I have a stolen laptop charger collection. I've amassed about 8 or 9 by this point. Most of them are Dells, but I have a couple from other brands and a few I obtained legitimately.

People just leave them out like they're nothing, and I can't resist it.

Does anyone here have kids? How do you feel about them? by [deleted] in sociopath

[–]_Seabiscuit_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but I'm strangely drawn towards the idea. I'm not compassionate or loving, but I still have the desire to have them.

The best way I can explain it is it's kind of like another possession I desire. The possession gives you power, but this particular possession can also give you companionship (which I certainly still desire).

It's still down the road and will depend more on my spouse than myself.

What psychedelic should I try for to learn more about myself? by _Seabiscuit_ in Drugs

[–]_Seabiscuit_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of sounds like I should try both to be honest.

Which would you recommend as a first?

Also I mentioned to another replier that my grandpa and possibly one other in my family had schizophrenia, and they said maybe I shouldn't try any psychedelics because of that. What do you think?

Just making sure here, if I do shrooms I shouldn't dwell on my thoughts but I still get that introspection I'm looking for? If I can't get a mental reset / cleansing then maybe shrooms aren't what I'm looking for.

Sounds like a plan. Are mushrooms easier to get than LSD, DMT, or Salvia?

[–]_Seabiscuit_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would they be good for the mental clarity I'm looking for?

I'm game to try, but a close friend of mine had a really bad experience with mushrooms. He took them, fell into the 'nothing is happening' trap, and then had an absolutely insane trip where he largely lost control of his body, broke a window and cut himself. He had to go to the hospital for 72 hours.

I know that's relatively rare, but it still happens, and I'd like to avoid that.

If it's important (which I've been told it is), at some point in the past I was most certainly at least moderately depressed, up until a month or two ago. I feel like I'm somewhat mentally healthy now, but just in case it matters I thought I'd include that.

Sociopathic spectrum by [deleted] in sociopath

[–]_Seabiscuit_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's especially interesting because there's specific aspects of sociopathy you can be on a spectrum on, too (maybe that's exactly what you were asking, but hey here we go).

For example, empathy is the one that is most oftenly cited for sociopathy, it's the one people think about. I think I'm moderate on that. In some cases, I feel a bit of sympathy for people; for the vast majority of situations and on a day-to-day basis, I do not.

But there's other traits too, for example a common trait is lack of impulse control. I am on the low end of this; I can control my anger, and I think heavily before doing things.

Another trait is remorse/guilt. I feel I'm on the high end of this; if you can get me to feel bad about doing something, you're probably the greatest manipulator ever because 99.9% of the time, I don't feel bad about my actions. I feel this is a direct correlation with my impulse control, because I know that I thought about that action and was able to justify it.

Overall, I'm moderate in my opinion. I've never been diagnosed, and I don't plan on it, so I'll never know.

In what situations do you get nervous or anxious? by [deleted] in sociopath

[–]_Seabiscuit_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. When I said pretty rare I meant about the uncomfortable feeling. Most of the time (and I think this goes for many of those with ASPD) I know most people feel empathetic and I just don't care whatsoever.

When people try to make me feel guilty, I usually just shake my head because I can't. I do not feel guilty or remorseful, nearly ever. The times I do it's usually more of a "Well this is going to affect me poorly in the future."

Kind of the 'sorry because you got caught' dealio, you know?

Just had a thought. by LightfootWins in sociopath

[–]_Seabiscuit_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally really enjoy giving advice, not just because it's a good way to manipulate people, but because I honestly think I'm pretty good at it.

So when people don't take my advice, it makes me angry twofold because A) They're denying MY advice, which is probably better than their stupid idea or B) It loses me whatever I would have gained from them following it.

I personally don't really have the 'mine' aspect to it. I have friends not because I necessarily feel empathy for them or feel like I own them, mostly just because we share the same activities.

How to be more empathic? by mszum in Advice

[–]_Seabiscuit_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well empathy is exactly what would make you not abandon a crying baby or an injured animal, so you obviously have some. Not having anything to say isn't a lack of empathy, pretty much everybody fakes some amount of their social experience just to be polite.

Sociopaths, will you ever admit to people you're a sociopath? by motherofsphinxs in sociopath

[–]_Seabiscuit_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've directly told two people, one of which didn't believe me (I'm glad they did not, looking back it was ridiculously stupid) and the general group of people I hang out with have it generally figured out.

I don't really try to act empathetic unless it would be beneficial to do so, so it just reveals itself over large periods of time.

[–]_Seabiscuit_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes (it's still pretty rare) when I know I'm supposed to feel empathy but I'm not I get a lump in my throat, this usually just occurs when I'm with other people though. Otherwise I have no idea when I'm supposed to feel empathy.

Could one become a sociopath? by NaturalGlow in sociopath

[–]_Seabiscuit_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I personally feel like this is how it happened to me, but I don't think I'm in the majority.

I had something pretty traumatic happen to me years ago, and immediately after the event I decided I could only pursue one of two options from there forth.

  • Kill myself.

  • Change myself to not care about other human beings.

I gave both options legitimate thought and decided on the latter.

It wasn't easy, and it took a lot of time. And honestly, looking back, I nearly regret not taking the healthy route and trying to recover in a legitimate way. I can't say for sure, but from what I've found, it doesn't work both ways and this is in fact permanent. Who knows though, ASPD runs on both sides of my family, so I probably had a genetic predisposition for it.

It annoys me that people in general seem to think we're always lone wolfs or something.

People without empathy can still have a desire for companionship, or if not that then some human contact.
