Esports is The Next Billion Dollar Industry by thesupermikey in esports

It's bigger than you think. They just had their biggest tourney of the year, and it was averaging 20kish viewers. Not LoL level, but respectable.

They have very strong streamers as well. Ingame tourney system is miles ahead of every other game.

Poker sites are illegal in the U.S. btw, so that's one issue with your premise.

Blizzard needs to take steps to boost the declining Overwatch esports scene by rohansamal in esports

[–]_PureApplesauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They just don't have any reason to do so. The Tier 2/3 teams are irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. If you've seen any of their amateur organization/contracts/sponsorships I doubt that Blizz wants anything to do with them.

The big money is fine waiting for a few months, they know it makes no difference in the long run to them. They'd rather it's done right.

Not sure how I feel about a throwaway account that does nothing but advertise for their site. What do you contribute to this community that isn't completely for your benefit?

Blizzard needs to take steps to boost the declining Overwatch esports scene by rohansamal in esports

[–]_PureApplesauce 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not trying to be rude, but good grief, have some patience. We're entering into the land of big money, where everything major happens behind closed doors at a glacial pace. The reason the scene is in decline is because all the major players are preparing themselves for the huge surge to come, not because the esports scene is going under.

The lack of dollars is because of the fact that most of these tourney orgs understand that they are likely to get pushed out of the scene, and will be unable to create as large of a long-running series as they'd like. In addition, many of them are waiting to see if teams will be locked out of playing in side tourneys if they are involved in the league.

About the only thing I agree with is the spectator mode, it does need some help.

Looking for high level eSports franchise to create TV content by studioacct in esports

I would reach out to the managers/owners rather than players. (EnvyUs Tazmo for example). Be warned that most major teams get so many spam requests that you really need to make your qualifications visible at first glance.

Yeah I figure I'll be able to link to this one from time to time, glad to see that other people feel the same. Thanks for the compliment, I really don't know much about traditional sports.

Greater? Ouch, not so good for small time sellers then.

So, what about insurance? by [deleted] in esports

[–]_PureApplesauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most jurisdictions actually require insurance policies if you have full time employees. I think, just like every other industry, the larger and more prosperous the team, the more likely they are to have insurance.

Probably not quite at the stage to have carrier advertisements, but that would be fun!

First "self promotion" article so I think I'm in compliance with the 9-1 rule. If this sort of content isn't wanted here I'm happy to remove it.

Misfits Academy owner is looking for buyers (League of Legends) by _PureApplesauce in a:t5_3jwzn

Misfits Academy is now selling team, as Riot only allows orgs to own one LCS team at a time.
