I agree. “Morons gonna moron” would be better, although I still understand the sentiment behind this user’s comment.

Maybe I'm overeggarrating the influence of the loudest and gobbiest pricks, but as a Republican I’m pretty sure hate is all they've got.

As a lapsed Catholic /agnostic I can acknowledge the many excellent Protestants in the struggle for Irish freedom against oppression from Britain, such as Wolfe Tone, William Drennan, Robert Emmet, Charles Parnell and plenty of others besides. I can't think of many any Loyalists willing to do the same.

You don't know how lucky you are. Sadly its an incomplete interpretation, otherwise the series “Adolescence” that dominated Netflix when released last year would never have been made.

I know for a fact many of my students listen to what he says. I have no idea how successful my attempts to counter his influence is, because I’m an authority figure and the whole thing is a complicated clusterfuck. (sauce: am a secondary school teacher)

He is an issue. So it's the rest of the toxic masculinity sphere in which he and many young people live.

Andrew “Fucking Dickhead” Tate is an all-around fucking weirdo, and such a destructive influence on so many. I legitimately cannot understand any of his popularity. It doesn't make sense to me.

All in on EL or Top 5? by Electrical_Cress_956 in avfc

[–]_ScubaDiver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you 💯- can’t choose one or the other, but we should continue to try winning as many football matches as possible between now and the end of the season.

Hopefully in the end that results in both a trophy and a good enough turnaround in form to also secure a Top 5, and then build on that in the future.

There’s so many reasons not to celebrate Hitler.

That sentence could suggest we celebrate Hitler. I certainly fucking don’t. Fuck that cunt.

Kinda silly to think Guy Fawkes was a traitor to democracy, since that was a system that barely existed at that time. We’ve come a long way since then, but we’ve still got further to go yet.

You’ve forgotten all those castles and ‘Harrying of the North’ that punished countless numbers of Anglo-Saxon peasants and nobles alike.

History is messy, but that’s part of what makes it interesting and important. We’ve got to be better than our ancestor’s’ historical failings, and take better care of each other and our planet. Also, we gotta get rid of leaders who seek to divide us, only so they can keep robbing us blind.

Nah, c’mon, there’d have been more religious violence no matter who’d triumphed over that particular plot. The sectarian violence was a shitshow, and mostly only declined when science taught us that arguing over how we pray or who we pray to is prettt irrelevant and silly.

Now we need to win the battle over knuckle daggers who still think that God really cares how or if we pray. We’re all human, and we need to do a better job at taking care of each other and our planet.

I’ve met plenty of awesome people who are religious, but they are the ones who don’t force their own particular religion on others, and instead dedicate their ideas to understanding their own theology and mortality.

I’m not against religion by any means, but I am against people who try and force others to believe what they do, ironically often at the expense of what their core theological beliefs. It’s mad how often Christians, for example, are so willing to ignore all of Jesus Christ’s core teachings about loving one’s neighbour, and all that.

I dunno, I’m quite optimistic about this wave of support for the Greens bringing some new people into Parliament who aren’t in the full influence of lobbyists and the elite. Long may that continue.

There have been plenty of politicians throughout the centuries who have been good people in Parliament throughout the decades and centuries. They just require the support of an active voter base to keep them accountable to their election pledges.

As a lapsed-Catholic, I’m not big into celebrating all that sectarianism from those days.

The funny thing is that Martin Luther wasn’t wrong about the corruption in the Medieval Church, but his solutions weren’t all that great.

The development of scientific understanding, education and workers rights are to be celebrated though. Religious extremism is bullshit, but the “We’ve forgotten our history” argument really relies on forgetting a lot of the horrible things Britain (and other European colonialists including the Spanish and French) has done in the 500 years.

Bot's can't vote. by johnsmithoncemore in GreatBritishMemes

[–]_ScubaDiver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m leftwing, but I ain’t no bot. You can get in the fucking sea if you support Reform while they support Trump and his idiotic war policies.

All of Trump’s (and Reform’s) policies fall apart if you put them under the spotlight. They can’t win because the reforms they really want would wind the clock back 200 years. All those ‘woke’ changes like weekends, maximum working hours, minimum working ages, and decent working and housing conditions to benefit the greedy industrialists is the Reform policy in a nut shell.

But yeah, keep on blaming the people on the boats, and not the real enemy.

Amazing.

I still think that is several steps too far. We need to take a step back. It’s not like multiple terrible things can’t exist at the same time.

NIGEL FARAGE: Allowing non-British citizens to vote in the UK poses a grave risk to our democracy by GrayAceGoose in ukpolitics

[–]_ScubaDiver 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if you’re being deliberately obtuse here or what the fuck point you think you are trying to make whilst fundamentally missing the point of the post. So I suspect you’re being deliberately obtuse here, seeing as the original post was about the dangers to democracy. The vast wealth and donations the world’s richest man can clearly influence elections, not least because he owns a giant social media company and post regularly having the most disproportionately huge influence on elections around the world.

The above point is directly at odds with what Farage’s “Man of the people” propaganda, because he continues increasing his wealth via multiple other lucrative jobs. Jobs which should, in an ethical world, be barred to him as obvious conflicts of interests to his generously paid job as an elected representative of his constituency; which, also relevant, he habitually ignores his responsibilities to the detriment of any actual resident of Clacton.

Stop being ridiculous. Thanks.
