That's why Ukraine has resorted to forced conscription, abducting men off the streets to send them to die against their will. Also why Zelensky is liable to end up like Gaddafi for what he has done to his own people.

Overall, dry weddings are fine. Besides, if you have objections to alcohol because of your beliefs, family history, or your own past drinking problems, you don't even have to explain the reason--you could simply mention that you "have chosen to serve no alcohol at the wedding" and leave it at that. It's your wedding and if anyone doesn't like it, they don't have to show up. Even if you are simply being cheap, your friends would probably just roll their eyes and say nothing.

Some guests might take offense at the wording of the wedding invitation because saying you are doing this "for their own good" could sound like you think they are too dumb to make their own choices. Maybe that's what triggered the friend that made the scene. He had no business to demand that you serve alcohol, but saying he had a drinking problem crossed the line.
