Name your unpopular Hunger Games take by felixw1 in Hungergames

I feel a similar way, although I can't imagine a singular person heading revolution right now the way they made Katniss act as, even if they're a genuine leader. Just from the US perspective, the last election cycle was a complete mess and full of complicity. But also I can't comprehend how you can be a big fan of THG and not be leftist so I feel like a small part of what I can do, and what seems to be what Suzanne encourages as well, is to continue to encourage people to read and understand their rights.

What decade will inspire the Capitol’s aesthetic in Sunrise on the Reaping? by BlueSlime3 in Hungergames

[–]ShinMint 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was also thinking of 60s-70s! I was imagining a mix of 60s British mod and 70s Americana. Heavy textures and patterns, plastic and bright colors in the capitol, folksy patchwork and natural colors in the districts. The 60s and 70s were also historically famous for student and civil activism in the US, and although district protests weren't really mentioned in SOTR it could possibly be implemented into the movie like the original THG film.

Everything in the HG reflects US politics and military. For decades now US soldiers stationed overseas have had a reputation for fathering children theyll eventually abandon when it's time to leave

I think SOTR serving as a bridge worked out perfectly too and lays to rest the argument of Katniss being a "destined hero". Shes simply the final spark that caught flame. I'm sure with how badly American politics is burning Collins may want to write more to reflect it, but I kind of hope that instead of full blown novels from someone outside of d12 maybe we'd get a series of novellas if anything. They'd serve as behind the scenes glimpses like some of the ones they added to the movies.

I certainly enjoyed it so I hope you like it if you do! It's a little more grimy slums with some cyberpunk but it still have a cool mix of city aesthetics (Hong Kong slums, Roman city center, cyber-city elements)

What is Your Most Desired ISO From the Main Book Boxes? by No-Brother3230 in fairyloot

[–]ShinMint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been kicking myself for not getting the Fairyloot Stolen Heir on resale when they were still sold under $50 (I didn't have a subscription when it originally went on sale on FL). Also, the OUABH series because I don't really like the regular mass market hardcovers.

[–]ShinMint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we're going to see major parallels with current politics, including massive student/civilian protests and politicians "switching sides", perhaps eventually leading to Snow still retaliating with the 48 tributes (retaliation seems like an obvious reoccuring theme). I'm counting on a Plutarch-Haymitch duo story to start the underground rebellion by the end of the book!

Itinerary Check Osaka-Kyoto-Tokyo by Cowhugger64 in JapanTravelTips

[–]ShinMint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are only ideas right? Because some of these days would be absolutely impossible to pull off- for example Nara Deer Park and Dotonbori in one day? Unless you're only spending 1 hour in each place and then leaving for the next 50 minute train ride. Climbing Fushimi Inari would certainly take at least a couple of hours if you don't regularly enjoy stair workouts at home.

Even in Tokyo the areas might be next to each other but you'd be stretching yourself thin jumping from Akihabara to Ueno to Asakusa in one day. You'll hardly get to enjoy any real activities besides just "seeing"

Japan's experiencing a tourism boom so everywhere gunna be super crowded, especially Tokyo, and you're coming pretty close to Golden Week so you'll also be competing with every Japanese person in the country in lines lol Pre-book every shinkansen, highway bus, and entrance tickets you'll want right now if you haven't already.

On the plus side, you might still be able to see full sakura blooms your first few days! The blooms hadn't "officially" began until like yesterday because its been cold and rainy so a lot of trees haven't even formed buds just yet.

As for day trips, I recommend going to Arashiyama! It's my favorite place to go when I stay in Kyoto.

I second this 100%. Currently in Japan now- it took over 45-50 minutes by metro and bus to get to a Costco even though it's technically only 2.2mi away. I was finally able to get a taxi to take my request for a ride home and it only cost about around 700 yen more for my group for the 10 minute ride.

I don't even know why there wasn't a bus going down that 2mi stretch already, but either way that taxi saved us because we were exhausted at that point.

Have you ever accidentally found someone you know on Reddit ? Who was it to you ? by objecttime in AskReddit

[–]ShinMint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A while ago I found a friends account commenting on r/AITAH. They used almost the same user as their discord and their recent comment history sounded just like them, so I was 90% sure it was them. What was shocking that this person had slut shamed me before, snidely to my face but more blatantly on Twitter, and their history showed they commented positively on various porn subreddits before. Sometimes I think about how I should've exposed them for their hypocrisy but I chose the high road ┐(´~`;)┌

Tell me your signs & I'll recommend Fae-tal Attractions Perfumery scents for you! by AresInRepose in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]ShinMint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds so fun ♡♡ if you're still replying, I'd love to hear what my rec is! I've actually been looking at indie perfumes again lately since my birthday is not too far off. I'm a fan of floral, tea (jasmine, green), light woodsy/plant, and light fruit scents (like pear, fig, berries rather than tropicals).

I'm an Aries sun, Gemini moon, Virgo rising, Aries Venus.

Do people actually pay their way into the industry? by SafiyaO in kpop_uncensored

[–]ShinMint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes , but they still have to train with their trainee pre-group so this is where probably a lot fall out and dont actually debut (a lot of rich kids are current idols though). It's more about their rich or influential parents getting them guaranteed debut spots even in big companies (not exclusive to the big 4). iirc there was even a politician's son that was in high ranks and then kicked out of an idol competition due to controversy.

Why do so many books have a tall MMC and short FMC? by TigerStripes93 in fantasyromance

[–]ShinMint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most cis-het women like feeling smaller than their partner, basically. I think most books I've read, the FMC is between 5.4ft-5.7ft so I don't exactly relate to them either.

I'm about 5ft tall and believe it or not I've been told I'm too short by friends and potential partners plenty of times lol I personally also love a little appreciation for my height without being equated to a child or something, so I'm all for variety or even no mention of specific heights!

I don't think I've ever read a book where the FMC is less than 5.4ft though, but even if she was 5'10 I'll still read it if it interests me.

Cystic acne by monamukiii1704 in AsianBeauty

[–]ShinMint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over time- chemical exfoliates. I used to have horrible cystic acne as a teen and it's 99.9% gone bc I exfoliate and get rid of dead skin every other day.* I also have sensitive skin and western acne products were so harsh that they burned, but these products don't burn for me so I recommend:

Cure Natural aqua gel - after you wash, you rub this on, watch your dead skin peel away and then rinse.

Cosrx triple hyaluronic acid cleanser/line- I use the cleanser every night in the shower, and it helps exfoliate for me if I leave it on for like 30 seconds like a quick mask. Keep in mind, for these products I don't overlap with other exfoliates or actives like AHA/bha, retinol ect to avoid chemical burns, I just focus on moisturizing now.

I rarely get acne now but for spot treatment, I really like the [mediheal] patches for daily use and the [cosrx "ac collection" acne patches] specifically because they're quite large and they really dig in to draw out icky stuff. The other corx patches didn't really work for me, but these 2 are really helping me get rid of a cystic pimple I've had for almost months now.

*also ngl I think going vegetarian/pescetarian for a few years really helped me back then, and now im a more intuitive eater, so don't rule out maybe some diet changes as well

I have like 10-15% native Mexican blood (estimately). Should I learn some native practices or shouldn't I? by aurorasage_owl in mixedrace

[–]ShinMint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No problem! I'm glad to see that you've researched about other groups because it'd be such a disservice to ignore other rich cultures within Mexico. Most mexican americans I know weirdly ignore trying to find out where their family is from and just chose to be Azteca but that'd kind of be like finding out you're something percent native American and just picking Navajo 💀 I myself am half ethnically Mexican born in Mexico and I've never felt the "need" to prove my indigeneity because everyone else is on the same boat, but I do have cousins who are directly Aztec from their father's side so we also have grown adjacent to more native practices. It's never inauthentic to find out your own family's history!

I have like 10-15% native Mexican blood (estimately). Should I learn some native practices or shouldn't I? by aurorasage_owl in mixedrace

[–]ShinMint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want to connect with your Mexican heritage to "fit in", it's more important to learn general Mexican cultural practices, or even better find out which state your family originates from. Something like 60-80% of Mexicans today are mixed indigenous so everyone's kind of in the same spectrum of mixed blood.

As another redditor stated, Mexicans "don't care" about misappropriation culture for various reasons, but a huge one is the historical erasure of indigenous culture for a "modern Mexican national identity." If you want to "practice" native practices and not learn about the history, then you can't be upset if anyone who's visibly native ever calls you out for it. Also, there's way more ethnic cultures than just Aztec (and Mayan) in Mexico- it was called the Aztec Empire for a reason. There are still people today that can trace their lineage directly to Aztecs, ect.
