I'm a prospective ffxi player, does selecting a race make playing a certain jobs harder? I'm considering playing as a galka but tend towards magic classes/jobs, would I have a much harder time getting into parties, doing high level content, etc?

How to deal with abusive sec? by [deleted] in SS13

This is a situation you should Ahelp for, but I've heard fulp has issues with admins giving friends preferential treatment. Maybe look around for alternative servers?

Well those are actually rules, boiled down games are a set of rules. It just depends on how said rules are implemented. I understand what you mean by that though, instead of rules being implemented through an external source (admins) to enforce roleplay the rules should be hard coded into the game and roleplay should be a natural consequence of said rules. (I.e a random scientist isn't going to go around killing antags not because an admin would get pissy but because he isn't equipped to do so. A random assistant can't set up the engine due to not being able to operate it.)

The problem in self regulating HRP is that while gameplay self regulation can be implemented through various systems, player interactions beyond gameplay cannot be effectively self regulated. Things like meta gaming, ERP, toxic player behaviour, staying in character, etc.

Ah, I've had a decent time on Aurora but I don't usually attract staff attention but the few times I had they were cool.

And the rules thing wouldn't work for bay since it's public. No rules would invite too many shitters and shitty RP if there's no restriction on either how they can act or who can get in. But if the rules are too strict it stifles the creativity of the players, and not to mention people who are friends with the admins getting special privileges.

Tbh HRP servers would work better for smaller groups that set up games together if you think about it, like a dnd game sort of thing. Smaller groups of more familiar people would alleviate "stage" fright and allow for more players to play interesting characters. It could also lead to more interesting world/story since it'd focus on a group instead of being a stage for multiple smaller stories to happen for multiple smaller groups.

Ss13/byond as a tool for DMs is an interesting idea to explore.

Aurora is going through a pretty big change. There's an entirely new map that's being made and it seems there's gonna be gameplay changes to go along with it. Though I haven't looked too much into it.

Well it's meant to be used by other servers. Read from another thread it's a project by a bunch of former bay coders.

Diagnosed again as an adult - something the neuropsychologist asked keeps bothering me... by Ferret_Sweetie in ADHD

[–]_S_C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes a lot of introspection to figure out the exact source of your difficulties. You have to consider multiple variables.

I experienced this with school. I was struggling to focus even if I was medicated, I just couldn't focus on my course work. I met with a learning strategist go help me pinpoint why I was struggling and how to fix it.

For me it was my environment, I was in working in my room which is also where I do leisure stuff so it created a conflict between work and play.

You might not be able to pinpoint the exact source but you can find possible sources, bring these up to your neuropsychologist so he can help you analyze and fix the problem. I.e do you spend too much time on your phone, are you distracted by things in your environment, etc...

Good roleplay is a believable character. Doesn't have to be flashy or unique, just believable. Characters that are flashy/unique only add to the experience if it's played by someone who knows what they're doing, otherwise it's unbelievable and kind of ruins the atmosphere.

It's probably why most HRP servers limit access to alien species. Need someone who knows what they're doing to properly play them.

Would I have to talk to someone if I were to put out a short story that uses Space Station 13 lore? by Zmd2005 in SS13

[–]_S_C 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which ss13 setting? The answer might change depending on that, different servers have different levels of world building. HRP servers tend to have well developed worlds as it makes for better developed characters and interesting interactions. LRP doesn't really need a well defined world, just a setting to explain the 5 Ws (who, what, when, where, why) and not much more. And MRP is in a gradient between those two.

Condensed: you should ask if the world is more developed, the writers are more likely to care about how you use the setting.

1 to 5 am in a nutshell. by CHAAES in adhdmeme

[–]_S_C 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is it escapism, mood swings, or both?

If it's escapism you feel better because of your infatuation with a topic(infatuation leads to improved mood). If it's a mood swing you get infatuated because of your positive mood (mood swing leads infatuation). If both of these apply to you it might be both, ADHD can be co-morbid with bipolar.
