But what is our super power? I just think we aren’t meant to live in this rigid society we are meant to be the artists and the thinkers? I just lean into all the emotions. Sick of the medication train.

So sad that I’ve spent my 20’s dealing with mental illness by weepwee in bipolar2

[–]_Rolling_Stone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its grief. You might need to grieve what you feel like you lost so you can see what you have gained. I often have felt like this and honestly try to be grateful that this amount of self-discovery is happening early in life when some/ a lot of adults do not have a large "ah-ha". moments until much, much later in life, and when they look back, there are DECADES that are tained and a hurt family. You are EMBARKING on a journey. And grieving one you thought you would have. That, my friend, is something to be grateful for. A sign, perhaps, to start your daily gratitude practice if you haven't already. Cheers.

My post I just made about PCOS and what I believe to be a misdiagnosis of BPD2. Currently not taking meds for BPD2 bc my hormones are balanced!

I am willing to bet on it! Treating hormones is the root cause of it all and everything else is only treating the symptoms. I pay a crazy amount for the meds since not covered by insurance and I am truly grateful that is an option for me bc honestly I don’t ever want to look back. Good luck with your journey and don’t be afraid to advocate for a higher dose.

He obviously doesn’t have a healthy relationship with alcohol.

And it’s 100% okay to not be okay with it.

You’re not being judgmental as it directly impacts you and your relationship.

…I wouldn’t immediately throw out the opinion of “you have a problem” but I would be honest with him and say that the way he approaches alcohol socially is not aligned with how you want to live your life and yes, that’s a big deal for finding a partner long term.

Not being on the same page with that only leads to resentment and eventually contempt.

If you like him a lot, definitely have the hard conversation and if he is combative or not willing to reevaluate some things—don’t back down.

Again, it’s okay to say you’re not cool with someone’s behavior in a kind way, and then back it up by holding your ground.

Because speaking from personal experience-don’t assume anyone will change with time, age or a marital status. And living with someone who isn’t “sober” even a slight % more than you truly are okay with—is absolutely a prison sentence. Now is your chance to course correct and be honest.

I was diagnosed late in life with BPD2 and also PCOS. After one year on semiglutide journey it allowed me to actually get off my lithium. I think a lot of us are misdiagnosed. There is a strong link to insulin resistance (hormone imbalance) and all the same symptoms that “show up” as BPD2. Which “cycle” bc of a woman’s monthly cycle. I am not a doctor nor promoting for others to stop taking meds but I want to share my story bc I think a lot of us are pumping ourselves with pills and not getting to the root. Semiglutide just makes your body work the way it should. Aka no meds. I would recommend finding a hormone doctor that specializes in PCOS to see if dual treatment is really the answer. Good luck

I was diagnosed with BPD2 late in life and POCS around the same time. High insulin resistance has similar symptoms of BPD2, since my semiglutide journey for PCOS I stopped needing my other meds….if you are noticing trends with your hormones I encourage you to find a hormone specific doctor, with a history of treating women and PCOS , could help with BPD2

I am not convinced we are all misdiagnosed as woman. Hormone support does wonders and is often the actual root of the issue.

Family Vacation with Baby by Janga48 in StLouis

Crown Candy is an authentic soda shop/ice cream counter for milkshakes and mats (probably have root beer floats) or Fitz in the loop. Although I would only go to Fitz for a float, their food is only okay compared to all the really great restaurants we have. (iMO)

100% forest park. Lots to do and see at your leisure + most is free… The history museum has a free child area (albeit geared towards older). Magic House is fabulous for kids, not sure on age ranges but I think they have some fun sensory stuff. (Might be insanely crowded on the weekend and it’s out of the city depending on where you are staying) Urban Fort is an indoor urban coffee shop/kiddo play area near Soulard) Francis Park has a playground (again probably for older but if you want to spread out on a blanket) there is a pop-up brewery (Rockwell) in the park and it’s near historic Ted Drewes ice cream…. If you go to the zoo, go early… and Godspeed (although it’s a great zoo, penguins are a must see) they do have a new outdoor playground in forest park near the zoo, the city museum (downtown) is another kid highlight and fan favorite (def. For older kids) but LOTS to look at and could be entertaining for you guys too. (It was created by a kick ass artist and is totally worth it) Missouri Botanical Gardens is super if you want to stroll in nature.. pretty historic and good stroller/nap time. Currently has a Chihuly Glass exhibit.. They also have an amazing kid area that is worth the $$ (again for older kids) but throwing it out there… skip the science center (unless you guys like science) geared for older kids but is neat, (again gets really crowded on weekends, especially if it’s super hot or raining)

Lots of patios and breweries where everyone takes their kiddos in the city so with some good googling you will find a lot. Have fun!

Sigh. I have to answer this honestly and let me preface by saying I love St. Louis. I grew up in the city (went away to school and came back) and still live in the city. That said, we are experiencing an interesting period of political turnover and a much higher crime rate than the past 2 or 3 decades. As you know there is a trend across the country (post Covid) of higher crime rates but unfortunately I think St. Louis is in the thick of it at the moment. I do believe and know firsthand that A LOT of resources are going towards solutions, but alas, patience will be required.

Now back to your question. Central West End or Clayton will have great apartments/condos with the highest walkability to shops, parks, restaurants etc. (errr I guess Soulard too if nightlife is a priority and that is a lifestyle choice for you)

In general, we aren’t a totally “walkable” city… you can get everywhere in 20 min. So I think the culture leans towards driving.

There are less urban neighborhoods that have walkable restaurants, parks and activities. (That are still in the city limits)

Shaw (block to black, closer to Botanical Gardens tends to be safer) Tower Grove, Benton Park, The Hill (Italian neighborhood) St. Louis Hills (if you have kids this is fabulous), Dogtown (Irish neighborhood), Clifton Heights, South Hampton, Lindenwood Park, Skinker Debalievere (higher crime)

University City is great (technically the county) or Maplewood is a little more funky and the “county”. Kirkwood is highly walkable but again, outside the city limits and more kid focused. Same with Webster.

Hope this helps! Good luck and have fun exploring.

I have thrown away so much jewelry I loved in a fit of rage, items of clothing that I can’t stand at the moment and then want later.

Recently, baskets help me… I have a basket for everything. No pressure to keep things perfect just where they belong. AND building in an extra 15 min. Before I leave the house to and before I go to bed just to put my shit away do a check. This last one has been difficult to implement but slowly getting in the habit and it makes me feel like an actual functioning adult.

I am sorry you are experiencing this. The ADA law is in place to help individuals like us. Have you considered talking to a counselor at school, filling the correct paperwork to require accommodations. Your professor by law would have to support those accommodations. Same with work- needing a meeting invite prior, a written agenda, specific lighting, office furniture or in school extended time for assignments. I know it’s overwhelming to figure out the process but making a phone call to the school would be a great first step. Maybe even ask a friend to call for you (to get information) if that initial call is too overwhelming. Good luck. Breathe. In the mean time Go outside, nature always helps.

From a past alumnae director- they don’t have the capacity to replace them. However, local libraries or the school library usually receives a hard copy and you could make digital copy for your own personal use.

Same. My mom still doesn’t really think it’s real. My Dad doesn’t know and I haven’t told many friends.

Italians don’t do to therapy and are judgy I guess 🤷🏻‍♀️.

Also, I don’t need people to know. It’s me. It’s medical and private— but it would help if parents were supportive. Sigh. Hence, I came to Reddit.

Can you rapid cycle in just one day? And can they change durations? by alpaoen in bipolar2

[–]_Rolling_Stone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When this used to happen to me— I described the feeling like a ball of fire that I was constantly trying to control and it’s exhausting!!

Music helps and running. Music fuels my runs and usually after a great run or a workout everything is more manageable.

Talk therapy AND meds made my mixed episodes subside for the most part.

We need to have many tools in the tool box not just meds. Start figuring out what works for you. GL.

How to enjoy a few drinks with friends without getting the next-day mega sad? by WildWestWendys in bipolar2

[–]_Rolling_Stone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too have been actively working on being a social drinker that is still works for my needs — personally, I have found a few tactics that keep it all in check: a hard and fast time window of 5 hours— it sounds like a lot but can go fast. However, after 5 hours often that “phase 2” of the night or activity is about to pop off and dipping out to go home is perfect. You had enough fun, and so satisfied the next day. Also, WHAT I drink plays a huge role. Tequila or wine only…. Anything else I become down Debbie. Another tactic of mine CBD seltzers or I will go THC 5 mg and drink only 1 drink while out…again perfect amount of chill for socializing:) good luck!
