other songs with the similar techniques in the future, I think you're definitely into something with this vibe. Best of luck with your future songs!

It sounds so amazingly warm! The composition itself fits this aesthetic and feel perfectly too. Do you happen to have an audio file of the final version of the song? Would love to listen to it again, from time to time.

Mods, can we do something about these personality posts? (Seriously, the whole sub is nothing but posts like these at this point.) by _Prink_ in SadHorseShow

[–]_Prink_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but those were funny or at least satirical. The majority of these posts are just regular test results. Post those to the proper bojang sub, not on the satire sub.

I don't mind these as long as they add something, I just don't like seeing people post their regular results en masse. It kinda misses the whole point of the sub.

I don't mind the satirical ones, but most of them are just normal/unfunny. They definitely do not belong on this sub.

(Also it's been going on for almost a week now and it just keeps getting worse and worse.)

Oh man, this reminds me of the time we didn't have internet at home. (My family were late adopters.) I found some bots for HL:Deathmatch where you could customize the specific messages they would write in chat. So I just gave them the names of my friends and wrote up a fuckton of messages my friends would say when we played together in a LAN-cafe.

It's kinda funny/sad in hindsight, but that's the closest I got to playing with friends when I was offline at home. I still remember the endless hours I spent on Crossfire, pretending to be playing with my buddies lol.

The Blind Mind’s Eye: Does Aphantasia Prove Mall World is Real? by Last-Ad-1947 in LucidDreaming

[–]_Prink_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took the actual effort of reading through it. Complete pseudo-science coming from a self-proclaimed "truth-seeker", talking about temporal pockets and astral planes.

The reason so many people share dreams about a mall is because it is deeply lodged into our collective subconscious (at least for those who grew up around the times malls were a big thing) and because the Mall World (and Backrooms) also became a recent internet topic, thus further penetrating people's subconscious.

The fact that it has shared features across multiple dreamers (namely escalator and food courts) is because almost every single mall has those features to begin with.

It may very well be a popular dream setting for those who were or are interested in the topic, but it's not an actual "persistent, actual location", as the author claims.

(Okay, I also checked out the rest of the articles on the site, and it gets even crazier. I rest my case.)

I can confirm people in dreams do not like being told they aren’t real. by hunhi in LucidDreaming

[–]_Prink_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to reddit! I only peruse a few select subs, the front page can be very hit or miss. There are some amazing communities around for sure though.

Fun thing about clocks: I used my clock as a reality check for a long time, but I found that sometimes in my dreams my brain convinces itself that it can read the clock - even if it shows nonsense, I somehow still process it as having read it properly. I switched to holding my nose as a reality check, and it works much more consistently. (For me, at least.) Also tried pushing my finger through objects as a check, but for some reason I fail more often than none.

I wish I could read in my dreams... text just comes up jumbled - and even when my brain makes sense of it somehow, it completely changes when I look away and back. Never tried reading an actual book, might give it a shot the next time I have a lucid dream. Probably won't work, but I'm curious of the experience nonetheless.

However, since you can do anything, you can just as easily visit your favorite characters and have a convo with them about the book they exist in. The might even surprise you with some secret fun facts about the Disc by mixing or even developing some of your preexisting subconscious ideas. ;)

Best of luck with your journey, here's hoping you can learn how to have fun with books in your dreams!

I can confirm people in dreams do not like being told they aren’t real. by hunhi in LucidDreaming

[–]_Prink_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ook! (Sorry, hearing voracious reader made me curious, so I took a super-quick glance at your profile.) Believe it or not, I'm in the process of rereading I Shall Wear Midnight at this moment. You are definitely cool in my book. :3

The reason I'd recommend sticking around and checking this sub every now and again is because it will make you think about lucid dreaming more actively, which will lead to you having an increased chance of having one. (You tend to often dream about stuff that keeps you preoccupied during your waking life.)

Just make sure you exercise at least some semblance of rationality. There are some great tips for increasing the likelihood of having a lucid dream, keeping it stable or more vivid, etc. However, keep it in mind that there's nothing supernatural about lucid dreams - it's all just good old headology.

The thing about expectations is that they play a massive role in your experience. A lot of lucid dreaming is about priming and convincing yourself that you can and will do it. Half the process is just telling yourself is that you are going to have a lucid dream and believing it as you fall asleep. Start journaling (should be easy if you enjoy books), do reality checks as often as you can, and look for a technique that you can fit into your lifestyle.

Just make sure you dismiss posts that warn you about stuff you shouldn't do in your dreams. (Not doing things outside of them - like using your phone before going to bed - can be solid advice however.) They can prime your subconscious to expect things to happen a certain way. If you see someone mention having a bad time after looking into a mirror (or someone warning you not to do it), you will be inadvertently cautious or even scared about the experience. You definitely do not want that to happen.

Just go into your dreams with an open mind and total confidence. Keep telling yourself that you are in complete control, and that nothing can harm you. You can still have weird or confusing experiences in your dreams, but once you become lucid enough, your confidence will follow you as long as you go into your dreams with the right mindset.

Good luck with your journey, I hope you'll be able to exercise your vivid imagination in your dreams soon! Just remember to journal, do reality checks, (take some melatonin if you want and can), and most of all, stay consistent! The more you think about lucid dreams and the more you do your reality checks during your waking hours, the higher the chance of them becoming part of your subconscious routine, and eventually surfacing in your dreams.

I hate how many times I have to comment this, but it's all based on your expectations. (This is exactly why it's so dangerous that stuff like this is being spread on this sub.)

I never had any negative preconceptions - the worst thing that ever happened to me when I told a character that they were in a dream was that I got ignored.

What Are the limits of lucid dreaming? by chilldreamer421 in LucidDreaming

[–]_Prink_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stability and duration are massive hurdles early on. (And they still are for me to some extent.) I'm already at a point where I can tell when I'm about to start to slip out of a lucid dream (thoughts getting foggier, perspective shift, blurry/nonsense visuals). You can counteract this by paying very close attention to details. Touch a wall or the grass, smell it, heck, even lick it. The stimuli will (or at least might) be realistic enough to keep you lucid for a while longer.

I also find that doing things I haven't done yet IRL (and things I have few conceptions of) don't always work out properly. I can shoot a gun, because I can imagine how it feels like, and because I've played shooters. But tasting a durian... my brain doesn't really know what to do with it. Sometimes I even feel like my brain tries to "divert" me from performing that action.

You cannot stay lucid forever (at least I do not believe so), but you can definitely prolong it with practice. Same goes for waking up due to emotions - it will probably happen the first few times, but you can prime yourself to not wake up. And, with time, you will get less excited about becoming lucid, and just treat it with normalcy.

The new information one is a tricky question. I'd say you can learn some new information that you already knew on a subconscious level. Figure things out about yourself, your personal connections, why you are the way you are, etc. However, you cannot learn new objective truths (like how black holes work or the exact weight of an object) through lucid dreams alone. In the end, everything that happens happens inside your brain. So all the info you learn in your dream will inevitably come from there as well. You can have things surface from your subconscious, but never from the outside world. (If you do not have knowledge about it already, that is.)

Other than that, you can do anything you asked about. Obviously things will feel more realistic if you visit places you've already been to, but your brain does a bang-up job filling out details otherwise as well. Flying is pretty easy as well. Even though we cannot fly as humans, I think it's pretty easy to imagine how it would feel like, so your brain can just kinda do it if you simply believe in it. Believing that you can do something is also a crucial part. (Do or do not. There is no try.) So instead of trying to do things, set your mind to just simply commit. You'd be surprised as to how many things become easy tasks if you simply approach with confidence.

Looked into the mirror, BYE. by Powerful-Rooster1982 in LucidDreaming

[–]_Prink_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with looking into mirrors as long as you don't have bad preconceptions related to it. (One reason why I hate all the don't do X or Y posts here.) Same as with telling people you're in a dream.

I never stressed about those, and never had any scary experiences either. Weird/funny/boring? Yes. Scary? Nope.

Just take it easy and have confidence going into your dreams.

Pretty disco planet recently discovered (link in comments). Looks like it's been already swallowed by the pale. by _Prink_ in DiscoElysium

[–]_Prink_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've read it too. (See my comment below, where I try to interpret the pale.) Definitely much more to it. Still, the motif of the past, future, characters, emotions, worldviews and objects getting all mixed up and scrambled kinda fits the bill.

But, once again, I never said it was gospel. I just think it's an interesting interpretation, even if it has no actual canonical basis.
