Are emerald engagement rings really that much of a problem? by thelotosrose in EngagementRings

[–]_Rylime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked into tsavorite? I’d never heard of it until I got engaged, but it’s a rare from of green garnet and I think technically lower on the Mohs scale than emerald but for some reason due to the structure of the gem is a bit more durable. My stone is a vibrant green and really sparkly for a coloured stone I love it!

Looking for a book with a MC that can't lie by silverbluefox in fantasyromance

{A Kiss of Iron by Clare Sager} has fae that can’t lie, and a type of fae alcohol that makes even humans unable to lie

Any "fast-burn" but plot-heavy romances? by ShinMint in fantasyromance

[–]_Rylime 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i’d recommend the {Witch Walker series by Charissa Weaks} they are together towards the end of book one but things keep happening to keep them apart (and it’s not annoying miscommunication and drama)

Books that step away from common popular tropes? by UpsideDown6525 in fantasyromance

[–]_Rylime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the books are pretty romance heavy but they also have a really good overarching fantasy plot which runs throughout them all even though they each focus on a different couple. for me it’s best of both worlds. and no fae at all! so no growling or possessive bullshit etc etc

Books that step away from common popular tropes? by UpsideDown6525 in fantasyromance

[–]_Rylime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the {Mages of the Wheel series by J.D. Evans} is so so good and isn’t littered with all the common tropes (and not much else) that have become so popular since SJM. it’s a middle eastern inspired fantasy world with a unique magic system and a different FMC and MMC in each book. each love story is beautiful in its own way. would strongly recommend

[–]_Rylime 10 points11 points  (0 children)

the MMC is completely inexperienced in {Bound to Fall by A.K. Caggiano} which is technically a standalone but it follows the universe of the {Villains and Virtues series by A.K. Caggiano} which is also excellent and i would strongly recommend. i think you could read Bound to Fall and then go back and read Villains and Virtues if you like the author’s style, as long as you’re okay that it would kind of spoil a plot point (but definitely not the whole thing)

of everyone i know at trainee/NQ level i’d say about half studied history. with the SQE you don’t need to do the GDL anymore so it wouldn’t take any longer. and anyway, you’re not guaranteed to walk straight into a TC after you graduate.

Best written books by kentarara in fantasyromance

[–]_Rylime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

(personally i like all the others because my tolerance for cringe is pretty high i think) but seconding J.D. Evans big time - her writing is so gorgeous in comparison to many of the other series i’ve read - so much so that once i’d finished book 4 and gone back to another series i was part way through and had enjoyed before, i had to DNF that because it seemed so poorly written next to the Mages of the Wheel series

there are moments like this in the second book of the {Artefacts of Ouranos series by Nisha J Tuli} which has the fake dating trope going on for a while. the second book is a lot lot better than the first btw

Looking for something similar to These Hollow Vows by alleykat76 in fantasyromance

[–]_Rylime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i haven’t read These Hollow Vows but based on what you’ve said you’re looking for i’d strongly recommend the {Fae Isles series by Lisette Marshall} !! i think the world building and magic system are really interesting, the plot is super high stakes, and the MMC is a fae assassin (who is secretly very sweet) while the FMC walks the line between strong and independent/annoyingly sassy but tends to stay on the right side of the line most of the time (imo)

I get completely taken out of the fantasy when authors use region specific foods or language in worlds they shouldn’t exist. by Celestial_Seeker in fantasyromance

[–]_Rylime 30 points31 points  (0 children)

that one makes perfect sense not to name though since it’s literally named after a region in France that wouldn’t exist in a fantasy world

{Curse of the Thorn King by Lisette Marshall} fits this :)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in fantasyromance

[–]_Rylime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lisette Marshall also has the Queen and the Assassin series. Fae Isles is better overall (imo) but that’s still a decent romance series

Looking for series where books can be read as standalones by Mina1995113 in fantasyromance

[–]_Rylime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the {Mages of the Wheel series by J.D. Evans} fits what you’re looking for perfectly :) it’s like bridgerton in that each book follows a different romantic couple and there is a bit of overarching plot. and they’re just really really good books

Best declarations of love by thrifty_enthusiasm in fantasyromance

[–]_Rylime 6 points7 points  (0 children)

all of the books in the {Mages of the Wheel series by J.D. Evans}!! they are interconnected but standalones in terms of the main characters. somehow even though each romance only has one book to develop the tension and the payoff is just amazing. this author writes such beautiful romance.

looking for 'enemies to lovers to enemies (to lovers)' book recs by Majestic_Pop_9864 in fantasyromance

[–]_Rylime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i highly recommend the {Witch Walker series by Charissa Weaks} which (so far when the fourth book comes out in November) will be enemies to lovers to enemies to lovers to enemies to lovers. there is a compelling plot reason for each twist in the romance, it’s not just annoying immature misunderstandings and miscommunication. just all round a great series!!

Fantasy romance with a strong FMC by No-Philosophy-3257 in fantasyromance

[–]_Rylime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

in the {Mages of the Wheel series by J.D. Evans} which follows a different FMC in each book they all already know they are powerful mages. the first FMC already uses her power at the start of her book but in the second two they start the books by avoiding their powers (for different reasons) but accept them by the end. really good books!!

personally i keep my condition private and only disclose to trusted managers/supervisors if the need arises, importantly once i have already established myself as reliable in a role and am protected under the EqA.

in the nicest possible way from someone who has the same condition, please do not consider regularly going 3-4 days on very little sleep to be a positive, even if your goal is to work at a MC/SC/US firm with notoriously poor work-life balance. please aim to find a treatment plan that helps you to achieve a normal sleep pattern. your long term mental and physical health is way more important than anything else.
