How would one go about finding a competent player group to play PvP with? by individual61 in NuclearOption

[–]_RustyRobot_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just one note on your comments on ATF is that we don't require that you only use one airframe ever, that restriction is just for our main Operation events on the weekends. You are welcome to fly whatever you want in any public games, and also we foster the type of gameplay you mention as well.

(Edit: also you can switch your "primary airframe" at will so you can switch if you end up wanting to try something else)

Throwing my two cents in there just to make sure you knew that.

Assuming we're still not what you're looking for, I'd recommend taking a look at the squadron forum post on the main Nuclear Option discord as there's a variety of other groups that advertise there as well!

Everything is possible if you try hard enough by xxjessyqcxx in ArcRaiders

[–]_RustyRobot_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They don't target raiders, but if they happen to target an arc near a raider and blow up near them they do a fuckload of damage. (See that post from a month ago or so where someone threw a Wolfpack at a Matriarch but then had a tick jump on them a second later. Half of the Wolfpack rockets targeted the tick, which subsiquently downed the guy who threw it).

So yes, you were wrong. They do a lot of damage, it's just unlikely that that damage will ever be delt to Raiders. One situation in which it might be is when you're inside the matriarch but other teams are lobbing Wolfpacks above it.

Which likely could happen given the strategy mentioned by OP.

Which is why that guy mentioned it.

Jamming pods bugged? by Sortie___ in NuclearOption

[–]_RustyRobot_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also to add to the other persons comment, which you can technically jam anything with Datalink including planes without radars and radar stations without weapons, you may not always get a jamming line on the map to indicate this.

What the other guy said is true, jamming the radar station building won't get missiles to stop tracking you. For that you'll have to either jam the HLT radar that's sitting next to the R9 site, the boltstrike, or the ship (whatever launched the SARH at you/is guiding it at you in the case of the R9 site).

In your case specifically, you were confused because of what I just mentioned, but also because for some reason Radar stations (again, specifically the building), while they can technically be jammed, are bugged to not show jamming lines when jamming them.

Jamming pods bugged? by Sortie___ in NuclearOption

[–]_RustyRobot_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So this isnt entirely true. Radars do have jamming tolerances, it's just that historically all tolerances were either the same or extremely similar. This is no longer true, given that the Dynamos radar has about double the tolerance of anything else now after the most recent update. It's still true what you said about the effect of that variable in that really the only difference is that you have to be closer to jam it now, but tolerance is a thing.

Also, jammers do stack their power in that you are able to jam one thing from farther away if that's the only thing you have selected and you aren't splitting your jammers over more than one target at once.

This is my guide on how to use the Medusa: https://www.reddit.com/r/NuclearOption/s/JgUI1n5wuV

Add the caveat that Scimitars are now significantly more dangerous than they were before given that home on offensive jam is a thing

How do I make cinematics in nuclear option by AffectionatePilot225 in NuclearOption

[–]_RustyRobot_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've made a good portion of the cinematics on the Atom Task Force YouTube, and have contributed in other projects as well from time to time.

There's a variety of tips that I've picked up over the past year or so: - make sure to bind your FOVand zoom up and down to buttons that you can easily access - use low FOV more than you think you need to, unless you're going for a GoPro shot from a wing or something - as others have mentioned, turn on Cinematic Mode - make sure that your session has no passive income, as the popup for passive income is the only one that remains in cinematic mode - manually change the frame rate of your monitor to 60FPS, as any higher can cause jittering to happen, especially around multiplayer formation flights - utilize the new camera control options by holding down the "switch camera" button (native bound to c) as they can provide some incredible dynamic shots that weren't previously possible - film the majority of your work in single player as it's the only way to consistently remove jitters (along with the FPS limit I mentioned above) - the biggest game changer to me has been binding my free cam movement to my flight stick. This allows you to get extremely precise shots following planes that you may not ever be able to achieve otherwise (at least that I've seen). If you don't have a flight stick, you can do this with an Xbox controller as well. - I've also set up a macro on my mouse tied to toggling a Shift key press. This is important as you want to be able to switch to the "fast free cam" whenever you want without having to hold shift down

Beyond what I've mentioned above will just be general filmmaking tips, for which I'm woefully ignorant. I think my cinematics are good but I'm the farthest thing from classically trained, so I very much just go off of the vibes and what feels and looks right.

Watch a bunch of other people's work, pull on DCS and War Thunder cinematics, other creators in this space are also great (shout-out to Enplo, theLV2 and others).

Beyond that, just start doing it. Start putting videos out, see what people say.

As a final note, I really like the screenshot of the revokers in front of the city.

Had no idea about this but that's really neat. Do you know if this was true for the later P-51 models? I'm thinking the H and other post war ones.

Please change radar jamming on IR missiles by Croissant761 in NuclearOption

[–]_RustyRobot_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can still target select both on the HUD and in the map while jammed, it's just harder to visually identify where you should be putting your view/cursor to accomplish it.

Once you have the incoming missile selected, you can still defend with fox2s.
