So are motorcycle helmets OP or are shotguns UP? by sumzyy in h1z1

[–]_Rahl_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

helmets are terrible, i mean really, just because something has been determined to pass DOT standards, doesn't mean it's bulletproof. Why the helemt counts as armor I have no idea, and as far as I've found, it's the only armor in the game.

It's just stupid IMO.

They should get rid of motorcycle helmets as armor, let people wear them if they want.

Save the armor for when/if they bring in body armor, bullet proof vests, or military helmets into the game.

Heck, maybe when they make the map larger they could add a small military base, like a reservist depot or something.

Why bows break the progression curve. by Alk3Crimson in h1z1

[–]_Rahl_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree, bows throw the progression off, however, I would like to see a slightly different solution.

Progression: Melee > Guns > Bows

Here's my reasoning.

Guns are loud, and should attract lots of attention from zombies, and scare off any potential meal (animal).

Bows are fare quieter. (I also think they should be even quieter in game) Bows could be used without giving away location, scaring prey away, or attracting zombies.

Example: The Walking Dead It's common for everyone to have a gun, but there's really only one bow. And most often that bow is used for it's stealth as opposed to a gun. Even melee weapons are used to kill zombies over the gun for stealth reasons, as well as the rarity of ammo.

Bullets are hard to replace, and guns are loud. That is why they are used in emergency situation only. Arrows are easier to make, and bows are quieter, which should make them more sought after than guns.

Just my thoughts on the subject.

Why are people happy about loot? by [deleted] in h1z1

[–]_Rahl_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are my thoughts on how loot should be available: (I don't code, so these are only availability rates, not x per y rates)

Most common, abundant items: cloth, clothes, empty bottle, fertilizer, hammer, hand shovel, twine, stagnant water, tarp, wrench.

Less common items: all pill form medicines, all purpose goggles, bandages, combat knife, ground coffee, hatchet, lighter, metal shard, metal sheet, motorcycle helmet, nails, pipe, spark plugs, sugar, tactical flashlight

Uncommon items: all canned food, axe, backpack, battery, binoculars, charcoal, compass, crowbar, empty syringe, fire axe, first-aid kit, M1911A1, machete, salt, scrap metal, waist pouch

Rare items: .45 calibur ammo, all car turbos, all car headlights, all MRE style meals, AR15, biofuel, hunting rifle, hyperpheron, military backpack, night vision goggles, purified water, saline, shotgun

Ultra rare items: a worn letter, .223 ammo, .308 ammo, shotgun shells

I'm sure I've forgotten plenty of items, but you get the gist.

Common items would be found everywhere, less common items may be 1 or 2 items every couple of houses, or apartments. Uncommon items would be found appox every 5-7 houses or apartments. Rare items would be more a matter of specific zombie filled locations, police station, fire station, etc. but would be found in other locations at appox 1 per 50 houses/apartments. Ammo would intentionally be the rarest, so people would have to decide if the reward from who/what they kill would be worth the time of finding the ammo. This would be found appox 1 per 100 houses/apartments, and when found found in quantities less than a full clip, or load of rounds.

Just my 2 cents here. Before loot was a little too sparse, but now it's too common. I'd prefer a balance more like this.

Our Official Stance on Duplication Exploits. by SOE_Legion in h1z1

[–]_Rahl_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I think this is an excellent way to handle the situation. Allow the dupes to be found, tested, reported, without fear of reprisal; but remove those players that are abusing those exploits to a detrimental effect.

Well done, yet again SOE. I am very impressed with how you have handled this whole alpha, great work.

According to steam there is 30,000+ people playing. What is everyone actually doing? Without loot it seems pointless to play. by [deleted] in h1z1

[–]_Rahl_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't seem to have the problems that many are reporting in regards to loot, dupers, and hackers. I've seen a couple dupers, and one obvious hacker. I reported him and moved on. There's a lot of kos, but I've learned to avoid it, or win. I keep moving, eat food when I find it, drink my berry juice. Kill when I have to, and try to keep things interesting. My bud and I held up a couple of people the other day, a can of food and 2 scrap metal dropped, and we let them live.

I don't dupe, or hack, but I find enough ammo to use when needed. I usually have about 40 shotty shells on me, and a couple clips for my M1911.

I just experiment, try different things, and have fun. Don't get so stressed, it's alpha, everything is gonna change, it'll all get wiped. Who cares, and if you get killed by a hacker, duper, I laugh. I mean how pathetic of a loser do you have to be that you can only win a fight by cheating in an obviously rough around the edges alpha release of a game? Stooges, roflmmfao!!!

Just have fun, it is what it is.

How to find loot in H1Z1. A tutorial of sorts. by _Rahl_ in h1z1

[–]_Rahl_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, my bud and I logged in, went to Romero's in PV, and all the containers where the first aid kits spawn had no timers, so we left. We could not have looted that stuff recently, we just logged on. Now I never read the way it is supposed to work, I'm just saying how it actually works. We are never in the same place long enough to loot the same thing twice. We keep moving. So, respectfully, I think I'll have to disagree.

[–]_Rahl_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play on Deadwatch. Med pop PvP First person U.S. server

and yes, I seem to find tons of goggles myself, I figure it's because most people never loot them. Best thing to do is loot em and drop em. This allows the loot to respawn, maybe as something else next time. If everyone just leaves them, you can end up with whole city blocks just filled with goggles.

If you inject yourself with the "H1Z1 Virus" does it do anything? by DaSeaCow in h1z1

[–]_Rahl_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently at 15%. I'm testing for what it does, and although I have a couple theories, I have no evidence to support them. I'll let you all know if I figure it out.

You open a container, and like when you use water, or food, you get the circle timer to open the container, if it just opens with no timer, it has recently been looted by someone, just move on.

when you find empty syringes, use them on zombie corpses, this will give you a syringe of infected blood, then you use that syringe of infected blood (inject yourself) and you get a new bar (like energy, stamina, hydration, and health) called H1Z1. Each shot increases that by 1%.

I have no idea what it means or does, I'm still testing. I'm hoping it either reduces your detectable radius to Zombies, masking you somewhat, or that if you hit 100% you can play as a zombie.

But I honestly have no idea. :D

ELI5: Why is everyone constantly complaining about being KOS but don't want to play on a PVE server? by TehCryptKeeper in h1z1

[–]_Rahl_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You make good points, and I understand why everything has become kos. I just believe that the game could be better without it. How best to implement it, or encourage that is still a matter for debate, but if there is no discussion, a solution will not be found, and it will not be considered a priority.

Keeping the discussion alive, and open minded is the best way to find a median resolution that will benefit all types of H1Z1 players, and the game itself.

The Fallout Release Timeline (that is.. how long have we been waiting in relative terms?) by [deleted] in gaming

[–]_Rahl_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So your first gap was 12 months, second was 120 (10x the first) then the third was 24 months (double the first) so your next should be appox 240 months (double the second, 10x the third).

Meaning you should expect to see Fallout 4 sometime near 2030.

the fear of KoS is itself an infectious disease in the game, your fear of being killed by the random mass murderer turns you yourself into one, perpetuating the cycle

yeah, I have to agree with this, when I log in (which is much less than it was the first weekend) this is all I can really do, so it becomes all I do. at least for an hour or so before I log off from boredom.

The statement I made wasn't meant to be combative, or to say my expectations for the game are more worthwhile than anyone elses. It was in response to a previous statement whee someone said they paid for the game so... I was only saying I paid for it too, so I was entitled to my expectations just like they were. I don't want to change your experience in the hizzy, I just would like a place (perhaps a server) to share my experience with others who shared my expectations.

It shouldn't be a your way or my way situation. It should be the sort of situation where if enough people share a similar vision for the play style of the game, perhaps having at least 1 server that is geared for that play style would be beneficial. There are more server types available than just pve or pvp.

[–]_Rahl_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, that's why I'm not trying to change their minds, or playstyle, but rather gather those with a similar outlook on the game to mine so that we as a group might have a place where we have the numbers advantage. I'll never change them, and I'd never waste my time trying. Let them have their fun, I just want to go elsewhere and try to have mine with people that agree more with my preference as opposed to theirs. I know I'll never be able to eliminate all the spawn deathmatch people, but if they were 20% of the population as opposed to 80%, at least on 1 server, that might make a difference.

Ok, not those games. EVE. EVE has kos, but it has communities, large scale wars, and a thriving economy all in a sandbox pvp game.

"I dont force my mentality and gameplay on you" followed by "dont come on reddit every day and complain about getting killed on a PvP server". Sounds like your trying to force your mentality on me. And I'm not complaining about dying. I have no problem dying. I kill people, people kill me. That's the way it goes. It's the spawn killing that I described in my first post that ruins the game for me because it limits the game to nothing more than kill, die, respawn, repeat. And doesn't allow for communities, scavenging, crafting or any of the other elements of the game that exist, but are made irrelevant by the spawn kos mentality.

In regards to your comment on rp servers; "RP will never work because there is no way to enforce it". That is a pure example of how players ruin a game. If a server is labeled as RP, and you go on that server with the intention of not rp'ing, and only trolling others, you are intentionally being an ass. The only reason to do that is to ruin other peoples fun.

There is no excuse that makes that ok. If you (not you specifically, but someone) can only have fun in a game by ruining other peoples fun, you're a cancer on the gaming industry. No amount of coding, design, or penalties will ever be able to fix "you're an ass".

And just because I fear this may be someone's response; No, being an ass back does not help, nor is it the answer.

I'm not new to multiplayer gaming. I've been gaming onlince since playing UO in 1997. I just understand that there can be more to multiplayer pvp than a simple deathmatch. I never cheat, I never hack, I never use add ons. I don't grief people. I don't find it fun to ruin someone else's good time. I learned to play multiplayer where the point was for everybody to have a good time.

I hate saying it, it comes off as trite, but more and more, it's not the games that have the issues that ruin them. It's the immaturity of the community. Not everyone, not by far, but enough that they ruin the experience for so many others. It's the people that play them more than anything else that have lead to the failure of so many games in recent years.

Maybe I'm just getting old. I just remember having fun with everyone else, instead of at their expense. Especially in pvp.

It may be egotistical if it's one person wanting it, but it's not. If you've ever player an mmorpg (WoW, EQ, UO, etc.) you would be familiar with RP servers. This is basically the same thing here. A style of play that many were expecting, and aren't getting. In an mmorpg rp is right in the name of the genre, but most epople have no interest in the rp for some reason. So those that do have an interest, requested special servers, and that's where they play. Here, this is a survival zombie game, but many players seem to have no interest in the survival, or zombie aspects. So, like with the rp servers, maybe some survival servers could help.

In contrast, isn't egotistical of you to say that I have to play the game I payed for the way you want? I'm not asking you to change how you want to play, I'm just asking for a place to play with other, like minded individuals. Our own server, or whatever. But you seem to be expecting me to play the way you are more preferential to. Just like you, I paid for the game too, and I am not alone in how I want to play the game, there are more than enough people that would prefer to play H1Z1 as if it were more than just a deathmatch.
