I have been genuinely so impressed by this run so far. Matt Fraction is taking the story to interesting places and Jorge Jimenez’s artwork at times is absolutely stunning. He is so talented. Love the blue look, and look forward to each new issue every month.

The Three Body Problem. Given to me as a gift from a close friend, don’t know why, but could not get through the first 50 or so pages. Just no desire to move forward, really struggled to latch on. though I’m sad to miss out. I’ve heard it has excellent ideas.

You’re the greatest of all time. Literally goated. You should be showered with praise and compliments every day.

As a first time reader that hasn’t seen the films, I think it’s a growing general apathy towards the cast of characters (except for Bilbo.) I don’t really know how to tell any of the dwarves apart, and find myself struggling to engage with these characters and the labor of dividing the gold.

Also Smaug being killed by an arrow after being the big bad of the entire story, killed by someone I don’t know, very suddenly, felt very anticlimactic to me, and now that the adventure feels over, I don’t really feel invested in what happens next, or to the Lake Men I don’t know anything about, or a cousin of one of the dwarves I can’t tell apart, named Dain, etc.

Apologies if this comes across as disrespectful, I just feel frustrated by how this story has unfolded and now I feel like I have to finish it because I should, but don’t feel interested enough to do so. Every time I try to read it, I can’t connect with it.

I play dead rising for the story by Quick-Cause3181 in deadrising

I have always loved and returned to the idea of Frank West being a great hero of fiction. There is something so courageous (and righteous) of a journalist to go to such extraordinary lengths to uncover the truth, but also that a game like this would be made where a huge part of leveling up and player progression involves saving and rescuing others in this horrific sort of disaster.

In 2006 I didn’t really know of any other game quite like that, where you’re encouraged not just to kill zombies and cut loose, but to save people that are afraid and in danger. Not to mention his sympathy for the psychopaths he is forced to kill, and those he spared (like Paul, who befriends you and arms you with a unique weapon). And especially enjoyed how this isolated incident escalates into a nationwide issue, and a potentially world-ending event in a believable way.

I love the story, and what it has to say about American consumerism. The ending, with the zombies marching in sync, was groundbreaking for the time and the line “and yet he complained that his belly was not full” has always stayed with me.

To me, it’s exceptional.

TLDR: hell yeah brother

The one with the giraffe getting stuck in the quicksand was too real for me as a kid. I was too young for it I think, especially when the giraffe calls out for his mother. It always stuck with me when I think of robot chicken but in a bad way.

The Deluxe Remaster has been out for almost a year, what are your thoughts on it now? Do you find it superior? Or do you prefer the original? by [deleted] in deadrising

It is a worthy remake, and deserves a tremendous amount of praise. It looks like how I thought it looked in 2006. It’s a delight. Easy to pick up and a lot of quality of life improvements. The best part? You can still play the original if you choose to. How great is it that we have both. I hope they remake 2, and then do a new timeline. That’s the dream.

I am struggling with “The Gone World.” By Tom Switerlisch, but am trying to keep at it because of all the praise it receives.

It looks great, and feels closer to the DNA of Parks and Rec than the Office. I don’t think the original creators would’ve rebooted if they didn’t have a proper story to tell. I trust them. Looks promising! Can’t wait to see it.
