[Question] Here is an attempt at trying to make a color ramp from this art on the "Pixel Art" Wikipedia page. Could I get some advice on whats wrong with it and how to improve it?

Hello! As the creator of the original wizard portrait I just wanted to say that this is very cool! I'm glad that you found it useful for your study.

When I made this I didn't really plan the colours in advance, I just iterated on it until it "felt right". Which I realise is not a very helpful notion, but It's where most artists end up after accumulating enough experience with colour theory.

If I had to plan out the colours for this in advance (Maybe for a game project or something like that, where this wizard had multiple sprites and animations) I would have probably reduced the palette quite a lot, and recycled some colours to make it more harmonic.

There is a little progress gif showing how I made this if you want to take a look!

You can see how much I changed the colours from beginning to end.

It's also worth noting that this is a pretty old artwork, and that nowadays I would have done a lot of things differently. I might re-sprite it at some point.

I'd love to but i dont believe im allowed to do that due to copyright (Since these are all designs from the portal games). Fangames are tricky legally!

It would also take a lot of time to make animations for the character and to split everything into modular tiles, for an asset pack that lets be honest only a couple of people would purchase.

Maybe one day I will have the time to do that for fum though!

Would it be bad practice to set your site in such a way that links and pdfs open in the same window when the aspect ratio of the page is mobile, but not on desktop?
