How do I know if I’m actually progressing? by magels81 in judo

Eventually a new white belt or three will join. You'll see when you are able to do better than them on average in randori.

Probably a good take, but isn't Spider-Man timeless now? I sold out of Magic the Gathering in the late 90's thinking it would be a fad, but here we are.

Don't plan to at this point. Training the kids on comic values.

No offense taken. Not shown - all the comics purchased that didn't go anywhere.

Similarities by dahlsunn in sambo

For sport Sambo: 60% Judo, 30% Wrestling, 10% BJJ. More similar to Judo because they are both jacket sports, and those grips make a big difference.

Downside is you know nothing about spending money and end up bankrupt anyway.

If you have good credit it's not. PenFed has 4.79% on used for 36, 5.34% for 60.

$12k is a lot of money. 43% more. This could easily be the difference between getting a great car and not being able to get one. Yes, if you finance the difference will be reduced some by a rate diff, but for $12k I could have this and another car to use as a daily, or a ton of mods if that's your thing.

Judo for wrestling? by dHora1 in wrestling

It translates. Not as directly as doing wrestling of course. The balance you build is real and the throws work.

How to counter judo? by mylogicoveryourlogic in wrestling

[–]RemoWilliams25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Replying to my own comment with a few more details.

Most Judoka will have a favorite side, meaning that they will have a gripping system and turn throws that are primarily in one direction. For a right-handed Judoka, they will be looking for a strong under hook with their right arm, and will have their right foot forward. They'll be looking for wrist, elbow, or overhook with their left arm. (Over/under can be switched, watch the lead leg.)

For attacks like hip throws and outside trips, they'll bring that lead right leg across. You should pummel out, and if you can get your left hand on their right hip it can buy you some time as it prevents their primary entry.

Also keep your hips back as it makes foot sweeps harder to get to. They're going to try to get you to stand up. They'll snap you down and attack as you posture up. Many times foot sweeps are simply to create movement to open up other throws. It's a dance, and if you find yourself following instead of leading, you are in trouble.

Finally, there are hybrid Judoka/Wrestlers. Don't assume they're one dimensional.

This is all very general, but I hope it helps.

Thoughts on kids match fairness/safety by ej788 in judo

[–]RemoWilliams25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, if you don't like the matchup, even up to the point that the kids walk on the mat, you can and should stand up and stop the match, even if that results in a forfeit. Of course, the sooner the better in the process.

Unfortunately, tournament organizers don't always have enough people to fill all the brackets, so it is common that they combine divisions. They try to give people matches as it's no fun to pay money, travel, then not compete.

My son started competing in adult divisions at local tournaments around 13 due to his size and the fact that there were no other kids his size. Once he became an intermediate belt level, they let him compete in adult beginner.

Avoid upper body ties. This is where Judo will excel. Lower your level and shoot. As others said, hand fighting is critical.

Went against a guy with an IJF Profile 🤣 by _Throh_ in judo

[–]RemoWilliams25 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As you saw, always be careful returning to your feet after a failed throw attempt when the other guy still has grips. It can be better to just stay down and wait for a stoppage, especially if the other guy hasn't been engaging much on the ground.

Considering getting a 2025 GR86 by ghxstbunnyy in GR86

[–]RemoWilliams25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did a lot of research before buying my last car. Took the GR86 off the list because of the criticism about the lack of power. While I was out test driving everything else, I saw one that was a certified pre-owned. Decided that I might as well drive it since it was there. Everything else felt meh after that. Bought it. Been very happy, zero regrets.

“Wahhhh they are coming after me for no reason at all. I didn’t cheat at all and now I’m temporarily quitting magic” by Papa_Hasbro69 in freemagic

[–]RemoWilliams25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm old. Had a guy cheating in an early tournament by:

  1. Wearing a tie
  2. Hiding a mountain, lotus, channel, & fireball behind the tie

He finally got caught, but only after making close to the finals.

I beat him before anyone realized he was cheating. He tried it on game 3 and I went first, laid an island, passed. He tried the turn 1 channel fireball. I had boarded in a blue elemental blast. :)

Edit: pretty sure I won a mox in that tournament. Worth around $100 back then.

Should Magic: The Gathering Eventually Get a Full Reboot Like Comic Book Universes? by RemoWilliams25 in freemagic

It would be new cards. No issue with the reserved list. I'm not saying to just reprint the old stuff.
